Yeah this guy is totally right, the Lions should have driven a really hard bargain and had Stafford hold out until preseason game 3 so they could MAYBE save a couple of million dollars over the life of the contract. That would have been the very smartest thing to do. Then they could have a guaranteed bust who never got off on the right foot with the organization like Jamarcus Russell... but HEY they'd only be paying him $39.5 million guaranteed! Oh and by the way they would still have people calling them the laughingstock of the league for not being able to get their #1 pick franchise QB in camp on time.
In short, this article and all like it are ridiculous. Anyone who kicks off an article on Stafford by talking about the economy of Detroit and the car companies is a clueless moron who has no knowledge of the Lions' ownership situation. Get this nonsense out of here.

Who gives a f what some stupid blog in Missouri thinks. Wait, what state's teams had both the #2 and #3 picks in the draft? Jealous much? |

With this article being a bit out there. It may be worth mentioning that Charlie Casserely (ex-GM) predicted the guarantees for Stafford to be anywhere between 40 and 45 million. It really wasn't that high if an (ex-) GM can do the math so that even tv-viewers can get it.
But as said above, the article is rediculous. I don't really understand what it's point is. If the Lions FO was driven by desperation or fan desires, they would have drafted Curry instead. Or Jason Smith. Those were the favourites of the casual Lions fans.

there is no credible argument in that article. just a bunch of fearful 'what-ifs' about the top rated QB in this past draft. that amount of money is what a number 1 QB gets. we have culpepper to hold down the fort for atleast a year, so he can have a year to adjust to the pressure.
you don't get better by continually passing on franchise QBs in the draft. |
