Well, there was more to it. Gilligan said the script for Episode One was about 7 pages shorter than a normal script (roughly 50) because so much time was spent in silence.

Jesse can't sleep because he realized he was wearing a Kenny Rogers shirt the other day.

I think Brodeur is right, it's at least not Mike or Gus. Gus is too powerful to not have someone else make that call for him, and the voice was NOT mike. It may not be the new guy, it may be, but it wasn't mike or Gus.

It Could Be A Disguised Voice!

I'm not buying the disguised voice. It didn't sound disguised like the "phantom" call you're talking about did.
I don't think it's the new guy... I'm still on the Gus or Mike train
I wonder if they intended on making that phone call such a hot topic or if it's a DC created buzz lol

IT WAS TYRUS! (yes, that is his name)

UPDATE: There's been so much debate in the comments about who called Walt - Gus or Mike - that I went and asked Vince Gilligan. I don't view his answer as any kind of spoiler (as it's info from an episode that's already aired), but in case you do, don't read the next short paragraph: So as it turns out, it wasn't Mike. And it wasn't Gus. It was, instead, the new third man in the operation, Tyrus (played by Ray Campbell), whom we saw earlier weighing the batch. And that explains why no one could agree on whether it was Esposito's voice or Banks's voice, I suppose.

Don't credit Brodeur. He didn't even know the guy's name.

You would think if he was just going to tell us before the next episode anyway Gilligan would have made it more clear who called.

I don't think he set out to make it a big deal (same thing with the whole "Is Gale dead?" thing on the finale), so he just answered it so people would shut up about it.

Maybe, but I do think it tells us a little bit about what Tyrus' role in all of this is going to be.

I never said it sounded like Mike, only that it made the most sense that he would call.

It also tells us his name. And what a badass name it is. Clearly he's no fuckup like Victor.

This episode is gonna be good, I already know it. Last week's episode was a small lull to set up new directions for this season, and as well all know, Breaking Bad moves quick. There won't be two of those types of episodes in a row.
