Well Okoye and Divens cleared waivers and are on our IR. But the 49ers reach an injury settlement with Darcel McBath

#49ers reach an injury settlement with S Darcel McBath (foot), per league source. That means he can re-sign with team later this year...
So now its 13 on IR/NFI/PUP...

I agree but what confuses me is why he tries it twice on the same play.

Have 3-4 more days to reach an agreement with Okoye/Divens.

Does anybody know what kind of injury Divens has?

I would keep Okoye. He signed a three year contract a few months ago. Keep him and let him develop and see where he's at in a year from now.

Dont know what Divens injury is but maybe, its related to being smacked over the head with a beer bottle. :P

Nnamdi Asomugha - DB - 49ers Nnamdi Asomugha has won the No. 3 corner job in San Francisco.

Source: San Francisco Chronicle Aug 29 - 11:00 AM

Asomugha has won the nickelback position but im sure he'll play outside and Rogers will play the slot when he comes in on nickel formations.

Curious to see if Brown or Asomugha will play the left side then. Both of them have played right side most of the time.

Aso has played on both sides in preseason and has said he's comfortable playing either side. So I'm guessing Brown remains at RCB and Aso takes Cully's spot at LCB in the nickel.

In my opinion, the red are cuts (sorry LaVelle Hawkins) and the black are safe (whichever you keep Jennings/McDermott. The blue are bubble guys.

Blue + black = 57

DE Will Tukuafu
DE Tony Jerod-Eddie (between he and Tukuafu. I like Tukuafu better, but Jerod-Eddie is younger/cheaper. Carradine takes this spot, anyways.)
OLB Dan Skuta
OLB Cam Johnson (I'd like to keep both Skuta and Johnson)
ILB Nate Stupar (Looks good but we're so deep here.)

Quinton Patton continued to show everyone what AJ Jenkins could not. He barely had any opportunities and in just two preseason games made more of an impact than Jenkins did in two years. Like I said a week ago, it's about being hungry and making plays. Even Chuck Jacobs proceeded to get his roll on again.

93 Williams, Ian NT 6-1 305 23 3 Notre Dame
10 Williams, Kyle WR 5-10 186 25 4 Arizona St.
52 Willis, Patrick LB 6-1 240 28 7 Mississippi

WR Kassim Osgood (Don't know how you can justify keeping him over Hawkins. Still have several gunners.)
S Trenton Robinson (Another gunner. S is a position of need)
S Raymond Ventrone (Wildcard. Is his ST ability worth a spot?)

4 of those 8 guys, in my opinion
I think they find a way to keep Hawkins. Honestly, I'd take Hawkins over Baldwin. But because of Baldwin's contract, they probably won't cut him. Remember Hawkins signed late and was still learning the offense the first week of pre-season. He's impressed me more than Moore(ha), who has looked good himself. But Hawkins has just made big plays the more time he has had in the offense. Don't know too much about why he failed with the Titans but he's made plays for us and I think he's earned a spot on the 53. Is Moore's spot really that secure? Stay tuned...

If you want Cam on, then I think either Moody or Robinson might be the odd men out. Robinson has looked ok. I remember him missing a few tackles versus the Chiefs. Haven't watched last night's game yet so I don't know how he did. I really like Moody. I think he could be a viable back-up to either Bow or Pat in a year. I probably like him a little more than I like Cam at this point. All the beat writers have been gushing over his performance last night, but I don't think one good game should earn you a spot on the 53 when you've been pretty much mediocre your entire tenure as a Niner up to that point. But do you expose a young pass-rusher, who might of had his breakout performance last night, to the waiver wire? Will one game be enough to earn him a spot on the roster? We have some tough decisions to make.

Here's my FINAL 53 player roster (even though a few roster moves could still be made after waivers) -

QB / 3 - Kaepernick, McCoy, Daniels (R)
RB / 6 - Gore, Hunter, James
FB / 8 - Miller, Dixon
WR / 14 - Boldin, Baldwin, Williams, Patton (R), Hawkins, Moore
TE / 17 - Davis, McDonald, Celek
C / 19 - Goodwin, Kilgore
OG / 22 - Iupati, Boone, Snyder
OT / 25 - Staley, Davis, Bykowski (R)

DE / 30 - Smith, McDonald, Dorsey, Tukuafu, Jerod-Eddie
DT / 32 - Williams, Purcell (R)
OLB / 36 - Smith, Brooks, Lemonier, Skuta
ILB / 40 - Willis, Bowman, Wilhoite, Moody (R)
CB / 46 - Rogers, Brown, Asomugha, Cox, Brock, Cooper (R)
FS / 48 - Reid (R), Spillman
SS / 50 - Whitner, Dahl

K / 51 - Dawson
P / 52 - Lee
LS / 53 - Jennings

That's my final 53 player roster. Dobbs will be on reserve/suspended list and I would say that he'll replace Tukuafu, Purcell or Jerod-Eddie if/when he comes back. Went with Hawkins over Osgood just because he's been consistent at WR including yesterday. Went with Moore over Osgood because he can play special teams and is younger. Went with Bykowski over Looney because Snyder can play both guard and tackle while Looney cant and I rather have that extra young tackle in Bykowski over Looney. Regardless, I dont see Looney or Bykowski on the 53 player roster once the NFL/PUP guys start to come back. Lemonier, Skuta, Wilhoite and Moody have been more solid than Johnson so he's not on my final 53 player roster. Everything else is pretty much expected.

