Anyway, another attractive piece is Seattle having TWO first round picks in the Top 20.

Heh, Taylor/Bulaga/Gerhart with picks 1a, 1b, 2. Not a bad start to a campaign. I'm not huge on Gerhart but Pete probably is after getting slapped around by him.

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will interview for the Seahawks job in Minneapolis Saturday, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Frazier may have initially balked at the interview because it appeared that it was only being conducted to get Rooney Rule requirements out of the way.

While many will criticize this as a "sham" interview, that ignores the reality that a deal between Carroll and the Seahawks could still fall apart for a variety of reasons.

Frazier is allowed to interview for jobs this week only because the Vikings are on a bye. He interviewed for the Bills head coaching job Thursday.

Hasn't Frazier been talked about for several years for getting a shot at head coach? I think most of the defensive personnel would suit his scheme.
I'm not sure why Carroll would give up what he's got at USC to go to a rebuilding job like Seattle. Unless something huge might come up to jeopardize his job.

Carroll would ruin his only legacy. USC will move on successfully with or without him. Quickly at that.

Report: Carroll close to five-year, $35m deal

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reports that Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are "close to a deal" that would pay Carroll $35 million over the next five seasons to be Seattle's coach and team president.

I gotta give it to PFT. They've continually upped the quality of their rumors.

If this goes through, it's a sad day for USC, but they'll be ok.

There's an update in that link that says Carroll agreed to the 5 year deal.

Well I guess this is partly the reason that the Seahawks hired him without a GM in place yet, he's going to have some sort of power just anxious to see exactly how much.

It's not a bad fit really, who knows when or if a team moves to LA, this may of been a deal he liked and it's close to California anyway...They need to figure out if they like any of these QB's this year, or just rebuild elsewhere and find their guy next year but LT and QB are glaring needs with RB right up there too(well, they need alot of positions filled but those stick out especially for an offensive guy).

All jokes aside, trying to trade for Leinart wouldn't be a bad idea at all especially if Norm Chow joins him like some recent rumors I've read, but the longer people wait to strike a deal the older Warner gets and less sense it makes for AZ.

Doubt they want to try and find another future QB late in the 1st who they would have to develop from scratch again, but the right offer/package could make some sense if Warner plays 2 more seasons.

He recruited Jimmy Clausen heavily out of high school so he may look there.

Mortenson is saying that they've been talking to Carroll for weeks and once they felt the deal was as good as done they fired Mora. If Carroll wasn't interested Mora would be back with the Seahawks next year.

I thought Norm Chow hated Carroll?

Carroll is the Calipari of CFB. So sad the the coaches can get away with so much yet have so little tied to them. Schools get hammered and the coaches move on to other pastures. Plausible deniability.

However, I can't say I feel sorry for USC as the whole AD has been looking the other way and covering up some serious high dollar shenanigans for years. So many other schools when the heat gets high perform internal investigations and then sanction themselves. The NCAA lets that go for the most part. USC however has been taunting them for years. They will not go easy methinks.

How is Carroll the Calipari of college football? Wasn't USC his only head coaching job in college? This hasn't been a habit with him like with Calipari.

As much as I hate USC, I'd cut Carroll some slack on bailing. His run at USC wasn't going to last forever. He's been there for some time now and I think has always been bitter about the way his NFL career went.

Carroll ran into the same problem that I see Urban Meyer running into (assuming his health checks out). The expectations for the program have gotten too great. Each and every year it's National Championship or bust, and that's unfair to put on any coach. I don't blame Carroll for leaving.

Face it, he left for the money and the challenge but the money came 1st.
He'll likely have total control of the organization including the draft which very few HC's have been able to handle. IMO, it is a huge gamble on Seattle's part. Now we'll have to see how it will workout.

I don't like the idea of Carroll having any type of say in FO decisions. There have been several veteran NFL coaches that could not handle coaching duties and FO duties when they served in a similar capacity (Shanahan, Holmgren, etc...). Now a college coach, no matter how successful, is going to be given similar duties to a franchise that needs to be rebuilt. This will more than likely not turn out the way the Seahawks would have liked. Remember what happened to successful college coaches Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, and Bobby Petrino? I have a feeling the same thing will happen to Carroll.

Pete Carroll won't ever be a good NFL head coach, his style of coaching and his personality is far more suited to the college level.

It's sounding like as soon as they satisfy the Rooney rule it will be done.
