It'd be useful to know what kinds of processing you did on the vocals and what program you're using to record and mix. The guitar to vocals volume ratio is way off.
I used Cubase LE4 for mixing. I'm still pretty new to it. The problem with the vocals/guitar (rhythm at least) is that they were recorded on the same track because he found it easier to sing that way. I added reverb to the vocals, if you are familiar with Cubase I could get more specific if you are interested.
Record the rhythm first then have him do vocals over that. Having an individual vocal track is hugely important.
Yeah, I know, and that's what we tried at first but he is literally just starting out singing and all I have are ****** Wal-Mart headphones so it's harder to get into the song that way, so we had to work with just one track.
I understand, just know that moving forward. I remember what a ***** recording was when I started doing it. You need to get into the time-honored tradition of befriending every single musician you meet, even if they're assholes. The ability to ask them questions as well as borrow their gear is a big help.

Does anydody know how to use this or have any experience with drum machines? I recently picked this up at a garage sell for the low price of free and i cant figure out how to simply record. It would be nice to be able to make my own patterns so I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Met sox thats because Mike Portnoy is the new drummer and is the ******* man. AX7 is poopy tho, and he should go back to dream theater because I heart them.

That song was actually one of the last (if not the last) recorded by the rev before his death. Idk if they've released anything with Portnoy yet.
edit -
nvm, after some quick wiki work, the drum parts were written by the rev but were in fact recorded by portnoy.

I just started playing guitar 6 months ago (ukulele for over 2 years). I've been playing my roommates Squier for the past 6 months and I want to buy my first guitar. I wanted a semi-hollow with a bigsby and a cutaway and I stumbled upon this...
I'm just starting to learn guitar. Any tips? Right now I'm just working on some basic chords (Em, D, E, G, A, C..)
Just put the time in. I'm still learning, but bar chords are the way to go in terms of learning scales and such. I was started with the G major and minor pentatonic and learned how to move around there. I'm not where I want to be, but I'll get there. Funny cause I always wanted to play bass, but started with guitar, so I'm going to master that before I jump onto yet another instrument.

Just starting off, get comfortable with the basics. Major and minor chords, chord transitions. Major and minor scales and major pentatonic scales. There are endless scales and modes for guitar, those can come later if you want to get into all that. I kinda depends on what kind of music you want to play on guitar also.
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years so if you have any questions, feel free to fire away.
