That's a bad deal man. An 84? Isn't it rusted out by now?

my dad used to have a '79 camaro
sold it; said he still wishes he had it
my mom wanted to buy my great grandpas 1964 1/2 mustang, but my dad said no; i've seen pics of it....very nice car
he loved el caminos; at one point had like 4-5 of them; before he died, he bought one off a friend who won it in a poker game; dude didnt have the money to pay, but had an el camino, and the winner took it cuz he said he knew someone who would buy it

OK first off, its a Camaro... a instead of e:D...
Well you might be paying a little much, how much did she ask for it, did you haggle at all? The reason I ask is because if she was asking 3,500, she was probably only expecting to get 3K...
80,000 miles isn't bad at all for a 25 year old car, the average car gets 10-12 thousand miles per year, this one had just over 3 thousand.
Well if the engine is in good shape, and the body is good, and the interior is nice, the one major thing I'd check up on is the transmission. Those things are a ***** to have repairs done, they cost a lot, and even if you can do it yourself it really sucks.
Well the good thing is you have some time to test it out. Just listen to it while you drive, and if anything sounds funny, just ask.
Personally, I would've had a starting offer around 2200 and haggled the price a bit if they were asking 3,500. If you haggled them down to 3,500, what was the asking price originally. Because my dad and grandfather taught me that some people just will be crazy when it comes to selling cars, and if the original asking price is too high, don't even try, it isn't worth it, haha...
Basically I'd check out the transmission and just listen to it as you drive, as well as the rest of the car. But if the transmission goes, yo either just wasted $3,500 or your $3,500 car just turned into a $4,250+ car...

since we are on this type of topic, does anyone know how much some of these old school Mustangs would cost in Toronto or in general? 1964 mustang is the car I was looking at.

Is it a 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder? Either way it's a dog for horsepower (but depends on what you're used to I guess), will still do sweet burnouts haha. Not sure where you live but those cars are awful in the snow.
If it is a T-top car, check it for leaks. Pending the shape of the car obviously, that sounds like a pretty decent deal.

The very early mustangs will usually run about 9k-14k for one in pretty decent shape. Not sure on Toronto but generally those are the prices it goes for.
