Very good value, guy is a hard worker with great intangibles. Can be a solid rotational guy in our 3-4. Doesn't mind doing the dirty work.

Liked Ian Williams more but Nield could make the roster as a decent backup. Hate NT's with midget arms though.

Quick Grades:

Ryan Kerrigan: C+: Nice motor and work ethic does not project as an every down player. Can't cover or play in space, too small to play on the line. Situational pass rusher. Could end up bulking up and playing DE ala Paul Kruger.

Jarvis Jenkins: B+: Very nice pick, slight reach. Perfect 5 tech prospect. Needs to get his body up to par though, a bit pudgy and not overly strong.

Leonard Hankerson: A: Steal. Big with decent speed and vertical ability. Needs to stop body catching though.

Roy Helu: C+: Really similar to Ryan Torrain. Hits the hole very quick and has some nice straight line speed. Negatives very small lower body, will never break a tackle, injury prone.

Dejon Gomes: C: Pretty big reach. Profiles as no more than a special teams player. Lots of intensity and special teams ability, not great in coverage. Has played LB before, could be used in that Reed Doughty role.

Niles Paul: C: Big and fast, playmaker. Doesn't run good routes and has suspect hands. Can be a kick returner. Said it earlier but really similar to Devin Thomas.

Evan Royster: D: Very nice hands, nice vision/patience. Slow as sin though. Might not have the speed to hit the hole in the NFL. Profiles as a 3rd down back, like his hands a lot. Slow and not strong, not a good combination.

Aldrick Robinson: A: Maybe our best pick of the draft. Speedy guy who is a prototype slot. Will probably have a much brighter future than Niles Paul.

Brandyn Thompson: C: Fast and a playmaker, lacks size to be a real contributor. Nickel DB at best.

Maurice Hurt: F: late 6th/7th round prospect prior to testing positive for drugs at the combine. Unlikely to make the roster.

Markus White: D: Pretty productive at FSU but doesn't fit well in a 3-4. Will have to play OLB but with a 4.9 forty it's not likely. He's an extremely extremely poor man's Andre Carter.

Chris Nield: C+: Should compete for a roster spot. Absolute plug. Great work ethic and strenth, lacks ideal NT size, doesn't penetrate, and has really short arms for a NT.

All in all happy to add depth in this draft. Definitely quality over quantity. Again no QB so yeah. Should have addressed interior line earlier.

Whenver the lockout is done, UDFA's I want to go after:

OLB Mario Addison
DE Martin Parker
S Joe Lefeged
C Ryan Bartholomew
OLB Ugo Chinasa
WR Terrence Tolliver
K Kai Forbath
OT Willie Smith
WR Tori Gurley
OLB Stevan Friday

Ryan Kerrigan: B i actually have kerrigan much higher than strip as an OLB and I think he will be successful in transition. hes a hard worker, will be strong against the run, and the skins desperately had to add another good pass rusher to this defense.

Jarvis Jenkins: B+: Great fit for what we need at DE. Expect him to come in and play right away and produce.

Leonard Hankerson: A: Big fan of this pick. No complaints at all here..

Roy Helu: B Consensus seems to be hes a perfect fit in Shannys offense and one of the better one cut runners in the draft. Productive and a hard worker. Nice combo of strength and speed. Can't trust torrains health and helu should see plenty of oppurtunity.

Dejon Gomes: D+ Never going to provide much impact Most likely a backup to Landry with Horton and Reed likely gone soon. would have preferred oline here.

Niles Paul: B Can be a good possession. Underrated receiver due to an offense that doesnt pass and with poor qbs. Definitely some risk but a ton of upside for a 5th round pick.

Evan Royster: D: Never been a fan. He cannot hit a hole hard and has never impressed me at the line. Hes only really any good in open space.

Aldrick Robinson: A- big time redzone threat and great combo of size and speed. love this pick.

