Surprisingly Mark Reynolds has been playing a decent defensive first base. He's hot garbage at the plate, but the injury to Thome has forced the O's hand to put him out there and keep Chris Davis at DH. Wilson Betemit on the other hand is an abortion in the field.

Defense definitely is upgraded with him. His offense should be enough to keep Reynolds and Betemit (even Andino) off 3B for most of game daily.

Betemit and Reynolds combination owns a pathetic 11 home runs as 3B. If Machado at least meets halfway in only 2 months then it is good.

Yes, you are correct.

Decent for him. He's pretty bad. He never knows whether to go for the ball or let the 2B get it. Although he does make the occasional spectacular play. But overall he's still bad.

Oh he is by no means an acceptable first baseman, and those spectacular plays are really him compensating for the fact that he can't make a routine play. He doesn't put himself in position for the routine play and thus has to lunge or dive or whatever in an attempt to make up for his poor positioning. Why this guy is still on the team is boggling other then his contract and that is not even a good enough reason.

They should just cut him. They're not picking up his option next year so why even waste your time anymore for these last 45+ games.

It is a good chance that he will be a goner by August 31st. Maybe he cleared the waiver as Orioles could not save some $$$. Reynolds' unpaid salary should be smaller by September 1st. Few teams can afford to borrow him or Orioles could cut him due to no difference in money for the end of this year.

I really can't grasp why Duquette and Buck are throwing him out there everyday. His power has absolutely disappeared. His strikeouts are verging on silly when you actually watch them. His walks are down, his average is abysmal even for him, frankly there's no reason to think he can magically rediscover his power stroke. We would be better off with Davis at first and Betemit at the DH spot.

When the Orioles have a positive run differential we can talk about a REAL playoff run. Right now it's just smoke and mirrors.

That is a fan's point of view, not a profession's.

Anyways, I think Reynolds and Betemit should platoon at DH while Davis plays on the field. Reynolds' everyday job is over.

And it's not even like they're at Blue Jays level in terms of run differential. -53 is just not going to work.

Exactly. If it was like -10 or better I'd say it's no big deal but -53 is enough of a major warning sign that what's going on is going to burst like a bubble.

I agree, but they keep on winning somehow. I think even management believed it was too good to be true, which is why they didn't make a move at the deadline. But 10 days later and still tied for a playoff spot, I think they have to try and go for it. Thus bringing up Machado. I'm also not of the belief that bringing someone up too early will ruin him, especially not with position players. It's stupid for things like service time when it comes to teams who needs to watch that, but if it can help you make the playoffs, you'll sacrifice that.

Some people think if the Orioles are still in it, you might see Bundy here in September for 3-5 innings at a time every 5 days.

I imagine the Orioles will drop off like the 2010 Padres did. They were another team in it that was to good to be true.

I'm also not of the belief that bringing someone up too early will ruin him, especially not with position players. It's stupid for things like service time when it comes to teams who needs to watch that, but if it can help you make the playoffs, you'll sacrifice that.
I believe 3B will be vacant next year so Machado will take over either SS or 3B on an opening day, depending where will Hardy play. I don't think Orioles sacrifice the service time for just a playoff opportunity.

Buck meant to use top prospects this year if Orioles had a shot to be in playoff race. Afterwards, Buck will continue playing those prospects into next year and beyond that. Otherwise, Buck wont touch those prospects this year. That is what he said earlier this season.

Orioles management did try to make few trades but it was impossible to get it done without losing either or both Machado and Bundy and they wont overpay someone for rental jobs.

Enough about Orioles. heh.

After stories of 20 years old phenoms have surfaced for last 3 years, do you believe that Yankees' catcher, Gary Sanchez will be that part next year?

Right now, he is 19 years old and plays for Trenton (AA). He is just rebound from struggle but if he actually finishes this year strong then he has a shot to be in AAA club next year although Yankees have tendency of repeating level. If there is any sense that he becomes a MLB ready during next season, he could see some action in bigs.

Sanchez apparently is not better than Jesus Montero but he can stick behind the dish. Montero reached AAA at age of 20 but he repeated AAA because his ability behind the dish was questionable. Hence, we have Russ Martin.

Yankees catching depth for 2013.

Russ Martin - FA.
New FA Acquisition?
Chris Stewart - back up.
Francisco Cervelli - out of options, above average back up.
Austin Romine - rookie with bad back. decent RBI production.
JR Murphy - AA or AAA. still raw.
Gary Sanchez - AA or AAA.

Do you believe?

Anyways, I think Reynolds and Betemit should platoon at DH while Davis plays on the field. Reynolds' everyday job is over.
What I stated about Reynolds is fact. Fan or not he's not getting it done. He's on pace for career lows in every offensive category. Wilson Betemit isn't garnering any MVP votes for his offense, but he is better then Reynolds in every category offensively.

And btw, the word you were looking for is professional.

Fan= game performance and statistic.

Professional= game performance, statistic, work ethic, money trap, trade, loyal, etc.

Reynolds is making 7.5m this year so Orioles could not simply dump him for nothing. This year is his first season that he does not live up to his last 4 seasons so he gets a benefit of doubt from Orioles. Orioles very much like to make a trade in order to save some $$ but Reynolds could clear the waiver, as a result of you know that there is no team who will take his remaining salary or partial of it for his pathetic performance.

Orioles basically pay Reynolds to be at least on the active roster. It is nothing we the fans can do about it.

Betemit is easily better than Reynolds because he bats well against RHP and Reynolds could not hick anything against RHP. RHP is still abundant in MLB.

Question about $$ towards the luxury tax threshold.

Player X contract:

2013: 5mm
2014: 9mm
2015: 12mm

AAV: 8.7mm

Which one does count towards the luxury tax for each those 3 years, 8.7m or specific year salary? thank you.
