Tigers are reportedly near a deal for Bobby Abreu ... The Angels better be picking up a chunk of his $9 million salary.
EDIT: Can't find much credibility in a source, but it's being discussed on twitter.

Buster Olney is SPECULATING on Twitter that Detroit could make a 1-year offer to Prince at a very high salary. Says the market for Fielder would be better next year for his mega-deal. Detroit will get back as much as 75% of Victor Martinez's $13 million salary in insurance money.
I won't say it's very likely, but the team has a good relationship with Scott Boras. It's POSSIBLE he could be convinced of its merits. Surely Fielder would produce batting behind Miguel Cabrera.

It had better be one hell of an offer, because I wouldn't want to risk ~$150 million if I were Prince. Too many things can happen in a year.

Highly unlikely, but not crazy enough to dismiss. Maybe Fielder if just doesn't want to sign with a not-yet-a-contender team like Washington.
But I don't think it's unprecedented, is it? Maybe not a star quite of his caliber, but it's plausible. It'd be highly unlikely his value would diminish and they have injury insurance for stuff like that.

I'm not trying to dismiss it, just saying it would have to be a significant deal to make it worth the risk.

Miggy and Prince will have plenty of money to spend on doughnuts and booze.
But seriously, wow.

The reports say Prince will play first base. Does this mean Cabrera is moving back to third base next season when Victor is back? That'll be a defensive disaster.

Make no mistake: This signing occurred for one reason — owner Mike Illitch wants to win a World Series before he dies.
