You will absolutely not be in a small minority of people who like to be contrarian on the internet.

Not to be a dick about the opinion you're obviously entitled to, but there is going to be like 30 reviews written just like yours.

Looks like this finale is going to be ridiculously overrated due to how good the rest of the series was. The first hour was incredibly slow and predictable. Lydia getting ricined? Didn't see that coming. Walt behind that pillar while Skylar was talking to Marie? SHOCKING! And the part where he tells Skylar he did it for himself? That admission loses a bit of weight with him saying he is in the empire business a little while ago and the fact that if he was really in it for the family, he would have stopped long ago.

The part where he visited Elliot and Gretchen was kind of unexpected. I knew he wasn't going to kill them but I did like his plan to get Junior the money. However, that too was disappointing because we STILL don't know what happened to make him leave Gray Matter in the first place. Considering Gray Matter played a big part in his life and helped push him into the meth game, I think the answer to that question is pretty important.

The last 20 minutes were well done. Loved how he killed the Nazi guys and I'm satisfied that he is dead. Not happy that Jesse is left with basically nothing at the end of all this.

Overall, very disappointing finale (coupled with a disappointing penultimate episode). But I'll be one of the few people who will actually say this because talking bad about Breaking Bad on the Internet is a good way to get **** on. 4/10

I think you missed the point. It was not to inform either Skyler or the viewer of some secret motivation. We know that given everything he's done, it hasn't been a money/family issue for a very, very long time. It was to have Walter White simply admit it in front of Skyler, to finally stop the BS.

Jesse is a survivor so he doesn't need to gt rich or anything. Him getting free from his chains was his reward. He broke free in the obvious way and symbolically from Walters manipulation.

Just imagine the anxiety and sheer panic rushing through Lydia's head as she realizes she is going to be dead within the day and there is absolutely nothing she can do about it.

Also a scene getting way over looked was the flashback to Jesse making the birdhouse. I loved it, it was beautiful.

No I don't really think I did miss the point. In this thread, it's been mentioned that this was him finally saying to himself that he is selfish and did it for himself. That's sounds all well and good until you remember he's always made that admission when he said he was doing this to build an empire because of his pride was beaten due to yhe success of Gray Matter. Yes the part about him feeling alive was a bit extra but to me there was nothing stunning about him making an admission of something for the second time.

Yes you did. He admitted it to Skyler, which is a huge deal.

you mean the box that he traded for an ounce of weed? Yea that scene was great

I feel the show could have ended with Ozymandias and it would have been an acceptable finale. To me Granite State was the perfect set-up for the perfect Epilogue that was Felina. Just a nice way to wrap everything up and leave nothing unanswered.......except for Huell, he's still waiting

He said he was in the empire business once he had thought he had lost his family (Skylar kept the kids at Hank and Marie's and Skylar hated him and wished him dead), to which it was all he had left- not because he valued it over his family. last night was his first admission that he valued what he did over that of his family, which was a big deal. Pointing to the empire speech is proof you didnt get the significance of him admitting to Skylar he just loved it more than his family.

Really the only issue I had with last night was the decision that Jimmy Kimmel needed to be a guest on Talking Bad.

It's amusing that so many critics are saying the finale was "too clean" and had "too much closure" when those same people, in most cases, were arguing the exact opposite with Lost.

In my eyes, Breaking Bad earned the right to end the narrative definitively in the finale because of how relentless and devastating the preceding episodes were. The show didn't have a "happy ending."

The Wire ended it in a cleanish fashion, so I don't see the problem. Not everything can end like The Sopranos (or The Shield ;) ).

Like everyone else, I disagree with you about his admission. That to me was the best part of the episode. The cries for "I did it for my family" to me, where always ******** and I was happy to see that admission out loud. Walt hated his life. He loved his family, maybe, but he wasn't happy with his family. He didn't care when he found out about his cancer because he didn't like his jobs, his wife was a huge *****, and he didn't really connect with ANY other human beings in his life. He missed the birth of his daughter. I think the whole point of the Ted Benneke thing was to show that Skyler and Walt WEREN'T true loves to each other. The only two things Walt was passionate about were himself and chemistry. The show battled the idea that you are supposed to love your family - but what if you don't? Initially an average joe unhappy with his life, Walt turned out to be an ego-maniacal sociopath. In that way it's sort of a fantasy. Does everyone have that capability? Are we all capable to break bad, ignore others, and do what we want for only ourselves? Why not?

WITH THAT SAID, I agree with you about the predictability. It was insanely predictable throughout. The only thing that wasn't completely nailed beforehand was the Gretchen/Elliot money thing. But we knew it was Badger out there with laser pointers, we knew what was going to happen with the Nazi's, we knew Lydia would be ricin'd, we knew Todd would be Jesse'd, we knew there would be a standoff with Walt and Jesse, and we knew Jesse would be freed.

The only thing I wonder is why Walt wanted Jesse to kill him? Was it guilt? Especially after knowing he'd die anyway.

I'll put it this way: I was satisfied, but not blown away at all like I had been with some other episodes.

The Wire remains the greatest show in TV history.

In my eyes, Breaking Bad earned the right to end the narrative definitively in the finale because of how relentless and devastating the preceding episodes were. The show didn't have a "happy ending."
I understand the feeling of too much closure not in the series mind you but in the final episode. It almost seems forced. They honestly needed another half season to tie up one loose end or so an episode. Say goodbye to characters until it ends with Walt and Jesse in the penultimate episode so the final episode can kinda be the ultimate epilogue. Although I don't think I've ever seen a completely satisfying end to an iconic series. Sopranos had its obvious flaws. Seinfeld ended weirdly. Rome ended ok I guess. I never watched the Shield and haven't finished BSG yet. The Wire's ending was kinda just there not all that memorable. Oz ended a season too late IMO.

I think The Office ended perfectly.

The thing about Breaking Bad is that the show was one big crescendo throughout. I haven't seen every elite drama series, but I'm pretty certain that very few of them had a strictly ascending path of quality resembling Breaking Bad, where it just so steadily built and built and didn't really have extended lulls. Most great shows are remembered for being great toward the beginning or peaking toward the middle somewhere before a drop-off in the later seasons. I think nearly every viewer of Breaking Bad would rank the seasons in nearly reverse order of greatness. The show peaked at the end. Not the middle or the beginning. That's a rarity and, at least for me, it's a big part of what makes it the greatest series ever.

I want the extras on the DVD set. I want to see Aaron and Bryan reading the finale cold.