Special Teams (excluding Dawson) would be Dahl, Spillman, Brock, Cox, Wilhoite, Skuta, Moody, Jerod-Eddie, Moore and Dixon. Is this accuracte?

Cant wait for the season to start. I got my popcorn ready!!! Actually, it'll be sandwiches and orange juice. :D

LeMichael James has an MCL sprain. Could be could a couple of games until he returns, maybe more.

Quote:
The San Francisco 49ers made it through their preseason schedule in relatively decent shape, but they will be dealing with one moderately serious injury. LaMichael James was spotted icing his knee in the first half of the game, and Matt Barrows is now reporting that he suffered a sprained MCL.

An MCL sprain can be a 1, 2 or 3 grade sprain. The best case scenario in a grade 1 is that you have some stretching and damage to the fibers with rest and some physical rehab, but no surgery. Grade 2 is some partial tearing of the ligament. A grade 3 "sprain" is a complete tear of the ligament. That schedule of 1, 2 and 3 grades thus brings you somewhere along that range.

Although the 49ers likely won't confirm, this should keep him out of the 49ers home opener against the Packers, and I suspect the Seahawks game as well. He could very well miss several additional games, but we'll have to wait for more details to come out before we can know with any certainty.

This will get interesting with roster cuts coming over the next 24 hours. Does the team keep Jewel Hampton, or do they figure Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon can handle the workload?

Bykowski wasn't even the second team RT so really don't see him make it. If you want a young tackle i think it would be Kenny Wiggins who was the second team LT.

LMJ has been disappointing.

They better keep Cam Johnson.

James will look a lot better behind our non-****** starting offensive line. I saw enough of him last year as a fan to be optimistic.

James is an explosive back. His injury will set him back a few weeks or so but we have enough depth to handle his injury.

I know Bykowski hasnt done anything but under a cheap four year rookie deal, he's cheaper to keep with far more upside and potential. Hasnt Wiggins been on our practice squad the last two seasons? As for Looney, he was injured last year and he just seems to be expendable to me. So, I went with the younger and cheaper player with far more upside and potential.

Hopefully, only a few more hours to go. I know the deadline is 6pm EST tomorrow but since its Labor Day weekend, I would think that teams want to get their cuts in and get ready for their four day holiday weekend before preparing for week one.

I dont care how cheap Bykowski is, he isn't making it over Looney. He's not ready. He needs a couple of years on the PS to develop. Similar to what we did with Boone.

Same with Purcell. Both would very likely clear waivers for the PS.

Definitely a few tough calls. But I believe you feel Osgood will make the team. He very well might. But if the choice is between a young, pass rusher with upside or a career STer (Osgood, Ventrone, etc.) I'm keeping Johnson.

I've been fighting between Jerod-Eddie and Tukuafu. I suppose it's very possible (especially with Dobbs, Dorsey, and Williams all able to play DE) that they cut both of them. Carradine can be ready after week 6.

No, I don't want Osgood. Much rather we keep Hawkins. I don't think this team can afford to keep strictly STs guys. Those days are over. I think you have to bring more to the table than just STs with a roster this talented. So no go on Osgood for me. Too many young guys I think we have to develop to keep strictly special teams guys like Osgood and Ventrone. Even our core STs guys, guys like Dixon and Spillman, can bring something to the table when their number is called to step on offesne and defense. That's what I think it will have to be from here on out.

TJE has been solid. I don't think its anyway he clears waivers if he's released but I'm ok with that. A couple of teams tried to sign him last year off our PS. I really like Purcell and think he'll clear waivers just fine. Plus we have Okoye stashed for a year and even though he's no where near ready, his talent is evident and immense. Maybe next year he'll show enough improvement to earn a roster spot. Plus we still have Dial and Tank waiting in the wings. So losing TJE and Tukafau won't be bad at all if it happens. Even though I like both players and hope at least one of them sticks around in some capacity.

According to rotoworld.com, we released WR Lavelle Hawkins and signed FB Owen Marecic. Looks like Anthony Dixon will be the odd man out as I dont see the 49ers keeping three fullbacks unless Dixon becomes the third running back while James is injured.

2012 draft looking worse every day...Robinson didn't stand out at all in preseason and looks like a dime a dozen backup DB. Ventrone gets that 5th S spot for ST's (he's been Andy Lee's personal protector on punts).

We also released Jason Schepler, Travis Johnson, Kassim Osgood, and Lavelle Hawkins on top of those 3. From 75 to to 69 (7 cut but 1 signing with Marecic)
