Wow, the Dodgers are completely bailing Boston out of some ugly contracts. I just don't get it
who the hell in the world would want to take on Crawford's contract?

Rubby is a beast. That fb/changeup combo is filthy and his slider has flashes of being above average. I like him a lot, though I HATE that he will be going from the NL West to the AL East. My dynasty team does not approve of that

Yeah I'm underrating him a bit. The Red Sox also got Webster out of the deal, so that's pretty stupid.

It's NEd Coletti. This is the same guy who wasted huge amounts of money on Andruw Jones, Jason Schmidt and Juan Pierre

The stupid part is the Dodgers being OK with taking on Crawford's contract

Any word if either Beckett or Crawford are not willing to waive their no trade clauses? I cannot imagine either being unwilling to move on, but always a possibility I guess.

It would be amazing if Beckett didn't waive his no trade clause, ruining the deal. Can you imagine how hated he'd be by the fans?

Crawford was an atrocious fit in Boston, though his arm might fall off, he might be able to do something in LA. Beckett was great for a while, maybe a change of scenery is good for him. Gonzalez better be a near MVP type of player for the Dodgers for this to work. This type of risk puts Kenny Williams to shame. Before Magic and co. take over, you might as well spend the rest of Major League Baseball's money.

You guys have the most talented roster in the division and you're sitting in 3rd place?

I don't know how I feel about trading Gonzo...
I mean there is the plus of unloading Crawford and Beckett but it still hurts to give up Rizzo and Youk and then trade Gonzo.

Those are my thoughts on the deal too. You hate to lose Gonzalez, especially considering we lost Rizzo and Youk because of bringing Gonzo in. The reality is we won't really know how to truly gauge this trade until we see what they do with the potential salary cap space.

It doesn't seem like there's much out there in free agents, but whoever the hell is in charge, Cherington I guess, can be creative with prospects and bring in some marketable players. There are still a few bad contracts on that team, so it can't all be young guys.

Crazy game Chicago.
Should stop the Seattle honks from declaring Mariners contenders for WC.

As long as the Dodger ownership doesn't care about spending ridiculous amounts of money going forward (basically being the Yankees West), I don't think it's a bad deal. A-Gon looks like he's back to his old self (putting up a .400 wOBA in both July and August) and that is a huge upgrade over Loney for the playoff run. Yeah, they're taking on a crapload of money but those awful contracts don't really matter much if the owners don't give a **** about spending.

Dumping Beckett is a pure 100% win. Crawford was just destined to fail here I think, but he had **** luck too. He was playing pretty well in the little time he was active this year but he just couldn't stay healthy and was never going to live up to that contract.
Gonzalez is pretty tough to lose, not just considering his production but all of the other factors. Losing Rizzo and Youkilis to get/keep him and then dump him less than two seasons later stings. We also were completely out of the Pujols and Fielder sweepstakes along with other big time FA because of him. He's a great player no matter how you slice it, but we just want to clean house I guess.
