MetSox is right, there are good calories (chicken, turkey, vegetables, etc) and bad calories (basically any thing with processed sugar). Just because you are eating, doesnt mean it's going to aide you.

obviously there are good calories and bad calories and it is obviously better to eat 7000 good instead of 7000 bad. Do that if you can. Unfortunately, most people looking to gain cant afford to do it clean b/c that much clean food is expensive.......not to mention the amount you would need to eat. Pretty much every powerlifter/strongman eats fatty pork products as a staple of their diet and advises novices and "hardgainer" to eat everything they can to get the required calories. All in all, if you get advice from most pro lifter they will tell you getting 4000 calories from crap food (not necessarily ben and jerrys-that was somewhat of a joke-but KFC and stuff) is better than getting 3,000 cals of clean food for getting strong and big........thats just the way it is.......and in every well respected plan (5x5, Starting Strength, Squats n Milk, WS4SB, etc) it says something to that effect in the diet portion. All I am doing is telling what the pros say and they are much stronger and bigger than anyone here so you can take it up with them if you want.
Now, if you care about aesthetics and bodybuilding stuff, then you obviously need to clean it up or have cutting period intertwined with bulking periods, but for getting strong more calories is almost always the better option.

Again, just to reiterate......the cleaner the better, but calories come before cleanliness of diet when bulking.

And recommending one eat a ton of junk that will only lead to an unhealthy lifestyle, when it is very apparent he will not gain weight regardless of what he consumes, is not a very smart thing to do.

I was really reminded of this thread last night. A couple of my friends and I decided to order this ridiculously large pizza. It was a 30" freaking pizza. I've never seen a pizza box anywhere near that big in my life, I had to put it in my trunk to get it back to the house. They cut the pieces up into squares, so there were easily 50-60 total pieces.
Some of my friends got bread/salads so there was plenty of pizza eating for me to do. I was partially inspired by Rob's exploits, I didnt count pieces but I without a doubt had 20 (some werent very big). I could have ate more if it were competitive or had gambling been involved, but I didn't really want any more of it.
I went to their website but unfortunately they didn't have any pictures of this beast, I wish I would have taken a pic of the box or something.

When I still lived in El Paso, my roommates and I would go to Fuddruckers and get the 1lb burger. If you could finish everything you got your picture on the wall and a free shot glass. We had about 30 fuddruckers shot glasses by the end of the year.
THen we would go get wings from Applebees every thursday since they were half price. One of my buddies finished 40 wings(boneless) and 5 beers. It was one of the most amazing displays of eating I have ever seen.

That's so easy, no wonder you had so many. I wish it were like that here.
