Ryan Zimmerman and the Nats agreed to an extension for 6 years $100 million. It doesn't kick in for 2 more years though.

Awful luck for Mr. Zumaya, but it happens. Have to believe Carlos Gutierrez gets even more of a look for a legit ML bullpen role now.

Oh, Zumaya. What could have been. Hasn't had a single healthy season since 2006, his rookie year.

I'd guess Hosmer. Watch it turn out to be a lifetime contract for the combo of Frenchy + Yuniesky.

5 years $75 million for Yadier. Overpay because of Pujols loss.

Intangibles, leadership, managing the rotation, framing pitches, calling the game and stuff.

Scott Sizemore hurt his knee during the A's first workout. It's a torn ACL and he's out for the season.

Does this strike anyone else as extremely strange and really stupid?
http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/st...-astros-closer
Houston is moving Brett Myers from the rotation to the closer role this season. He's arguably their best starter. Do the Astros think they will win so many games this year that it's necessary to have him closing?

Can't get the first overall pick if you have a guy winning too many games for you?

And isn't baseball where u can't have the number 1 pick two years in a row?? Yeah, unless Myers requested it and said my arm can't go 200 innings, so move me to closer....But I don't get the move at all.

Unless that was in the new CBA, then no. Washington got Strasburg and Harper number one back to back.

I think you can't get compensated a number 1 if you couldn't sign your guy? Or something like that in the new CBA. I think there was a scenario where the Nats wouldn't be able to have the first two picks if they couldn't sign Strasburg.

The first pick used to alternate between AL and NL for some dumb reason but they did get rid of that.

No they didn't. And then you see what the Cardinals are paying their catcher...