Brandyn Thompson: C- Lots of experience but needs to get bigger

Maurice Hurt: C- If theres one position I trust Shanny with late rounds its interior OL and Hurt has a lot of versatility to play all 3 positions interior. Not expecting a starter with late round picks but guys who can contribute and provide depth which we need.

Markus White: D Dont get the fit at all.

Chris Nield: B- Like the value we got with Nield and think he can be a good rotational depth player which is great in the 7th round.

Overall B+: I love what we did. Grab a few impact type players and bring in a lot of depth on a roster that desperately needs it. First time in a while we've worked the draft. Even if 6-7 of these guys make the roster it will be a success. I think we might have taken a qb if value was there but IMO it never was. I was happy we didnt reach on a qb just to take one. Can't wait for FA now.

Markus White is such an awful pick. He has no fit in our defense and has seizure issues.

Here is a list of the "TOP" free agent QBs - i just put my own comments/thoughts next to them. What do you guys think the Skins will do?

2011 QB Free Agents:

Marc Bulger (BAL) - AZ
Todd Collins (CHI) - Done
Caleb Hanie (CHI) - Probably Resigned
Brady Quinn (DEN) - Think he is done (I was a fan)
Drew Stanton (DET) - Showed some promise in spot starts, could be a fit
Trent Edwards (JAC) - A fan of his as well, time in Buffalo killed him, think he is done
Luke McCown (JAC) - will be resigned
Brodie Croyle (KC) - Done
Chad Pennington (MIA) - Inuries
Tyler Thigpen (MIA) - Similar to Drew Stanton, I like him and his mobility
Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) - Done
Jim Sorgi (NYG) - Done
Kellen Clemens (NYJ) - Could maybe be salvageable
Kyle Boller (OAK) - I think he resigned with OAK
Bruce Gradkowski (OAK) - Gritty gamer, fun to watch, poor man's Jeff Garcia, might end up in Seattle
Dennis Dixon (PIT) - PIT will probably resign
Billy Volek (SD) - Spot starter, don't think he fits the Shanny Offense
Troy Smith (SF) - Spot starter at best
Kerry Collins (TEN) - will probably be resigned by TEN
Rex Grossman (WAS) - Shanny wants to bring him back
Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) - Rumor has it the Redskins are targeting him
Matt Moore (CAR) - Probably out now with Newton there, has some tools, is young, maybe sign him?
Matt Leinart (HOU) - The Kubiak/Shanny connection, maybe he can resurrect his career, has some tools, I think he was forced out in AZ

I've said it before, Vince Young. The sooner FA starts, the likelier it is Young. If FA starts later, Beck will have a shot to start along with Grossman.

They won't go Vince Young, I don't care what your insider says...doesn't fit the team culture Shannahan is trying to build within the locker room. He is a cancer like Haynesworth. He won't put in the time much like McNabb didn't put in the time.

Rex and Beck competition, Luck or Barkley in 2012. There is no quick fix here. The fact is you aren't getting a franchise QB in free agency or trade. All that does is create more building. We will live with a year of horrendous QB play with two guys the coaches are familliar with. The only way to get a franchise QB is to draft one and we didn't like any of the guys this year. The fact is years of neglecting the draft has left us with by far the worst roster in the NFL. We aren't making the playoffs any time soon, but at least we are starting to build this team so that whenever we get a competent QB there will be some pieces there.

I think Luck would makes more sense, he seems to have better mobility and can do alot of the things Shanny likes. Next year's draft should be a lot deeper at the position.

I don't think Grossman would be terrible, he knows the system and has a huge arm, judging from the draft and the RBs selected it seems that Shanny wants to run the hell out of the ball. They could go 8-8 with Rexy.

They couldn't and didn't turn down Jacksonville's offer. They turned the pick they got to move down 6 spots into 6 picks that were ultimately 5.

