Not a surprise at all. Alex is still progressing but didn't WOW the coaches at all or enough to unseat Hill who helped the team win last year under Sing. Let's go Hill!

YES!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy that Hill has been named the week one starter. He not only deserves it but over the last two seasons, he's earned it after making Dilfer and Sullivan look like crap in comparison. In 10 games, he's 7-3 over the last two seasons. My only complaint with him is that he tends to fumble the ball. If he can at least cut that in half, I'll be a very happy camper.

That mystery man is none other than 27 year old 49ers president Jed York.

Cheers,

Thats who I thought it was but wasnt 100% sure which is why I asked. And he's 27 years old??? Holy crap, he looks like a kid.

And I guess, its not tough outplaying Dilfer or Sullivan but considering that they were playing instead of Hill tells me that Nolan and company had more confidence in them than they did Hill. Obviously, Nolan was wrong and that makes me very very happy.

Singletary choosing Hill to be the starter also makes me happy and I just hope he lets him play the entire season as opposed to benching him after one or two bad games.

Yeah, we know! Just kidding.

I gotta give credit, where credit is due. You hated Nolan from the moment you got here. You were right on too.

I think that starting Hill is the correct decision. What's unfortunate, in my opinion, is that Hill didn't clearly outshine a player who has been labeled a "bust" and is coming off of two severe shoulder injuries and hadn't played in a game in a year. The competition was close, and Smith has 2 plus years of rust on his skills.

I always pulled for Smith. With that said, I hope the 49ers win right out of the gate, which would relegate Smith from the team eventually.

Don't write Smith off yet, we have to see if Hill can sustain his play & health over 16 weeks. Not saying he can't, but it's be naive to think that the team is immune to the injury bug, or if they're going to be performing well on offense.

I'm becoming convinced that the decision was made because of Smith's thumb injury. He won't play this coming weekend which won't allow for anymore "analysis" of the competition with Hill. Hill very likely would've been named the starter regardless but the Smith injury also awarded the job by default.

Thanks for giving me credit as thats definitely a first but it's all good and for the record, I hated Nolan since he was hired which was a while before I came here to NFLDC.

As for Hill/Smith, Hill has shown the last two seasons that when he gets the chance to play, he plays good and more importantly, plays good in the games that matter compared to games that dont or in practice.

I think that if Hill stays healthy, he'll play the entire season and while I dont think that we have a good enough team to get in the playoffs, an 8-8 record isnt out of the question. I also think that Hill will be our "stopgap" QB for the next few years.

As for Smith, I wasnt happy when we drafted him and im still not happy. He's too damn injury prone and the one good season he had was three years ago and that was because of Turner, Gore and a damn good OL. Yeah, its obvious that I dont like Smith and never have (just like Nolan) because I never thought that he was going to be any good. And I'll admit that I didnt think Rodgers was going to be any good either but I would have drafted Rodgers over Smith only because he's from Cal and would be the hometown guy. Excluding them, my top three were Edwards, Rolle and Barron/Brown.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens but im definitely looking forward to the Cardinals game more now with Hill as our starting QB compared to if Smith was named the starter.

I'll be there, sporting my Willis jersey and Niners hat proudly! Beating AZ will be a great way to start making a name for this team in the new season.

It's now the Singletary era, and I've come up with a new catch phrase:

"Let's get some BLING with Coach SING!"

True, but the first game is a road game here in AZ, in the new University of Phoenix Stadium. There are a lot of Niner fans who go to the games here, and they're louder than the Cardinals "Bandwagon Bunch!"

(sigh)

Side (but related) note: You guys think we have a chance to land Bradford in the Draft next year?

Yep. Moved to AZ from NorCal 4 years ago. I'll be in enemy territory! :) Bring it!

Oh, you win that one for sure. The rivalry is bigger, but this one is growing and most of the Cards fans at the games are bandwagon, and can't even name more than 5 or 6 players on the whole team. It's pathetic.

Yeah.. He's gonna fall victim to over analyzing (Michael Oher). I would be psyched if we got him. For some reason, I can just see him in a 49er Uni.
