I want Dempster or Jason Vargas. Saunders and McCarthy would have been nice if they weren't hurt. Garza would cost too much IMO.

Disagree, I mean they could use another bat but it's not as big of a need as getting another Arm in that Rotation. They did score 146 runs last month, leading the Major Leagues. And guys like Walker, McGehee and Alveraz are actually starting to contribute to the team.

I'd love to see another outfielder. Marte will be up right after the break. And while Sutton, Jones, and Harrison have been capable filling in the other spot, I'd much rather see a nice power bat added. My target would be Willingham there.
But I do think adding another starter could make this rotation pretty ridiculous. Burnett and McDonald have been great. Karstens had great stuff tonight and I think he is very efficient and consistent. Bedard has great stuff when he's pitching well. Adding another solid arm could be a great move. Only thing is that arm might just come from AAA where most of the starters are pitching very welll. Might be nice to give one of them a chance before seeing what you need to give up for a rental arm.
Just keep winning series. It's been an awesome first half of the season.

Pirates still need a bat just in case Alvarez doesn't go on one of his huge slumps again. Jones and McGehee would be a nice platoon at first, but in no way should be non-replaceable if a better option comes aboard.
Starling Marte should/will be up after the break. Cody Ross would be a nice addition to the club. I really want Headley, Quentin, or Willingham, but I don't think the Pirates would give up enough to land them.

I like Headley a lot as well, mostly because of the years of control. I'd definitely build a package around any of our AAA arms for him if that would've enough to get it done.
Biggest addition to this team would come from getting another quality pitcher. No way we finish the season with Correia as a starter whether the replacement come from AAA or a deadline move.

I would dangle Robbie Grossman to teams. He's very solid and is starting to rake after now getting healthy after his hamate injury this offseason. The Padres love athletes and I think he'd be on their list of prospects to grab.
I'd try and trade Owens/Locke for the starter. For some reason, I want to keep Justin Wilson. A lefty who can throw as hard as he can and has the stuff he has is not common. Control is what is holding him back. He could be a pretty good 3rd starter or a dominating closer. Either one would be fine for me.

Regarding Correia:
I want him gone because I don't think he's anything special and I wouldn't trust him if our season was on the line. But he is what he is and does an adequate job at it. He's strictly a 5th starter. He's pitched some nice games lately, but is prone to his blow ups. I'd put Bedard on the DL because he isn't the same pitcher he was after he got those back spasms.

I know(I think) you're being sarcastic, but no, I will not. It's the baseball thread and I damn well will talk about the Pirates. If others can talk about Trout, Yankees, Mets, etc all thread long, I can talk about the first place Pirates.

It's even fun to say. First Place Pirates.
And at least you can't say you're sick of Pirates talk over the years...

That would be the stupidest trade ever. One of the best catchers in the game for a closer? Shoot, I'd deal Ryan Cook for Buster Posey in a heartbeat.

Cards win 6-2, take 3 of 4 from the Rockies. Need to take at least 2 of 3 from the Fish so we can go into the break with a little momentum to start the 2nd half.
Cardinals are pretty much on pace to what they were last year
2011: 45-38
2012: 44-39
I'm predicting 91-92 wins will win the Division.

Pirates are an awesome story. It would be great to see them make the playoffs...
... as long as it's not at the expense of the Mets of course.
