Default Stock Watch: Week Two

In case you missed it:
Stock Watch: Week One

Stock Up:

1. Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon - There was high praise for this group of WRs heading into the start of the season. A group that includes an eye popping amount of talent at the position eligible for the draft. Fourteen (14) straight 100 yard games. Unheard of. 20 catches for 272 yards and 2 TDs in 2 games for 2-0 Oklahoma State. Have enough of the 2's yet?

2. Florida International WR T.Y. Hilton - You look around the country and you think to yourself, 'Wow, that player is the team.' Well, it's never been more true than for Florida International. Not only has Hilton led, and I mean led in every definition, the Panthers to a 2-0 start, he has put himself in a great position to be drafted in April. And it's only Week Two. Solidifying himself as a slot receiver prospect as Shane pointed out in his prospect hot list , the senior WR is putting FIU back on the map after leading his team to an upset over Louisville. Already a two time Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Hilton has 14 catches for 333 yards (tied for best in the nation) and 3 TDs.

3. Week 4 - This may not make sense but there is plenty to look forward to in these next two weeks. We have conference play, marquee games, potential Heisman moments, and a ton of Top 10 implications.

Saturday Sept. 24th:
LSU @ WVU
Arkansas @ Alabama
Oklahoma State @ Texas A&M
USC @ Arizona State

Definitely getting ahead of myself here but what isn't there to love about that lineup?

Stock Down:

1. Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt - Start the season against Boise State and South Carolina in a year that most say is a make or break for the Head Coach and the Bulldogs lose both. At home. I have a feeling this will be the only appearance Richt will be making on stock down until he gets fired. Because that will be the only place lower than he is now. Richt is sporting a .500 record since 2008 and although losing to Boise State and the Gamecocks is nothing to be ashamed of in 2011, it's not what Bulldog fans had in mind and they're certainly voicing their displeasure.

2. Pittsburgh's QB Tino Sunseri - Poor performances over the last two weeks haven't hindered the Panthers' record any but it has got the attention of the media and the head coach. If Pittsburgh really wants to contend this year not only in the Big East but on the national level as well, they will need more production from the QB position. RB Ray Graham has been the spark to this offense thus far by leading the nation in rushing but thats no thanks to the passing threat provided by the Panthers offense. During the spring and into the summer it was rumored that the coaching staff wanted to include red shirt freshman Anthony Gonzalez more and toyed around with the thought of him under center. That was halted by Gonzalez's arrest for possession of marijuana followed by a two game suspension. He's back with the 2-0 Panthers this week just in time for their match up with Iowa. Gonzalez will be used in an H-Back role but watch out for him to potentially take snaps if (more like when) Sunseri struggles.

3. Purdue Football - Barely beat Middle Tennessee in your opener. Excusable. First game of the season... Underprepared... Took their opponent lightly.. So be it. Lose to Rice the next week. Ok, Purdue is just bad. It looks like Miami (FL) transfer QB Robert Marve will get his chance at the Purdue job. Although unimpressive in his time at the U, it can't get much worse for Purdue.

Homer Corner:

We have a major stock up for WVU this week, and although they handled Norfolk State in a 55-12 win; it has nothing to do with what is happening on the field. Oliver Luck has issued a statement for students to be more respectful and tasteful... with... what they wear. WVU is infamous for their 'West ******* Virginia' shirts that can undoubtedly be seen on any broadcast of a WVU game and Luck is trying to rid the student body of wearing them.
