If a third is all they're looking for, how many teams wouldn't offer one for Boldin?
I have a hard time believing he'll be traded for just a third round pick.

I love that the Raiders value their long snapper as much as their starting quarterback and more than their starting middle linebacker. Shrewd

A 3rd for Boldin is a steal... I know ATL wouldn't do it but I would love that trade.

I think the new contract they will need to give him (this is his last year on his current one) and a bit of an injury history pushes his value down.
Still I think you are right, the list of teams that wouldn't want him for a third is probably shorter than the one for those that would.

If I was the Colts or the Cowboys I would try very hard to get Jared Gaither. A 1st round pick for him (especially a later one) is a bargain. I'm very surprised at that tender.

For a third round pick it might not even be completely ridiculous to get him as a one year rental. If a team thinks they can win the Super Bowl with the addition of a pro bowl WR it could be worth it. Think of it like a baseball trade kind of. What team this would be I'm not exactly sure. Perhaps the Cowboys? Boldin, Witten, and Austin could be deadly.

I'm sure the Ravens are planning to match the offer if a team tries to sign him.

It must stem from injury concerns.

Me too. Then again, dude is approaching 30, always injured, looking for a huge contract, and Breaston is ready to replace him and capable of it. Why they didn't cash in when they could of got a 1st and more I don't know.
If I'm Baltimore I'm all over that asap and trying to seal the deal. He makes the most sense for them, while he's not as young as Marshall or as good he's alot cheaper, and improves the team while Ray is still there.

I don't see why they didn't just do a 1st and 3rd round tender, but I agree they would match anything pretty quickly too, but he'd be well worth our 1st and probably more.

I don't think there ever were any first round offers for him last year. The highest I think was a 3rd (maybe 2nd) reportedly from Chicago. In the end he was affordable and they probably wanted to take another shot with Kurt. Now that he is gone and its Boldin's last year trading him makes much more sense, especially since last years WRs in the draft over this years WRs in the draft so the market might be a little better for him.

Maybe his injury is going to linger/reoccur because at that price I think any mid to late first round team should take a shot at him. Especially GB, NE, AR, Indy.

Via Rotoworld.com:
The Rams are reportedly "seriously considering" placing the lowest possible tender on restricted free agent FS O.J. Atogwe.
"The tender is called "right of first refusal," and would allow St. Louis to match any offer sheet Atogwe receives, but give the team no draft pick in return. The designation would also cost the Rams $5.75 million less than giving Atogwe a typically mandated 10-percent raise on his 2009 salary ($6.976 million). It could also create a lot of bad blood between the team and player."
Source: http://interact.stltoday.com/blogzon...er-for-atogwe/
This shocked me quite a bit. One of the only good players STL has. Why wouldn't they want to retain him at any cost? I would LOVE for the Phins to go after this guy if he does indeed hit the market.

I have some serious doubts about the rumor that ARI is shopping Boldin for a 3rd. Seems like there'd be about 31 teams that would do that.
Guess they should have taken #48 last year when we offered it.

I've read that the Patriots are also considering (also on the news). I wouldn't mind getting one of the Pats second rounders and drafting a guy like Benn or a WR who falls if that is the position that the Bears are looking to improve. Boldin, while better than anything we have, is also 29 and I cannot see him having good value (be 30 when signs a big contract) down the road. I'd take the guy who has all the physical tools that we can develop. That's only if that is the position we are looking to upgrade. Otherwise BPA at OL or FS.

If the Steelers do not resign Ryan Clark, don't be surprised to see Darren Sharper a Pittsburgh Steeler.

New England, too. Mankins should be a lock the highest tender.

Side note: If I am the Pats with my million picks in the second round I would definitely offer my third for Boldin. When Welker gets back that receiving core would be ridiculous.
|
At this point I would not mind one bit if the Pats used their 1st round pick on a rushbacker and traded a couple of the second rounders.
22 - OLB
43 - Greg Olsen
47 - OLine
53 - Boldin and maybe get 4th or 5th in return?
no 3rd round pick b/c of trades, but Olsen, Boldin, 1st, 2nd, and two 4ths would be a nice offseason.

How would Bodden get a tender when he's a UFA?

Evidently the Raiders might cut RB Justin Fargas and DT Gerald Warren prior to there bonuses.
Fargas would be a nice 3rd down back. I like his game.

Carlos Rogers is running his mouth now that hes gotten a tender in hopes that the Skins will try to trade him...this guy whines like none other and he thinks hes better than he is.
Philadelphia wide receiver DeSean Jackson beat Rogers on a double-move for a 57-yard touchdown in Washington's Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. And then in a Week 10 victory over the Denver Broncos, Rogers struggled again against a double-move. On the Broncos' first possession, wide receiver Brandon Marshall burned Rogers with a double-move for a 40-yard score.
Redskins coaches instantly benched Rogers for the remainder of the game in favor of fellow veteran corner Fred Smoot. Smoot started the following week in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but Rogers regained his position with the first-team and started every game last season except against the Cowboys.
In speaking with a reporter about his situation at the time, Rogers essentially said he had been treated fairly and would hold no grudges. In a phone interview Wednesday night, however, Rogers said he was being less than truthful at the time about his feelings.
"We played 90 percent man [coverage] this season. We were out there in man most of the time," Rogers said. "Okay, so I got beat on some double-moves. I mean, I get beat on some double-moves, when most of the time we're in man, and then I'm benched? What?"
Rogers said former secondary coach Jerry Gray remained supportive of him when others coaches were not. In fact, Rogers was especially upset about how former head coach Jim Zorn treated him after the benching.
"You get benched, and then next week you come back and say you have to see if you're even gonna dress your starter? Not even saying, 'Let's see how he practices and let him work his way in.' Watch me and practice and see if I'm gonna dress?"
Nothing against the new regime, but Rogers said he would prefer to play elsewhere.
"That's why I'm saying, there's just so much stuff that they done done that I just ... you think about you want a new start," Rogers said. "It's not even Coach [Mike] Shanahan's fault. It's not the fault of any of these new coaches. It's just previous things. It's a lot of things."
