Same here. Create some depth in case Manning ends up in the division. But nice to see SF come to a deal with Rogers. Wonder what the terms of the deal look like.

That takes a big chunk of our cap space.

Good news if it materializes. Hope it's a 3 year deal. Don't want him too deep into his 30's. I think the Carr and Wright talk was all smoke to sign Rogers. Or, Carr wasn't going to pass up the Cowboys and the Niners had to make their move. Either way, Rogers wanted to be in SF and he'll play hard for this team.
When are the Niners going to release Spencer? They must be close to a trade.

I'll be surprised if any team trades for Spencer. And with everything going on, has Smith been re-signed yet or is he an actual UFA?

Overpaid for Rogers? He's getting $7.5 million a year. That's pretty good for a Pro Bowl corner going on 31. I'd rather have Rogers back than Carr. And I'm glad we didn't settle for Eric Wright.

I meant that the bidding must have reached that level. He's visiting Dallas tonight so basically a done deal, Niners did the best they could I guess.

When I think of 34 year old corners making big money Nate Clements getting beat deep comes to mind. Lets see how much is guaranteed.

There are a lot of corners that have played well around that age. Rogers is a completely different player than Nate Clements. And hopefully at that age, he'll actually have a front seven that will help him out. Assuming Rogers is with us at 34.

We have about 15 million to spend after signing Rodgers , it will take about 6 to sign our draft picks, so that brings us to 9 and we still have to sign Alex so we are about done for the week as far as signing a medium to large contract.
If we can get Spencer off the books that would be another 3 million available. I wonder if Parys gets released this week?

He'll most likely get asked to renegotiate. No release unless the team can sign a FA OLB. The team only has Brooks, Smith and Haralson under contract as OLBs.

Rogers over Carr? Just curious, why?

Why would we release Parys? I dont like him but releasing him would leave us with only two OLB and more importantly, if Aldon cant handle being a starter after a month or so, we could go back to starting Parys and repeat 2011. As much as I dont like Parys, I would keep for the next two years and then, let him walk.

My reason would be that you know what you're getting with Rogers. He is familiar with the system and 49ers staff already knows how to utilize his talents.

Adam Snyder is still important IMO.

Well because he's due to make 2.8 million this year and this is his final year under contract. Aldon looks like he has been earmarked to play 3 downs this year so that makes Parys expendable. We could sdraft a mid and late round OLB for depth or even sign a league minimum OLB and draft one OLB to fill out the position.
It's nice to have Parys for one more year but if Trent needs more cap room at any point Parys will have to be considered.

Randy Moss got Braylon'd
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ng-randy-moss/
Quote:
Per a source with knowledge of the contract, the new contract that Moss signed with the 49ers carries not a penny of guaranteed money.
Instead, Moss will receive a base salary of $1.75 million. He’ll be eligible for another $46,875 for each game that he is on the active 46-man roster. If he’s active for every game, he’ll get a total of $750,000.
Moss also can earn up to $1.5 million in incentives tied to playing time, receptions, and qualifying for the Pro Bowl.

He'd be the perfect 6th lineman but he deserves to start somewhere. Very tough call on how much Snyder is worth. I thought Trent would try to upgrade at the position but it would most likely need to be done via the draft now after that Rodgers contract.
