Not much of a surprise that we are taking a close look at Sean Weatherspoon:
http://smu.scout.com/2/959004.html
The link also says that we're working out Damian Williams on April 8, then he's coming in to Denver for a visit.
This is good news IMO, as I really like both of these prospects.

There are rumors that we've talked to both Spiller and E.J. Wilson (DE, NC), but I have yet to see any link confirming that... and until I do, they aren't going on the list.

do you think kenny mckinley has a future at slot? he was only a fifth rounder but he seems like a guy who projects well as an inside receiver. it's a little surprising to me that we've worked out so many guys that are going to be restricted to playing the slot at the next level.

also, not sold on weatherspoon for us... i'm not sure if i like him at ILB, and i can't imagine we'd draft another OLB.
|
definitely agree. i dont see him as a good fit as he's too similar to dj. no idea why so many fans want him over mcclain

IMO, McKinley needs to get stronger and more decisive before he can be a real contributor to the team.
As for the slot receiver thing, McD is on a quest to find someone to play a Welker-like role in our offense.

DJ wishes he had the leadership and aggression of Spoon. You're right though - that pick would make DJ expendable in the long run.
I like McClain and will have no issues if we draft him. However, you need to consider the value of a TED linebacker, which is essentially a two-down role, at 11. If we want to adjust the scheme to make the two inside guys interchangable, cool, but that would just strengthen the case for Spoon as he's more versatile.

Looks like we are bringing Arrelious Benn in for a second look:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...-Steelers.html
Quote:
Next week, he has a meeting with the Denver Broncos.
Benn has previously conducted a private workout for the Broncos.
|
I'm always curious when they meet with a prospect multiple times. A second look just to confirm an earlier decision? Need more info to sort out two prospects that have very similar grades?

Yeah, they very much fit the mould in terms of what the coaches from the Patriots' tree are looking for.

I wonder if McCluster was looked at with an eye to using him as a full-time slot receiver, rather than a scatback.
From what we've seen so far, it appears McD emphasizes the tactical use of personnel and is looking at prospects that could add some diversity to the attack. This is a good thing, IMO. Take the best weapons available and build them into your offensive scheme.

You think Benn is the target if Marshall gets traded, and a Shipley-type player is targeted regardless to fit into the slot?

I think it is just as likely that the Broncos have another receiver graded ahead of Benn, and the team is taking a second look at Benn just to be sure they've made the right decision.
That being said, yes, an outside receiver if Marshall goes and a guy to play inside regardless.

Tebow
Interesting twist:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...-in-Tebow.html
Quote:
|
Tebow makes a trip to Denver this week where the Broncos have quarterbacks they have traded for in the last year: Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn.
|
He's got the right intangibles.

LOL. I suspected that would get a reaction.
As for our first rounder, as it stands I don't think Spiller is on the radar (unless that rumor about him coming in for a visit was true). Also considering the guys we've talked to who could go in the 1st (in rough order of value):
WR Dez Bryant
NT Dan Williams
LB Sean Weatherspoon
C Maurkice Pouncey
WR Arrelious Benn
DE Jared Odrick
It seems to me we are looking at true needs in round 1, not luxury picks.

I really dislike Tebow as a Quarterback. I would be pretty sad if we drafted him.

I agree 100%.
I seriously wonder if this is some kind of smokescreen. It's a wierd fit considering the moves we've made.

I can't see trading Marshall unless we get good value for him. He's not Santonio Homles. If we can't get a good deal for him then we keep him and if he doesn't want to play he can ride the bench. Then we can franchise tag him next year until we can get a good offer. Theres zero reason to let go of a top 3 WR in the league for little value. Which of course means he'll go to Seattle for their 4th round pick and Owen Schmitt

I was wondering when they were going to bring this guy in:

Quote:

The stars are all out in Denver today. Alabama LB Rolando McClain, a candidate for 11th overall pick, joins Tebow, Dez visiting Broncos
|
More OL as well:

Offensive lineman Zane Beadles, whose been hampered with a hamstring injury throughout the pre-draft process, is hoping to run for scouts either this Friday the 16th or Saturday the 17th. Beadles has visited with the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.

Brandon Graham appears to be in the mix:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...d-Broncos.html
It seems we're taking a look at the "name" guys now (McClain, Bryant, Tebow, Graham). I wonder if this is more about due dilligence than them being high on our list. I remember last year we took a look at Sanchez in the week leading up to the draft... it seemed to be a "cover your bases" visit rather than an indication of serious interest.

Interesting info on Weatherspoon...
http://www.milehighreport.com/2010/4...ack-draft-sean
Quote:
Here is what Weatherspoon tweeted on Tuesday:
Quote:
|
Great meeting with Coach McDaniels, Martindale and Roman Phifer! I can dig it! What does Twitter think about me and DJ Williams side by side
|
|
But I personally like:
Quote:
|
The other thing I didn't realize about "Spoon" until someone alerted me to the fact, is that he's a fan of 80s-hair metal.
|
Metal horns up! This guy was my darkhorse before... now I'm openly rooting for him to be a Bronco. They can adjust the scheme to give him and DJ more interchangable roles (iirc, the Steelers do this with their inside guys).

I'm a big fan of Weatherspoon. I think he would be a good fit in Denver and could be a great pro. I'd definitely be happy if they took him.