The third rounder they got from Miami turned into Leonard Hankerson.
The fourth rounder they from Houston turned into Roy Helu, Jr.
The fifth rounder from Miami resulted in DeJon Gomes.
The sixth rounder from Houston resulted in Aldrick Robinson.
The 7th round pick from Miami resulted in Maurice Hurt.
The 7th round pick from Indianapolis resulted in Markus White.

Now tell me, would you want those players or stay at 10 and take Gabbert or Dalton (since he was picked before their 2nd round pick.)

Which would be the worst possible situation. If we have say the 13th pick next year, I'll trade all 7 draft picks and a future pick for Andrew Luck. I am not exaggerating Andrew Luck IMO is the best QB prospect easily since Carson Palmer, and you can argue Peyton Manning. He has an Aaron Rodgers skill set with a Matt Ryan brain. I know these are ridiculous claims but trust me I don't throw around prospect praise like this ever. His only knock is he doesn't have a Jamarcus Russell cannon but it's still pretty damn good. I've seen him throw it 55 yards while falling forward without being able to twist his torso into the throw.

Totally agree with the praise on Luck even Kiper has said he is the next Peyton. That's definitely the reason why Shannahan is starting the Beck hype which is hilarious, trying to pretend that we're not going to tank the season. Now by that I don't mean that they are purposely trying to lose every game but they are setting themselves up for Luck this way for sure. Only problem is that if a team drafting #1 doesn't have a franchise QB which is often the case, it's going to cost a ton if they are even willing to pass on Luck.

All depends on how long the labor dispute goes on for.

Lasts until september=very short training camp so why bother with a free agent to learn the shanny playbook and they roll with Beck and Grossman is brought back.
If its sorted earlier in the summer then the fun will begin.

Then there is always McNabb if they cant get good value for him.

p.s. is our new nose tackle Amish?

Now tell me, would you want those players or stay at 10 and take Gabbert or Dalton (since he was picked before their 2nd round pick.)
Thats all great in hindsight. You were touting both those players to the Skins as guys the Redskins coveted which obviously they weren't. Im glad they got depth, but prior to all the draft day trades you were selling either Dalton or Gabbert to the skins as pretty much a sure thing which is why I will take the VY to the Skins with a grain of salt.

You DO know things change during the draft, don't you? Players they think will be there are gone, etc. But fine. I won't post anything anymore.

I know these are ridiculous claims but trust me I don't throw around prospect praise like this ever. His only knock is he doesn't have a Jamarcus Russell cannon but it's still pretty damn good. I've seen him throw it 55 yards while falling forward without being able to twist his torso into the throw.
Haha, I get it, Luck is the real deal and I too think he's worth gambling all of your picks to get him, no joke. Palmer didn't look very good until Pete & Chow got to SC and I'd say that Luck looks like a better prospect. He's doing it with a lot more junk surrounding him. Luck is worth the price of admission and just seems like one of those good kids. If Locker is worth the 8th pick...man...

By the way, I remember that you called Arian Foster last year. I'm hitting you up for "sleepers" this year...

Yea I am aware things change but you seemed real confident that Dalton was going to be a redskin...if a team likes a player they will find a way to draft him. My mistake for believing you. I still doubt VInce Young becomes a redskin

Skins have 3 out of the 14 "steals"!

Leonard Hankerson/WR/Washington/Round 3/No. 79: Hankerson's inconsistency and untimely drops pushed him into the third round, yet he possesses the physical skills to be a productive second wide out on the NFL level. He will immediately help the receiver needy Redskins.

Roy Helu/RB/Washington/Round 4/No. 105: Helu was the second skill player the Redskins chose in round four. He's a triple threat running back who will compete for the starting position.

Chris Neild/NT/Washington/Round 7/No. 253: The fact Neild was the second-to-last player selected is mind-blowing. He's a 320-pound slugger who brings his lunch pail to work every day and is a prospect coaches will love. Don't be surprised if he's starting by the end of his rookie season.
