What we do is what San Diego did with ELI manning. Picking for the purpose of trading
There are clearly two top QB's in the draft. Bradford and Clausen.

stl
wash
Seattle
Cle
buffalo
All of these teams need a "Franchise" QB both with only two aval... we should have trade partners at #2.
As a lions fan I would love to move down and pick up some extra picks.
Here is my idea.... if we can't get a trade done during our 15 minutes then we take Clausen or Bradford if he falls. This might force the hand of some of the teams behind us. It could backfire but maybe it get us a few picks.... let me kbnow what you think.... I am thinking of two possible players that would really help us Russel Okung LT and Gerald Mccoy that we can get with later picks. Potential trade mock Draft

STL #1 Bradford
DET #2 Clausen
TB #3 Suh
Wash #4 Okung (traded to DET for Clausen and #36 overall)
#2 2600 = (#4 1800 + #36 540 + 68 260)
We still get the guy we want but pick up an extra pick.

Scenerio #2

STL #1 Suh
Det #2 Bradford
TB #3 McCoy
Wash #4 Clausen
KC#5 Okung
Seattle #6 E. Berry (Traded to DET for Bradford)
Det trades #2 2600 and #97 (112) to Seattle for Eric Berry (1600) #14 (1100)
at 14 we get Antony Davis OT Rutgers

What do you think...the lions need to maxamize their picks in the draft..

It won't work for us like it did for SD...SD needed a QB at that time, we do not since we just drafted Stafford last year. Since every team knows we wouldn't keep Clausen we would loose all leverage and get a worse deal then we probably could have gotten if we traded the pick before we drafted him.

This really doesn't make any sense. Like everyone said we have a young QB, we have no leverage to get a great deal done. One of the two DT's will be a great pick. Just think, if we got Suh, we would have arguably 3 of the top prospects of the last 4 drafts. Thats pretty cool.

What leverage do we have by taking clausen. Locked into a 80 millions dollar contract or letting him walk the second we take him. every team knows we wouldnt wanta keep him

No no no no, simply no. Horrible idea that will come back and hurt you. The Lions cannot afford to act as if Millen is still the GM. Create smokescreens for players that teams below you might want, is a good idea, drafting a player you dont need and want is not so bright.
