NOT a good day today.
Portis to I.R. with this concussion he cant shake off.
Reported on voices.washingtonpost.com-he himself talks like he might not be coming back.
Looks like he is done, should have had a shot at Riggo's career rushing record but it looks like a season too far.
One Tough Hombre, thanks for the many happy memories.
The skins will get other running backs.
But Portis will not be replaced.

i listened to him on the john thompson show 10 minutes after he found out he was going to ir. he sounded extremely depressed. anytime that you find out information like that your immediate reaction is going to be one of disappointment. john thompson actually sounded really up beat about it. said he has full confidence in portis and his work ethic that he will put in 110% this offseason and be ready to go in better shape next year. portis is a warrior and i agree with thompson. i do obviously think though that finding someone to help take the load off and compliment portis is imperative. it made me happy to hear john thompson today talk about how much he loves noel devine, even to the degree that hed take devine over percy harvin even after what hes seen harvin do and how much he loves harvin.
on a side note one of my friends in my building is a florida state alum and she loooooves gano. she told me tonight she might even consider converting into a skins fan now. lets hope hes better than suisham.

Yea Orakpo getting 4 sacks was sex basically. What to do with Cooley and Fred next year? Hope we don't do something dumb like trade Cooley.
Gano looked like he has a really strong leg and made 2 nice kicks.
Still like me some Ganther. Happy for him today, great job.

Orakpo is gonna beat our tackles pretty easily I suspect.

It's a shame that both Davis and Cooley are fairly one-dimensional TEs as pass catchers. If one was a stronger blocker there could be some crucial 2 TE sets.

cooley is actually developing into a real good blocker. sorry.. was developing. that should definitely be a base set next year with sellers going down with injuries and what not.. and old age.

Even though Orakpo is playing great at linebacker, I would love to see him play with his hand in the dirt for all 3 downs. He can be downright scary.

I don't think he's been good at OLB at all. So yes I agree he needs to be a DE all three downs.

I never bought into the Maybin hype. The ESPN guys did a great job of hyping him up. Too bad McShay isn't very good.

Me either that's why I was so pumped when the Bills took Maybin, knew he was gonna be a bust, too much of a tweener.

I knew the Bills were ****** when they took Maybin. I always thought that Maybin would be a better fit playing in the 34 as a linebacker.
Bottomline, the Skins got the better player.

I'm not 100% certain Orakpo would fare any better than Maybin in Buffalo. Maybin is getting minimal playing time because Schobel and Kelsay have stepped it up and become better pass rushers, eliminating the need for the situational pass rusher. Orakpo would probably be in the same boat

It's a shame he won't even be in DRoy discussion as it will go to Cushing or Matthews. Not even Byrd will be considered. It's amazing but both Orakpo and Andre Carter are top 10 in the league in sacks. Orakpo could very well have close to a 15 sack rookie season when all is said and done. Even if he doesn't get a single sack from here on out which is unlikely an 11 sack rookie season for just playing DE sparingly is incredible.

Well played game by the Skins yesterday. Well coached also. I think there were a lot of good things to take from that game even though it was the Raiders. Remember the Eagles traveled across the country to Oakland and lost and the Raiders just beat the Steelers. Jamarcus Russell is a bad quarterback but our offense beat up on a decent defense a long way from home and our defense never slacked off. They played strong the entire game and dominated all the way to the final whistle, without Haynesworth. We have many of the right pieces in place for a downright disgusting defense next year.
Individual Points
-Not enough can be said about Orakpo. With his hand in the dirt he is almost unblockable 1 on 1. He has such an impressive repertoire of pass rush moves already and he is completely relentless, not to mention strong as hell.
-Andre Carter has quietly put together a very good season. Last year he was playing out of position with Jason Taylor and now that he is back where he belongs, and teams cannot double team him, hes living in the backfield. He's also been very impressive in the run game.
-Landry looked much better yesterday playing strong safety. I saw him in the box a lot and he had a very strong game, including a forced fumble and an interception. He had a big hit on the sideline on one play and instead of his usual cocky celebrations he just got up and walked away. It looked like Reed got most of the snaps at FS over Moore. It will be interesting to watch Reeds transition to FS. He has done everything asked of him at SS and he is a very coachable player.
-Fletcher and McIntosh are simply awesome but dont lose track of HB Blades. I think he is turning into a very good back up linebacker. I am not sure that he is a great starter but he is starting to show that he can be very valuable to this defense given his versatility out there.
-The Campbell situation is going to be very interesting this offseason. I've never been a strong supporter of Campbell at quarterback, and I still don't think that he is ever going to be a great NFL QB. But, with that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Skins try to work something out if he continues to play well the rest of this year and show development. This team is not that far from being a contender. The o-line has a ton of holes but beyond that there are not a lot of big issues and to draft a qb would set the Skins farther back than necessary. One bad performance though and I think they let him walk.
-Don't jump on the Ganther Train too fast. Yes, he had a decent game. BUT, keep in mind that both of his touchdowns were from the 1 yard line and if you take away his 42 yard reception, he had only 16 touches for 51 yards. That's only 3.2 yards per touch. Marcus Mason is still the guy I like more. He was limited to 7 touches yesterday but made the most of them with 41 yards, an average of 5.9 yards per touch.
-What will it take to yank Randle El off punt return duties? He is easily the worst punt returner in the NFL. It's downright embarrassing.

Forgot to mention any props to Gano. A nice first game for him going 2/2 with field goals and both were over 40 yards.

Gano was solid and he actually can kick the ball in the endzone on kickoffs, I don't remember the last time the skins had a kicker that consistently did that.
Agree with DT for the most part except I really like Ganther. He really runs hard and fights for yardage out there, I like Mason as well but I like Ganther better at the moment. I'm fine with a Ganther/Mason combo next year. Portis doesn't make some of the runs these guys have made recently.
Randle El is a terrible return man...I'm not sure when his contract is up but he is virtually worthless to me at this point.
Please keep Landry at SS and Orakpo at DE full time and we have something.
I for one will be sad when JC leaves after this year. He's played very well recently. Even if you're not a JC fan you have to admit he is a tough SOB for taking all the hits he has over the years with this team, both physically and from the media and Snyder/Cerrato

Jason Campbell is really playing well, and it comes at a bad time when it doesn't matter if we win or lose and it will only make it that much harder on Vinny and Dan to make a decision. Our draft soley depends on what happens with Campbell, if campbell stays I see us taking Okung or maybe even Berry if Okung is gone, and maybe taking a QB in the 2nd....
I dont know, its all way to early to tell. Although I will say one thing, that I REALLY would like the skins to get Noel Devine with either their 2nd or 4th round pick..
Congrats to Brian Orakpo. He got 4 sacks, and we didn't even have Big Al on the line next to him. Its awesome that both Rak and Andre both have 10+ sacks this year and I hope Gregg blache keeps Rak at the 4-3 DE pass rushing spot instead of OLB.

We take Okung regardless of if Campbell is here. Okung is #1 on our big board regardless of what moves we make prior to the draft with the only possible exception over him being Eric Berry or Suh but both most likely will be long gone.
