I was going to mention the same thing.

Number of players with 3,000 hits- 28
Number of players with 600 home runs- 7

Seriously? They mention it for 2 seconds when they show Twins highlights. I don't think Jeter left the front page of ESPN.com for the 2 weeks prior to his 3,000th hit.

I know the Yankees are better than the Twins but it's an individual achievement that shouldn't matter.

Yeah the only time I see Thome get coverage is when they show a highlight of the Twins and Jim Thome hits a HR. All they have given him is a little graphic.

Yeah, I don't like it very much either. There will be some Thome love after he does it for sure, but it won't be anywhere near the spectacle they made the entire Jeter thing into. But Jeter is an iconzzzz.

I think the better # to use there is

Number of Yankees with 3000 hits - 1.

Of course the Yankee will get more media attention, they have more fans. It is smart business. Combine that with Thome moving around a bit in his career, and 500 being the "it" # for HRs, you'll get smalled media attention.

As for the ESPN front page, I see a Thome HR tracker?

You don't think steroids has anything to do with the lack of coverage of the 600 HRs?

We've also seen it more often recently than 3,000 hits. No cares about Biggio.

If it does that's a joke because Thome was never implicated in anything steroid related whatsoever.

And well....yeah. But Jim Thome was a better player than Craig Biggio. Like a lot better.

I think it's more that the whole era has been implicated. Of course steroids still would help you get 3,000 hits, but they get associated with HRs.

Meh, the offense isn't really as bad as they performed earlier in the year but it's also probably not as good as it's been the last month and a half.

I can't believe people are making such a big deal about Bryce Harper getting kicked out of a game. What a stupid story.

yeah, if this was a Yankee or Red Sox player going for 600 HRs then there would be a special little subheader on the Bottom Line for "Thome" like there has been for Favre and Jeter and Tiger. That's the way it is, ESPN admits openly that they show favoritism to Boston and New York b/c that's where they get the most viewers (thanks a lot frontrunner fans btw).

I also find it weird how watching the Twins games where Thome hits a home run they act like he's an all-time great Twins player, not a guy who's been on the team for like one season.

Tigers just salvaged a miserable series with the Indians.

Verlander wins his MLB-leading 17th game (7 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 10 K) on a night he looked a bit off from the start.

Valverde saved his 33rd consecutive attempt from the start of the season, a club record.

Austin Jackson — Web Gem of the night to save the tying run from scoring.

So Josh Willingham is a slightly above average hitter. I don't see where you're going with this.

You don't have to have an excellent offense to win games. With the A's pitching staff, a mediocre offense should work. A team doesn't need an elite hitter in their lineup to accomplish that. Coming into the year, it looked like the A's had a lineup that would have been middle of the pack on paper. Obviously things didn't work as planned for the first 2-3 months because everybody on offense played well below their capabilities.

I dont't think anyone thought the A's lineup would be middle of the pack. I'm pretty sure everyone who wasn't a fan thought they'd be terrible. Bottom 5.

This. Oakland isn't winning anything with that offense. You still need to score runs to win games. I don't care how good the pitching staff is.

Top 5 ERAs in the AL. LAA, OAK, NYY, SEA, TB. Only one of those teams is making the playoffs. The one that scores a ton a runs.

Last season they finished 20th in team wOBA. They lost Cust; but added Willingham, Dejesus, and Matsui. You don't think that should have boosted the offense a little closer to middle of the pack?

Where did they rank in runs? Because you know those actually count on the scoreboard.

23rd, don't avoid the question. Why would you expect them to get worse with the additions they made?

I'm still scratching my head on how the Giants won the WS with that AAA offense.

First of all those additions are not very good. Matsui is shot. Willingham is a platoon player. DeJesus is a decent player. Without going over the individual players on the 2010 team, I can't tell you? Did they overachieve? To be honest I'm surprised you were even that high in 2010. There are basically no good hitters in that lineup.
