Rocky McIntosh, ILB - Doesnt fit and will get offered more money elsewhere
Andre Carter, LB - Bad fit and aging
Carlos Rogers, CB - Just not working here, can't catch, will get a big contract somewhere
Donovan McNabb, QB - Writings on the wall
Clinton Portis, RB - Sad to see him go the way he has
Philip Daniels, DE - Too old
Vonnie Holliday, DE - Even older
Stephon Heyer, OL - Would consider resigning as a backup but hes just not good
Mike Sellers, FB - Have loved him in DC but will be 36 next year
Santana Moss, WR - Hardest decision IMO, Is it worth signing him to a long term deal on a rebuilding team?

Resign
Will Montgomery, OG/C - Good depth player
Anthony Armstrong, WR - Has earned a longer deal
Phil Buchanon, CB - Veteran presence in secondary, has played ok this year
Reed Doughty, SS - Good box tackler, shouldnt be starter
H.B. Blades, ILB - Decent depth at ILB and special teams
Chris Wilson, OLB - Situational pass rusher
Anthony Bryant, NT - Big body and decent depth but not a starter
Rex Grossman, QB - Not a lot of option, has shown he at least isnt as bad as I thought he would be

FA Pickups
Ryan Harris, OT
Richard Marshall, CB
Stephen Bowen, DE
Shawne Merriman, OLB
Desmond Bishop, ILB

Trade
Albert Haynesworth to TENN for there 4th round pick

Draft
Round 1, Pick 12 - Jake Locker, QB, Washington
Round 2, Pick 44 - Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State
Round 4, Pick 105 (via Ten) - Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor
Round 5, Pick 140 - Armon Binns, WR, Cincinnati
Round 5, Pick 154 (via NO) - Tejay Johnson, FS, TCU
Round 6, Pick 172 - Caleb Schlauderaff, OG, Utah
Round 7, Pick 204 - Terrell McClain, DL, South Florida
Round 7, Pick 216 (vid Ind) - Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State

Thoughts?
Solid, just a few things I would change.

I'm a fan of Carlos, if he wants to stay for the right price I think we should keep him. Yea he will drop 9/10 int's but he is a solid corner and we don't need to deplete another position and create need. I kind of feel the same way about Jammal Brown, but if he wants franchise tackle money we will have to cut our losses with him.

Some of the re-signs I could do without like Doughty and Blades but we really can't cut the whole roster.

As far as the draft, I've really come around to Locker sans the whole McNabb debacle in Detroit. If we can get him at 12 that is really good value imo.

Wisniewski would also be really solid value in the 2nd as he can play multiple positions on a depleted line, get Rabach the hell out of here, it's been long overdue.

Like the Armon Binns pick in the 5th. Saw him play quite a few games, kid has some decent talent.

i dont necessarily disagree with keeping either player for the right price but i feel pretty confident that rogers is going to want at least if not more than dhall and jbrown is going to want franchise LT terms. in both cases i gotta say id rather let them walk.

Good God - have you been reading my mind? Phil Taylor & Armon Binns are two players I had the Skins drafting in my own (as yet unreleased mocks). Some of the differences I have in FA are:
getting VJackson from SD
keeping Jammal Brown (Shanny has had some +ve things to say about him lately)
keeping Moss. It all depends on what they want or are offered in FA.
Love the drafting of Wisniewski in the 2nd - perfect pick.

i considered vjax but a lot has to happen for us to land him. sd would have to let him walk without franchise tagging him and he would have to want to come to DC to play with rex grossman/rookie qb. im going to assume several teams offer him a lot of money and i just dont see him signing here.

with jbrown, i have no doubt that he can be a solid player in this offense but i refuse to pay him franchise lt money from what ive seen. he absolutely cannot stay healthy for a full season and trent williams is hopefully our LT for a long time.

What kind of trade value does Cooley have? If we could get a 3rd for him I"d do it in a heart beat to help one of our other needs. Cooley simply isn't as explosive and seems to be pretty lazy now, plus I am just as confident in Fred Davis. Hopefully Cooley makes the pro bowl this year to drive up his value. Also unless he asks for ridiculous money I think you have to keep Santana. A team leader and brings stability to the wide receiver unit. I'm not a fan of totally starting off new with our wide receivers. Next thing you know we have Roydell Williams starting next year opposite of Armstrong. BTW if Malcolm Kelly even sprains his ankle at any point in the offseason I am cutting him on teh spot.

Tough to argue against your points. I love Cooley and it would crush me to lose him but he is getting in the way of Davis at this point. Quite frankly I expected more 2 TE sets this year considering we have an obvious strength there.

cooley made it as second alternate. id be on board for trading him too if it was for a third. would be tough because i love the guy but like you said im just as confident in fred davis going forward. hes one of the only guys we really have for trade bait.

Hopefully Kevin Barnes shows positive signs again this week and maybe could step in as our #2 next year although if worst comes to worst I'd rather him at FS than Moore or Doughty. Have been pleading for the longest time for him to get on the field.

