NFL Mock Draft - Pool B
We held a quick 2 hour mock draft on Memorial Day with 9 teams.
QB, RB, WR, WR, RB/WR, TE
3-4 Defense or 4-3 Defense
The idea was to build a franchise from scratch that would go on forever (not necessarily to try win the Superbowl immediately).
Teams are separated into 3 Pools (grouped by draft order).
Considering the idea behind this mock, vote for the one you think is best. Some teams have chosen to build 3-4 Defenses versus 4-3 Defenses. Consider the system and the players that fit in their defense when you judge.
All votes will be tallied on Friday 12PM on the NFLDC Time Clock to determine the winner of each Pool.
************************************************** ***********
Team 1:
QB Peyton Manning
RB Edgerrin james
WR Reggie Wayne/Antwaan Randle El/Chad Jackson
TE Antonio Gates
DE Bertrand Berry/Manny Lawson
DT Corey Simon/Brodrick Bunkley
OLB Takeo Spikes/Chad Greenway
MLB Brian Urlacher
CB Patrick Surtain/Fred Smoot
S Michael Boulware/Tony Parrish
Team 2:
QB Eli Manning
RB Shaun Alexander/Willie Parker
WR Steve Smith/Anquan Boldin
TE Jason Witten
DE Mario Williams/Robert Mathis
DT Igor Olshansky/Haloti Ngata
OLB Lance Briggs/Derrick Johnson
MLB Lofa Tatupu
CB DeAngelo Hall/Chris Gamble
S Mike Doss/Michael Lewis
Team 3:
QB Carson Palmer
RB Clinton Portis/Tiki Barber
WR Terrell Owens/Andre Johnson
TE Tony Gonzales
DE John Henderson/Jevon Kearse
NT Maake Keomatu
OLB Jason Taylor/Terrell Suggs
ILB Dan Morgan/Odell Thurman
CB Terrance Newman/Marcus Trufant
S Deon Grant/Darren Sharper
* Remember: The idea was to build a franchise from scratch that would go on forever (not necessarily to try win the Superbowl immediately). ...and consider defensive player fits in each system (3-4 and 4-3).

Team 2 blows the other two away. Team 1 has too many Colts and former Colts with a weak secondary. Team 3 having Kevin Kearse play DE in the 3-4 is ridiculous. Team 2 has ten times the defense of the other two, and quite possibly the best offense for the long haul.

I went with team 2, but it certainly doesnt blow the other 2 away. I just like the defense they put together, though the offense aint bad.

I think all 3 have flaws...
1) I'd be worried about Mannings decline, and the fact that a few of the players are unproven and/or injury prone...
2) Front four is the biggest question mark I've seen in a long time...
3) A few of the players are on the decline and Kearse isn't a 3-4 DE... maybe if he added some weight...

#1 has a really good defense, but that receiving corps is not the greatest. I agree with #2, a lot of unproven guys. I think #3 could be better on defense with less old, injury-prone guys.
I voted for #2. Other than the D-Line, it's not too bad.

None of these 3 are as impressive as pool C, but team 2 looks like they will be good for a long time. Team 3 has a horrible 3-4. Team 1 is good, but 2 looks better for the future.

If you wanted to win a superbowl right away it would easily be team 3. But since it's a franchise, team 2 gets my nod.

Team 2 over Team 3 barely. Jevon Kearse is NOT a 3-4 DE.

That's an error. Don't know why they haven't noticed yet; it's been there for awhile.

I wonder who's been voting for 1, since no one has replied with that as their choice.

I guess it really depends what kind of fish you're talking about, the size of said fish, and what you whack it against
