I agree with this entirely. Incidentally, I'm still crossing my fingers that Bradford's shoulder is still fundamentally f*cked, the Rams take Suh, and the Bucs don't get a great DT. But I know I'm kidding myself.

Btw, you could find decent logic to support picking any 1st round calibre player that is not a QB, S, or MLB. Going to be a very interesting evening. Hurry up draft day.

Pouncey has actually become the player I want most, who the Falcons may actually have a chance to get. The Falcons would potentially have a long term answer at center to put in front of their QB, who should also be around a long time. If Mcclure is going to be gone soon, now would be an opportune time to grab a top center prospect. Yeah, they have other needs blah blah. The Draft isn't just about addressing the most glaring current needs. It's also about building for the long term. If they don't take a center this year, they'll likely just have to do it next year. If Pouncey is the best prospect for the Falcons on the board, there's nothing wrong with getting ahead of the curve on a need that will soon need to be addressed. The Colts have used most of their first rounders, since they got Peyton Manning, to surround him with talent. A team with a young franchise QB should consider that.

I just don't see the point in using a top pick on an interior lineman. Especially when our team is the model for success with lower round lineman (Clabo, Dahl, McClure may be our three best).

I prefer finding the gritty guys in the middle to later rounds. Same deal with linebacker, unless he's PWillis.

First round picks, IMO, are at QB, OT, WR, DE, DT, and CB. Other positions (RB, S) are fine as well if the value is there.

I wouldn't hate Pouncey, but I wouldn't love it. I'm firmly in the Dez Bryant bandwagon now that it seems he might just fall.

I just can't see TD picking such a moron. If he does, I'll eat my words (and be excited for the offensive possibilities), but I'm pretty confident.

I don't see it happening either. But I'd be so happy if it were to happen. Our offense could be extremely explosive.

Yeah, I am praying that he falls so we can pick him up. I really like his skill set and he would be in a winning locker room, which can cure a lot of problems. Don't tell me Roddy White can't relate to Bryant and Gonzalez's work ethic doesn't rub off. Like I said before, I don't think Dmitroff would pass up that talent, especially after being interested in Anquan Boldin.

Dez Bryant is not the type of character TD looks for. Talent wise and physically, he is everything we need in a WR. No way he falls at 19 because there is a big drop off in the WR position after him. Only thing that would make him fall to us are his character concerns.

He is a lot like Anquan Boldin. They are very alike physically as well, and both ran a slow time in the 40. I doubt he'll go outside of top 10 though.

One minor reason for passing on Bryant: next year's WR class, which is ridiculous (TD has said that looking ahead to next year's class is important).

IMO, we need to move Clabo to LG, and then have Blalock to C. that would give us 3 guys who our big, powerful and physical in the interior of the OL. It would give us the best ability to counteract those DT's and even allow us the ability to have a solid RT come in and make our OL that much better. It would also mask Blalock's problems as an LG in pass protection by giving him 2 really good guards on the sides of him. IMO we should take an RT in the 3rd round like Selvish Capers. IMO we would go with this OL going forward in 2011:
LT - Sam Baker - 6'5" 312
LG - Tyson Clabo - 6'6" 332
C - Justin Blalock - 6'3" 333
RG - Harvey Dahl - 6'5" 308
RT - Selvish Capers - 6'4" 308

I wouldn't just stick Justin Blalock at center like that.

Exactly. The move from tackle/center to guard isn't quite the same as moving to center. And let's not forget, Blalock sucks.

Don't see Blalock moving to C at all. Has he ever played the position, even in college? Not that I recall.

I think the best, and most likely, outcome is that we draft a C in the 3rd or 4th, to nudge out McClure in 2011. Tennant seems like a good bet, but we may go for someone with more bulk.

I still maintain that a good pivot is so important that I'd be happy with drafting Pouncey. Just look at the Jets...

Drafting Pouncey would give us a young line that could grow with Matt Ryan. There are ??? at each position, but look at the age and time the line has to grow.

Sam Baker (24) LT
Justin Blalock (26) LG
Maurkice Pouncey (20) C - [his birthday is a day after mine. he is about to make millions and millions in less than a month and what have I done? ****]
Harvey Dahl (28) RG
Tyson Clabo (28) RT

The right side of the line may need replacing soon, but 28 years old isn't bad for an offensive lineman. Dahl and Clabo both struggled in pass blocking last year and must improve if they want to stay on the team for the long haul. But I also like D-Rod's idea of getting a C in the 3rd or 4th. McClure is definitely getting old, but doesn't need to be replaced immediately. Sitting a physical C on the bench for a year would basically be like getting a 1st or 2nd round center next year.

Now, I've been a Pouncey supporter for a while. But to me, he's not Nick Mangold. And he's the only center prospect in recent memory I'd use top 20 pick on. Now, if we traded down, ok. But 19 is a bit too high in my mind.

Pouncey's stock has been crazy lately. We'd be lucky to get him at 19.

I'm not saying he won't go that high, I'm saying I don't think a center's value should be that high.

No I see what you're saying and I completely agree. He's not a top 20 pick at all, but the way his stock is will make it hard to even grab him at 19.

Oh definitely. But yeah, I'm really pulling for Dez now. I think he just takes us to a different level offensively. And if we are making it to the Super Bowl next year, it's going to be because of our offense. Regardless if we add Graham, Spoon, etc.

Unlike most years, I feel like I am going to be very satisfied with our first round pick.

Weatherspoon, Graham, Bryant, McClain, Kindle, JPP, etc..

The only picks that would rain on my parade would be interior lineman (Pouncey, Iupati; more so do to position than the player, as I like them both) or Derrick Morgan. Also not thrilled with the idea of a CB, but I doubt we go there.

It's almost a bit boring this year, because there's no real tension. UNless TD does something totally nuts, we'll get a good player who'll improve our team.

The 3rd -5th rounds will be the really interesting ones.

It still really hurts not to have that 2nd rounder. Puts a lot more pressure on our 1st round pick.

But it's great having 2 picks in 3rd, 2 picks in 5th, 2 picks in 6th.

Has it been, really? I more I think about it, the more I would like a physical C to form a tandem with Ryan for the rest of his career. I was really high on Alex Mack last year but that was when we were picking in the 20s.
