Brandon Crawford (SS) and Brandon Belt (1B) both finished second in fan voting. Neither player made the ASG. Huuuuuuuge snubs. Come on. These are travesties. Boycott the ASG.

BTW, a very fair reason why Cueto is not in......
"The non-selection of Cueto, he said, was because the righthander, who is 9-4 with a 2.26 earned run average, is slated to pitch next Sunday for the Reds and would be unavailable to pitch in an All-Star Game two days later. La Russa said he also removed Milwaukee's Zack Greinke (9-2) from consideration because he had been told Greinke would be pitching next Sunday."

lol I love it. Carpenter has such a bad reputation it's hilarious. I really don't know where it came from. And if you even bring up that Brendan Ryan incident you're an idiot. Because that happens all the time in baseball, Carpenter didn't know cameras would catch that.
Carpenter is a beast.

Besides the HR's that year is was still pretty close. Throw in the fact Wright had a much better track record at that point then it makes more sense. This year is just BS where the stats aren't even close since Panda was out for a month. Wright's been the 2nd best player in baseball.
I also usually think they do a prety good job with the MLB All Stars. Fans and the managers picking the team. This year is a mess. They need to add some more spots to the roster.

What team would be a good fit for Hamels besides the Dodgers? Pitt should trade for him even though they need bats.

I would LOVE Greinke or Hamels. It'd probably take less to trade for Greinke, but I'd do it.
Pirates could give up next to little for Cody Ross and trade a nice few pieces for Greinke. Greinke, Burnett, and McDonald will win division IMO.

I doubt they could sign him long term making giving up someone like Cole or Taillion hard to do.
If I were the Bucs and I could get Hamles to sign a 5-7 year deal I would have no problem trading one of their big pitching prospects.

Wish the Angels traded for an arm with Haren being horrible in June and Ervin being the freakin headcase he is
oh and why did Dunn make the team as a DH over Edwin Encarnacion? Come on now
gonna suck when he comes in to pinch hit late in the game only to strike out

LaRussa is retired tho...he doesn't wanna do that much work....
Plus, the starting pitcher that was a really bad choice was Cole Hamels, so he woulda had to choose between the two to piss off still...

The Pirates need to make a splash. They haven't signed anyone in forever and have enough money available I think.

Hamels is looking for something in between Weaver (5/85) and Sabathia (7/161) so Im not sure the list of teams willing to offer that kind of coin after trading "3 good young players" that the Phillies are looking for.

Cardinals have the pieces and the money to make a deal like this but I don't know if Mo would do it.

Rosenthals article for the Pirates to go all in and get Grienke or Hamels is awesome. I'd love to see the Pirates make a big time move like this. Of course they won't sign either long term but as long as the price is right I'd love to get one of those two and shore up the rotation in which Karstens has barely played, Bedard is falling off lately, and Correia is anything but certain.
A move like this could set them up with 3 very good pitchers for the rest of the year. I love it.

It doesn't make much sense to me.
Pirates have a good team and I'm not saying don't try to improve it, but you can still go after lesser talents that would be great additions to that team. If I was a Pirates fan I wouldn't want to get rid of the future for a 3-month rental.

Just depends on who those future players are.
If it is someone like Rudy Owens, Jeff Locke, Justin Wilson, Robbie Grossman, or a few of the bonus babies that we drafted and signed, I could see it. If it was Cole, Taillon, Bell, Heredia, Marte(maybe), then no, I wouldn't do it.

Rentals really don't cost that much, and now that the rules have changed so that teams don't get a draft pick when rentals leave, it could be even cheaper.
I wouldnt give up any elite prospect, and by that I only mean Cole, Taillon, Marte, Bell, and Heredia. Everyone else is fair game.
I'm not talking about giving away the future, but making a huge improvement to the pitching staff and really trying to make a run rather than just hope what we have holds up and gets by is the better move in my opinion. Of course, this all depends on what the players cost, but I really don't think it will be that expensive to get them once the deadline comes around.

Lowrie over Desmond, yes, but Castro I'm guessing made it because he can do more than just hit HRs.
Also, the entertainment of watching Castro play the field is invaluable.
