So if Nebraska and Mizzou leave, plus maybe say Kansas, to the Big XI. Plus the Pac 10 steals someone like Colorado plus 1 (or all 3?) of Boise St./Utah/BYU. That leaves the Big 12 with potentially only 8 or 9 teams, while the Big XI has 14, Pac 10 has 12 or 14 teams, and the SEC with 12. The Big 12 could add TCU, but who else that would make geographic and financial sense? Maybe if the PAC 10 adds only Colorado and Boise, the Big 12 would have 9 teams left and could add TCU, BYU, and Utah to get back to 12. But the Big XI and Pac 10 are really leading the exploration in expansion, so if the Big 12 has to wait and see there might be no one good left.
The Big Ten is looking at add major programs while the PAC 10 is looking at mid majors... the Big Ten Network gives the Big Ten Conference an unbelievable amount of sway in this whole discussion. They are making so much more money on TV than any other conference... it's a complete joke

Yes, exactly. If the Big XI leads the way, someone (PAC 10, Big 12, maybe SEC?) will inevitably get anxious and force an expansion. The Big XI really has a ridiculous amount of power/control in shaping the future of college athletics as they can pretty much do what they want right now.

If have of the Big XII were to leave then that would only leave Iowa State, Colorado, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, and Texas Tech. I could see Colorado going to the PAC 10 if they wanted to expand. The Mountain West might jump at inviting Texas Tech, Kansas, and Kansas State. Iowa State and Baylor would then probably go to C-USA or something.

Yea, if the Big XI expands, and especially if other conferences follow suit quickly, I really don't see anyway the Big 12 can stay intact. They would be pretty much doomed unless they only lose 2 teams to the Big XI and none to the SEC, and can replace those 2 with Utah/TCU/BYU.

I hate that all of this restructuring will end the regional feel and pride to all these conferences. You're going to have people from NJ, Nebraska, and Minnesota all taking pride in the same conference. You're really going to lose that regional rivalry.

The Big East features New Jersey, Florida, and Ohio. The ACC has Massachussetts and Florida. The WAC has Idaho, Hawaii, and Louisiana.

This is nothing new

Well it started a bit a few years ago. But this would put it over the top. I have no problem with the WAC. They have to do what they have to do when other conferences poach their schools. I also have no problem with the ACC having Florida either. Boston is a joke though. And this Big East basically had to do the same thing as the WAC, and they're a joke of a football conference anyway.

I dunno, maybe it's just the history of the Big 10 and the midwest. It's just a shame this is the way it's going.

We really lost geographic pride in the Big Ten as soon as Penn State joined.

Yeah but that wasn't that bad. Now you'd be expanding on both ends. East and South.

I think this would be a bad move for Rutgers. Financially it makes a ton of sense and that's what it's all about, but it going to hurt them in the win column.

If Schiano can keep bringing in guys like Savage and Sanu, they'll be fine. I'd like Rutgers so the Big Ten has another pro style offense

It might hurt them in the win column, but it will help them in terms of exposure and prestige. If Rutgers gets an invite over other Big East schools like Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Connecticut, and West Virginia, that's a huge recruiting advantage. Simply being in the Big Ten will legitimize Rutgers more making a crappy Big East bowl ever will.

I think recruiting could be a bit more difficult though. Pretty much the Big 10 schools and Notre Dame have always been able to go into NJ and get their big recruits when they wanted to. If you have Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State coming to New Brunswick and winning big, that will only continue, maybe even more.

Schiano is spreading out more and more as the years go on. It takes time to build a program up from garbage which is where Rutgers was. It could set us back a couple of years but we'll be fine. The bottom of the Big Ten doesn't scare anyone. Rutgers could easily go into most of those places and win. They'd be a middle of the road Big Ten team right now I think.

I know. That pisses me off. Continuing to get players the big Florida schools pass on while letting our own states talent go all over the country. He's done well the last few years though. I just find it hard to see them taking the next step anytime soon, especially in the Big 14 if this comes true. If I was a big time football recruit in NJ, I couldn't say I'd want to go to Rutgers either.

NJ has a lot of big recruits this year so we'll so how that goes. He still gets players that do have offers from bigger name schools.

Haha yeah I agree with this one. I'm not sure what current Big 10 team they'd be better than. Idiana? They certainly wouldn't be better than the other teams potentially coming in with them.

Using last year as a barometer Rutgers could have finished ahead of Indiana, Michigan, Minny, Illinois, Purdue, and Michigan State. Like I said middle of the road. Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin would have killed us.

I would say Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan last year. I think they could right off the bat finish consistently above those first two schools, thats about it.

Please don't come into our thread and insult us like that. Let's look at common opponents.

Rutgers vs. Cincinnati (15-47)
Illinois vs. Cincinnati (36-49)

Rutgers vs. Syracuse (13-31)
Minnesota vs. Syracuse (23-20)
Northwestern vs. Syracuse (34-37)

Not much to go off of mind you, but I'm not sure where you get off saying you would easily go into any place and beat a Big Ten team. Last season you beat absolutely nobody worth a crap.
