it's funny to me that Cain works at a BBY because I do too, and he's basically saying all the same things I would suggest haha

You should both suggest that under no circumstance should he actually purchase it from Best Buy :)
While I like the Best Buy, you can find pretty much everything they sell for less somewhere else haha.

HP Pavilion DV4. The screen is a bit smaller than I'm sure you'd like. But its extremely inexpensive. And trust me it gets the job done. Just make sure you remove HP's 4GB of vendor software. :/

Oh, I am buying this bad boy online. No way I am purchasing it in store, you would have to be a moron. I am leaning towards the vaio or the asus right now. I am going to do a little more research and decide. I am leaning vaio because 4 hours is plenty of battery for me and the extra processing power is more important to me than additional battery life. Thanks a lot guys!

The Vaio NW240 you linked to is $730 at Newegg. Best buy has NW270's for $700. They sell the NW240 for $650.
A few weeks ago, I bought an FW510 from them for $650. As far as I could tell, best buy had the best prices on computers by far.
To the OP: The main knock on the Sony's is price. They are very nice computers. When I looked at all the different brands in person, the decision was easy. I suggest you do the same and just keep your eyes out for a deal.

Just want to give this a quick bump because I'm in the market for a new laptop with a similar price range. Any suggestions from the more technically inclined would be appreciated.

if you don't game, don't watch movies on it, but just browse the internet and watch porn, I would just suggest a decent netbook, then spend the extra cash on an external drive so you can back up the files you download if you're into that kind of thing and a wired mouse because netbooks don't really have a worthwhile mouse

I watch a good amount of stuff, (don't really game), and do a good amount of work on it.

I bought my Asus laptop less than a year ago for around $550 and am loving it. If you can find one similar, I'd recommend it (2.13 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive, 4.7 hours of battery).

This makes me happy in the pants because I've been working towards purchasing an Asus laptop for several months now. The one I want (forget what model) supposedly has like 9-10 hours of tested battery life. That's a lot of free-roam fapping and compooping.

This perhaps? If you did a lot of typing it would get annoying though. I'm not even a Mac guy so I dont know why I am recommending it.

I would either go with a Dell Inspiron or a Sony Vaio. I am currently using a MacBook Pro, but that is obviously out of your price range.
Also, if you can afford it, Lenovo makes a pretty decent laptop.

If you want a windows machine, I'll go with Lenovo Thinkpads. Those things are little tanks.

Just a warning. I've had bad experience with HP. Their printers and monitors and what not are all nice, haven't had a problem with those, but their laptops are horrid. I would look at something else.