Not a fan of trading Cooley at all but even he seems like he doesn't want to be here anymore. Definitely been one of his worst years with uncharacteristic drops and effort. It would be tough to see him go but maybe a third would be too much to pass up.

Re-Sign;add Rob Jackson to the list,at least bring him to training camp;
Brandon Banks under contract?

F.A. Pickups;
Guards-Mankins will want top money but i'd like the skins to look at
Blalock(falcons)the weak link on a very good o-line?
Maybe it is because he was a right tackle at college and would fit better as a right guard.
Joseph(bucs)we should be able to outbid the bucs for him, plus G.M. Allen will know if he can fit here.
Harris(titans)finally broken through on another good o-line,should be able to outbid the titans.
Center-Ryan Kalil(panthers)but the skins have given Rabach a contract so looks unlikely.

Nose Tackle-Back-ups Adams(bears) and Hoke(steelers)should be worth enticing away.
Linebacker-A big splash for either I.L.B. Harris(jets) or Woodley(steelers) if they are able to hit the market.
Corner-Jonathan Joseph(bengals)another team that doesnt like to spend big money in F.A.
Safety-Your guess is as good as mine(probably Sharper l.o.l.)They need some experience at free safety.

Trade;
This is a big IF,are the skins going in more of kyle shannahans offense direction?
Then ask the texans about R.B. steve Slaton,a former 3rd rounder, throw in one of our 5th rounders and you get our speed-back/3rd down back.He is not doing muchin houston now.

DRAFT ;

The big Question is-Andrew Luck is he going to declare for 2011 or stay another year?
If he stays i dont think we get a shot at Locker.
Round 2 would be great if we picked an offensive lineman but free safety and nose tackle could well be in the mix.

Haha yeah I've been saying it he is the guy we need but that's if we Keep Santana. IMO if Santana leaves Julio is the better option if we go WR because he works the middle better and is tougher and stronger. Armstrong is the deep threat but if Santana stays Blackmon has a chance to be an elite #2.

BTW will be watching Locker intently tonight.

def looking forward to watching locker tonight. with blackmon i disagree strongly. the guy has everything it takes to be a stud #1. hes like a blend of greg jennings (physical deep threat), boldin (size/speed combo), and nicks (long arms and go get it mentality).

with that in mind. heres a nice article about how moss is a great fit in the slot in shanahans offense.

Makes me feel horrible but I am rooting for the Giants big time this week. A win could drop us potentially all the way to as bad as the 17th or 18th pick in the draft which would be disasterous given how bad we've been this year and how badly we need to rebuild. A loss and we are hovering right around top 10. Sounds terrible but I have been rooting against us the past 3 weeks, could havce had a top 5 pick. Anyways anything that gives Shanny confidence that Rex can be our QB of the future is a bad thing.

rex is 31 next year. i dont think any part of this staff sees him as the qb of the future. the qb for 2011? probably. i wouldnt say im rooting against the skins as much as im rooting for teams like the titans, seahawks, vikings, cardinals, browns, cowboys, niners, etc.

Michael Vick is 31, obviously not comparing them but I wouldn't be shocked to learn after the season that Shanny and Kyle especially think Grossman can have 4-5 more years as a starter.

Side note but Locker has always reminded me of Plummer, just saying...

Thoughts:

What do we do if none of the big 4 qb's drop to us? Are you taking a 2nd tier QB like Ponder or waiting til next year? Are you willing to trade up and give up the 2nd round pick (or whatever it takes) to get one? Vince Young?

I agree wholeheartedly with the trade Cooley for a 3rd or maybe 4th if you can get it. I love the guy but he has not looked good this year and he is one of the few tradeable assets on this team.

Rexy is better than a lot of guys we could pickup next year and Kyle loves him because he already knows the offense. He is better than Troy Smith and they wont choose Shaun Hill over him because of familiarity. Say hello to your 2011 Washington Redskins starting QB!

I've watched Locker at least a half dozen times and he just doesn't look like a top 15 pick. IMO he looks more like a 2nd round project QB. IMO he's a bigger project than Newton. Locker is all physical tools. He's big, strong, extremely talented as a runner and has a good arm. His accuracy is not great though and he doesn't read the field. Right now I am pretty much down to Mallett and Newton. I like Mallett despite his lack of mobility and I do like Newton even though he's the definition of boom or bust. Right now I might even have Gabbert above Locker if he declares. Like his release and precision. With that said Locker is still probably a top 20 pick but I just don't like him, just as I didn't like Claussen. Never thought Claussen would drop out of the top 15 so who knows with Locker.

Good outcome today, lost but still played well. I think we will end up picking around 10th. Probably in range to pick up 1 of the big 4 QBs.

Hopefully Luck declares. IMO Locker could fall to the 2nd, I think most scouts are really down on him, I think he's overrated here on NFLDC. From what I hear most scouts had him top 15 at best before the bowl game. I guess Senior bowl will be huge for him, I could definitely see him dropping considering last year I thought Claussen was a top 10 lock. Locker has been too poor IMO for a franchise to take him early as their franchise QB.
