I hope the Falcons are considering a big DT like Dan Williams with thier first rounder. I would not be satisfied with the current DTs if I was on that coaching staff. They really can go a wide variety of directions with their pick and DT should be one they consider.

Getting Dunta Robinson will mean less pressure to get a pass rusher. One of the reasons why our pass rush sucked in 2009 was because our corners couldn't cover for more then 2 seconds. This should instantly help along with more experience from Kroy and Sid.
We could focus more on other positions like OLB or WR if we want.

And why should they not be happy with a very good DT in Babs and a guy they just invested a first round pick on? Just read in SI the plan is to sign Robinson and then draft Spoon or Graham.

Looks like this will cost us a lot. Still though, I'm very excited. Do you guys think after we get him we're set at CB?
Brian Williams will probly be #2 with grimes/owens at nickle. Chevis Jackson and Chris Houston are battling for the last spot imo.

Still intrigued by the possibility of landing Dansby. We are interested, but it will be interesting to see if
a. We will still want to spend the cash after Dunta
b. He even leaves from Miami
On Dunta, I'm placing my faith with TD. We've supposedly been infatuated with him for a while, and TD even tried to swing a deal for him last year. He's a self admitted CB snob, and I don't think he's just going to hand out cash freely. I haven't seen this point brought up, but remember when we brought in a solid CB but nothing special by the name of Foxworth? And then he went on to do a very good job for us. I'm trusting TD feels like bringing Robinson back home and putting him in our scheme is going to pay huge dividends.

Ok after watching this im VERY excited for this signing.
He is a smart guy, you can tell...see that eye contact...well thought out answers....(im a sucker for this stuff...public relations major) seems like he will fit right into our locker room
How about this? he is dead set Roddy White's head with Mike Peterson's voice.
Also its been made official and its a 6 year deal.
haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adEI-...eature=related

Wow I did not expect 6 years. That will keep him with us until he's 33.

Good signing.
I don't see Williams as the number two. I think he could get it, but Grimes performed admirably down the stretch and Owens showed flashes.
And no, we will cut him before the end of the contract.

He'll be like 33, 34. Will probly get cut but you can never predict that.
I'm more concerned what he does for us next year.

I'm really starting to think the pick is going to be Spoon. I could definitely see the team being more comfortable with Kroy/Sid/Davis than with starting both Nicholas and Peterson.

I'd like spoon as well. Perfect replacement for peterson.
Actually reminds me a lot of young peterson. I like that.

That's a tough contract to swallow. Hopefully TD is positive about this one.

And I'm pretty much in love with the idea of drafting Spoon at this point.

Wow, that's a lot of cash.
Well, screw it, it's AB's money, not mine, and there's no cap. And he was definitely the best secondary fix available.
I'm still more in favour of DE than Spoon, but would be fine with it.

I would be way happier with Curran in round 3 then Spoon in round 1.
Then we could get a pass rusher in the 1st (brandon Graham)
We will still have at least 5 more picks after those two counting comps.

At least the positive of the ridiculous contract that Robinson got is the fact that we can focus on other areas of the draft and hope the best from him. With a stable of Chris Houston, Brent Grimes, Chris Owens, and Chevis Jackson (jeez I cant believe those were our top 4 guys for the most of last year), hopefully 1 of them step up to give us a pair of solid CBs (assuming Robinson doesn't bust). Bringing in a FA veteran CB might not have been a bad idea because we already have a ton of young and talented guys. I forgot about Brian Williams for next season too actually. Hopefully we can bring the best out of Robinson.
I still really want a DE from our first round pick. We desperately need a pass rush to be better and Abe, Biermann, Davis, and Sidbury are not going to cut it for the next couple of years. It seems like Graham's stock is no longer skyrocketting so hopefully he will be there at #19 for our taking. He is a hard working guy with a non stop motor - exactly the type of players to look for if you want to avoid an athletic freak bust (like Anderson...or JPP).
I wouldn't have a problem with Spoon at #19 I guess. Curran in the later rounds sounds like a better deal, but Spoon looks to be the real deal at LB. Mike Peterson is the vocal leader on the defense right now, but this needs to change considering his age and how terrible he is against the pass. Spoon is the perfect guy to replace him and add a LB who can cover Shockey and Winslow.

Heres the thing about the spoon/graham debate in my head
Spoon will provide us with a better player in 2010. He will be a great player for whoever he goes to. Our problem last year was pash rush and corners, even though he is old, Peterson wasnt all that bad, sure LBs are important but spoon having a Brian Cushing-esk year for us next year may not have the impact on our entire defense that an improved pass rush would. (ie making corners and line backers all better)
Brandan Graham may not be as instant of an impact of a rookie linebacker but probably has the ability to make our whole defense better if he can help generate a pass rush along with Sid, Abe and Kroy. Graham is quite polished though, id say hed be more ready than your average rookie DE. Its more of an investment in our future pass rush 3some in Sid Kroy and Graham than the in know move of an impact LB
Also, its far easier to get a LB in the later rounds to develop than to take another project DE and hope they develop. According to Scotts top 100 Dekoda Watson and AJ Edds are both outside the top 100. Both have immense potential as WLB if they are given a year to work on their relative short commings, this happens to work perfectly with Peterson in the last year of his contract and still be servicable. Both players are great in coverage. Both players are more pro-ready than any 3rd round defensive ends. Dekoda is physically amazing but he needs to develop his game mentally. Aj Edds is a polished player with a great head on his shoulders but he needs a year to get physically ready to play. He is 6"4 245 but should be a more lean-cut 250lb after a year in a pro program.
Think mid 2010(if Peterson slips) or day one 2011. A mentally ready Dekota Watson or a jacked up AJ Edds ready to take over for Pete able to roam free behind
Kroy/Sid, Babs, Jerry, Graham/Sid

Yeah, I'm just riding the Spoon train as of now due to his incredible performance and personality. I'd be very happy with Graham too. I think he can easily step in and make an impact.

As do I. However, I could very easily see a team using a late 2nd on him. But yeah, I'm very happy with all of our possibilities at 19. Believe it or not, Derrick Morgan would probably be the only one who disappoints me a bit. But I'd love it if JPP or Haden took a fall. Or anyone of Spoon, Kindle, Graham, etc. But I truly do believe it's Graham, Spoon, or trade down.

JPP and Dunlap scare the hell out of me. I hope they are gone before we pick.
As for Jimmy Graham i too get the feeling that someone could steal him early...but i just keep reminding myself of the more athletic, more productive Jared Cook last year who feel and Chris Coffman and Corneus Ingram. Hope for a similair TE tumble this year.
Graham in Anderson out
Edds/Watson under Pete for a year
Graham under Gonzalez for a year
Best C available under Mclure for a year
really really sounds good

I forgot Dunlap. Wouldn't be happy with him either. But yes, that plan sounds nice.

Babs might get suspend for his DUI arrrest. It's not his first brush with legal issues. Jerry is coming off a torn ACL, has a history of injuries and doesn't have ideal NT size. Even if they're both healthy and stay out of trouble, the Falcons could use a young Grady Jackson. Bab's ability to play some DE would make taking a big DT even more sensible.
