I am coming up to my vacation time from work, so I am going to work on some prospect lists from the various minor leagues. The first one I am going to tackle is the Rookie Level Appalachain League. So here goes the first batch of prospects.

Drew Vettleson
OF – Princeton Devil Rays
Age - 20
2010 1st Rd. 42nd Overall by TB
.325 avg, 51 hits, 4 triples, 6 home runs, 34 rbi, 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts
* - young lefty projects as a solid major league outfielder, may not have any wowing tools, but will be a solid regular

Jamal Austin
OF – Pulaski Mariners
Age - 20
2011 13th Rd. 393rd Overall by SEA
.386 avg, 56 hits, 2 triples, 9 rbi, 19 stolen bases in 26 attempts
* - speedster could become a 4th/5th outfielder, his speed and ability to beat out ground balls could be his ticket to the majors, think a juan pierre type player

Chase Davidson
1B – Greenville Astros
Age - 21
2011 41st Rd. 1,240th Overall by HOU
.340 avg, 51 hits, 10 home runs, 38 rbi, 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts
* - tall lefty who could afford to grow a bit, apparently not a clogger on the bases, if he develops more power he could make the majors in Houston

Tyler Rahmatulla
2B – Johnson City Cardinals
Age - 21
2011 34th Rd. 1,040th Overall by STL
.322 avg, 47 hits, 3 triples, 4 home runs, 27 rbi
* - former UCLA Bruin does his damage against righties, could become a platoon type guy if he continues to hit

Murray Watts
1B – Burlington Royals
Age - 23
2010 28th Rd. 839th Overall by KC
.261 avg, 42 hits, 12 home runs, 36 rbi
* - a bit old for the Appy League, but how can you not keep an eye on a guy that is 6’7 and 270 pounds? he needs to hit to keep moving because the power numbers will be his ticket, could use a change of scenery as Hosmer should be manning 1st base in KC for the next decade

Miguel Sano
3B – Elizabethton Twins
Age - 18
UDFA by MIN from Dominican Republic
.288 avg, 51 hits, 6 triples, 10 home runs, 29 rbi
* - kid is huge and has a fantastic speed/power combination, if he develops like projected he could become a superstar, he should be a big league regular. best prospect in the Appy League

Lucas La Point
RHP – Danville Braves
Age – 20
2009 23rd Rd. 688th Overall by ATL
3 wins & 3 losses in 9 starts, 1.98 era, 1.16 whip, 50.0 IP, 38Ks to 6 BBs
* - second time in the Appy League, but with much better results this season. doesn’t dominate, but gets the job done, could be a bullpen guy down the line.

Tyrell Jenkins
RHP – Johnson City Cardinals
Age – 19
2010 1st Rd. 50th Overall by STL
3 wins & 1 loss in 8 starts, 3.73 era, 1.37 whip, 41.0 IP, 41 Ks to 8 BBs
* - raw, but projectable righty has size, but needs to fill out a bit, could become a middle of the rotation starter

Akeel Morris
RHP – Kingsport Mets
Age – 18
2010 10th Rd. 302nd Overall by NYM
2 wins & 2 losses in 8 starts, 3.63 era, 1.31 whip, 39.2 IP, 53 Ks to 26 BBs
* - another raw prospect with a live, but wild arm. he has kept hitters under .190 in his two pro seasons, if he continues to develop and amass strikeouts he could be an end of the rotation type starter.

Matthew Murray
RHP – Burlington Royals
Age – 21
2011 10th Rd. 306th Overall by KC
2 wins & 3 losses in 10 starts, 3.18 era, 0.94 whip, 44.2 IP, 49 Ks to 8 BBs
* - big righty does well against righties, could make a bullpen down the line as he racks up strikeouts and doesn’t give up hits

Nick Graffeo
RHP – Burlington Royals
Age – 23
2010 38th Rd. 1,139th Overall by KC
3 wins & 1 loss in 13 appearances, 4 saves, 1.51 era, 0.84 whip, 35.2 IP, 44 Ks to 9 BBs
* - a bit old for the Appy League, but has done well in relief, could be moved quickly due to his age, he has dominated righties, so I see him as more of a situational reliever in the bigs

It seems like its winding down. Last two nights it came on his last at bat. He's due for an O-fer.

Have you actually seen these Appy games? Cause I've been wondering about this Brandon Drury kid on Atlanta. I'm lucky enough to get to watch AAA Gwinnett games this year, but that's the only level I've been actually watching. I'd love some first hand insight.

Drury's K to BB ratios are ****. But he's crushing the hell out of the ball. Obviously sounds the part of a free swinger, but maintaining a .330+ average over 42 games and amassing 7 homers and 38 RBI is rather impressive on any level.

I've also been impressed by the numbers Danville's 1B, William Beckwith, has been putting up. Looks like he has a good idea of the strike zone, posts a .414 OBP right now. Has some pop, is a perfect 7 for 7 on steal attempts, and has 3 triples. Not bad for a 220 lb first baseman.

Great work. Morris actually has upside of a front of the line starter but obviously right now who knows what way he'll go. His strikeout rates are very encouraging and he does have the raw stuff to back that up. On the other hand he can't control that well right now as evidence by the walks but he has plenty of time to clean it up. Very intereresting prospect for the Mets.

Look at the lineups in the Mets/Padres game. Why do I put myself through this?

Leyland isn't nearly as bad as Hurdle or Tracy or even Joe Torre was, I don't really care either way. He's perfectly acceptable honestly, except for his weird mistreatment of Rick Porcello.

I'm more angry at the timing of the extension than I am they retained him.

Make the playoffs. Win the division for the first time in 6 seasons. Then I can accept it.

I'm loving him. The guy is everything I've wanted in a lead off bat for years. The lineup def. looks a lot stronger with Bourn and Constanza in there.

The funny thing is, Constanza has been providing Atlanta with everything Bourn can do, aside from the defense. But having two players of this similar mold certainly isnt a bad thing. haha. Constanza has just been a really nice surprise. And going from Schafer to Bourn at the lead off spot, is like night and day.

OK, so I added him in Xio's fantasy league. I expect greatness from him here on out.

Well hopefully it continues for him. He's red hot. A lot of people brushed him off as an AAAA player, but he's playing some fantastic ball for Atlanta. Just continuing what he did in AAA this year, where he was an All-Star. Makes me proud to see him play so well. :)

Hooray for 27 year old rookies.

Most people thought the same of Nelson Cruz before the Rangers gave him a chance.
