Well, to specify! The DL is a 4-3 1-gapper that utilizes a NT, a 3-tech UT, and small pass-rushing DE's. No clue on the aggressiveness of the LB's, but that should be dependant on the effectiveness of the Front 4 in creating pressure. DB's should be classic Tampa 2.
You need to look at some old Bucs threads....

Kiffin doesn't use small pass rushing DEs. Rice & Adams (RDE) are both 6'5" 265ish. The LDE is usually more of a specialized run stopper like Greg Spires, Kevin Carter, Marques Douglas, DeWayne White, etc. On passing downs the LDE usually comes off and gets replaced by a smaller pass rush specialist. Pressure is supposed to come from the RDE mainly with help from the UT and LE. Those 3 should have the highest sack numbers. The MLB and CB blitz occasionally, but the goal of the defense is to get pressure from the front 4.

The MLB drops off the farthest and covers that middle seam area underneath and between the 2 safeties. The depth might change, however, considering the drop-off in arm strength in college QBs and the range of a guy like Eric Berry.

To run the defense effectively you need good pass rushing RDE & UT. NT & LDE that can stack against the run. LBs that flow and cover well. CBs aren't that important but you need a guy who can cover the slot in nickel. Safeties should be smart and have range. SS needs some size to run blitz effectively.

San Diego State is implementing a 3-3-5 defensive scheme with their new defensive coordinator, btw. Suppose to be pretty blitz happy.

South Carolina played a 4-2-5 last year. Probably will this year again unless Johnson doesn't like depth at linebacker or safety.

Alabama runs a defensive coverage scheme so camouflaged & distracting that not even the defensive assts. know wtf they're running...... J/K, but with Nick Saban it's all about disguising coverages, similar to the defense he ran at LSU. It's a modified 3-4 that will rotate DLs in & always free at least one LB &/or a safety or CB to use their footspeed advantage to go after the QB on passing situations.

No more roverbacks as such, like when Joe Kines was the Tide DC, roverbacks were very trendy for awhile in the SEC & elsewhere 5-8 yrs ago, Brian Urlacher btw played the New Mexico version of it in college called the "Loboback."

Since when? Or are you joking? The reason I ask is because Ohio State mainly runs Cover 2 and Cover 3 zone defenses.

I can tell you right now, that's a huge reason why they lost the NC game to Florida a couple years ago. Chris Leak was seriously one of the worst quarterbacks under pressure I have ever seen in my life, and tOSU just rushed four on every play and let him pick them apart underneath. They were getting no pressure at all, and their linebackers weren't doing anything in coverage underneath.
