Melky Cabrera is absolutely killing it, as of late.

I completely loathed the trade when it happened and now I'm stuffing the All-Star ballot for him. Never thought I would be doing that. What type of contract should they try to extend him to. Fangraphs projected a 3yr/$24 million deal. That seems like a bargain.

Seems about right for him having two great seasons (assuming he ends this season well). He's leading the league in multi-hit games and is on pace to have 240+ hits. Pretty badass.

Think how much more dangerous the Giant's lineup will be when they get Pablo and Freddy back in there.

I'm really hoping it's WS Champions kind of worthy. :) Panda will keep on slugging but Freddy will likely have some rust.

Giants draft RHP Chris Stratton from Mississippi State.
Quote:
The 6’3″ 200-pound Stratton was undrafted out of high school, but since then he has developed into one of the Southeastern Conference’s best pitchers, which is saying something when you consider the level of competition there. His accomplishments were validated when he was voted SEC pitcher of the year by the managers in the confrence.
Stratton features a 91-94 mph that can touch 96 with life down in the zone. His best pitch is probably his hard slider that allowed him to rack up well over a strikeout per inning this season. He also throws an average curveball and a change-up that could be above average in time. The biggest knock on Stratton is his command and control which at times has been spotty, and given his age (22) he has a little less time than most college juniors to work things out while still maintaining his prospect status.
|
Also, nice 4 game sweep of the Cubs!

Good value at 20 for where they nabbed Stratton. He was only there as teams went with more HS pitchers early and up-the-middle position players. He may be ready to bring up around the time that Zito leaves town, assuming he stays that long.
I broke out my broom yesterday! The Cubs are a bad team but they had been winning a lot coming into the series vs the Giants.
Panda starts his minor league rehab assignment today but there is the lingering report that he is being investigated for sexual assault from an event last week. Hope that turns out well and he didn't f*** up.

Two things I thought I would never see as a Giants fan: World Series win and a Perfect Game. Cheers to Matt FN Cain!!!!!!!!
Loved this article Jon Heyman retweeted from after the Giants WS run that basically called the Giants pitching overrated. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/1...ood-as-billed/

With Matt Cain closing in on the 22nd perfect game in major league history, and the first in the Giants’ 129 years as a franchise, Belt sat down in the dugout after the seventh inning to take a deep breath.
“I sat down and Cainer just stopped and stared at me,” said Belt, whose eyes grew wide with panic. “Yeah, I guess everything was OK until I sat in his seat.”

This is making my preseason prediction of Matt Cain as the Cy Young winner look even stronger. Epic game! He deserved it.
Still can't believe Lincecum is in a funk and that they might bench him. It only helps me knowing that MadBum and Cainer are the two that are signed to long term deals, where we will look to avoid another Zito-esque contract.

How about that shutout, series sweep over the Dodgers? Sweet. Timmy even decided to show up yesterday. Let's hope he gets rolling now.

4 straight games without giving up a run...even without Cain pitching.

First place with several All Stars is where the G's deserve to be! I was in town and saw the first of the sweep shutout series live against the Dodgers last week. EPIC! Dodger fans were all harping on Zito before the game (as he'd come off his worst start of the year) but I had jokingly noted that he would do well as he his arm was rested from only pitching 3 innings the game before. LOL. Glad he chose to bounce back at my only AT&T Park trip (before playoffs) this season.

Dammit, Lincecum sucks again. At least he isn't signed to a lifetime contract ... yet.

Well. at this rate, I don't see why the Giants would rush it. They have him signed to a $20M contract next year and I don't see how they could give him a Can or Zito like deal if this all they see for a whole season (should that happen). They have already bought time into next year through an offseason to see if he can right the ship. I'm thinking Posey gets his extension before Timmy at this point.

The MLB All-Star Game was owned by the Giants! Matt Cain, with the Win on 2 shutout innings, Buster Posey had a run and was solid as always, Pablo Sandoval had the first 3RBI triple in ASG history and Melky "The Melk Man" Cabrera takes home the MVP from his with 2 hit (including a HR) performance!
Glad the boys got the job done for the NL as they know they're going to appreciate homefield advantage for the World Series!

The Dodgers paid us back for the shutout sweep with a sweep of their own at AT&T Park, drawing even fir first place. Dammit.
I don't think Hanley will put them over the top but they did get him via trade on the cheap IMO. Other than his contract, its a pretty low-risk, high reward move for them. I would have rather the Giants roll the dice but Hanley is a proven quitter, so he'll fit well with in LA.
With the trade deadline a day away and the Giants only picking up Scutaro from Colorado in exchange for Culberson the other day, I see them making at least one more move. They are linked mostly to RP Brandon League from Seattle and either Pence of Victorino from Philly. I'm totally on the Pence train and Philly needs a catching prospect badly to back up Ruiz; which happens to be the position that the Giants have the most minor league depth in. Tommy Joseph and a couple other dudes should deliver Pence, who would be more than a rent-a-player. Great trade for the Giants for this year and in the future. I'm already on record that they should have targeted Pence instead of Beltran last year.

#SFGiants acquire 2-time All-Star Hunter Pence from Philadelphia in exchange for Nate Schierholtz, Tommy Joseph and Seth Rosen

Here is the line-up I would love to see:
1: Pagan/Blanco
2. Belt
3. Melky
4. Posey
5. Pence
6. Panda
7. Crawford
8. Theriot

Got heeeem! The San Francisco Giants trade for Hunter Pence is minor league catcher Tommy Joseph, Nate Schierholtz and Single-A RHP Seth Rosin. Sad to see Bay Area native Nate go but his time with the Giants was done. This is the move they should have made last year instead of Beltran.

You like Belt in the 2 hole and no Scutaro? Not sure about that.
I'll go with:
1: Pagan/Blanco
2. Melky
3. Pence
4. Panda
5. Posey
6. Belt
7. Scutaro/Theriot
8. Crawford
With Pence, Panda and Posey all being interchangeable, depending on circumstance.
