Even if Ernie Simms doesn't even make it out of training camp, the Eagles only gave up a 5th round pick for him.

And I think there is a nontrivial chance that Sims flourishes as a WLB in the Eagles' system. He's an fast, undersized LB who needs to be around a big D-Line and a big MLB to succeed, which the Eagles have.

Low-risk (5th round pick), High-Potential move, just like the signing of Marlin Jackson and the trade for Daryl Tapp.

I'm starting to think that "Josh McDaniels trades _______" jokes will become as prominent as "Al Davis drafts fast guy" jokes.

Fairly sure the 49'ers can spare a 4th round pick for Clady btw.

Just cause Sims was taken top ten doesn't make him good! I hate this guy... Don't understand how he's still making money talking about football.

Totally agree. Millen's logic would have you think Seattle signing Mike Williams recently was another steal because they got a former Top 10 pick for nothing.

Fact: Josh McDaniels is a ******* horrible little douchebag of a man.

I feel so sorry for Broncos fans.

My Bears may have to be scared of the Lions in 3 years or so. They're making some great moves since the management overhaul.

Gotta wait till next season! It's a ritual to systematically alienate and then trade our best player, but only one per season.

Well we dont want your pity! Denver is a nicer city than Chicago, and the Broncos are still better than your Bears.

The Lions are going to be a solid team next year if Matthew Stafford plays well.

The Bears could easily finish in the basement of the NFC North in 2010.

It would be different for a guy like Casserly who has at least made some very smart decisions, but what great draft pick has Millen made? What has he done to show he's an evaluator of talent?

I'll never understand why people are still paying him to talk football so we are forced to listen to what he has to say.

I just don't understand it.
Tony Scheffler is an average TE who gets injured every year who can make some nice catches every now and then.
How the heck does that relate to Josh McDaniels getting rid of awesome talent?
Brandon Marshall secured his own exit by acting like an immature kid.

You got rid of a starting TE and traded your 7th for a 5th rounder. Face it, the bronco's lose in this trade.

Not a single player from any of the 2002-2006 drafts is still a Detroit Lion now that we traded Sims. Sorry, after completely throwing away five consecutive drafts I definitely don't give a **** what he has to say.

not a single player from five drafts held this decade still on the team. I'm struggling to comprehend just how incredibly bad that is.

the combination of players mcdaniels has now run out of town equates to 'awesome talent'. again, that doesn't mean it wasn't the right thing to do.
I guess it's like Ernie Sims in Detroit. He was terrible for us, but maybe it was just the scheme holding him back. I doubt it. In fact I'm pretty much sure that this is something Eagle fans are telling themselves. Anyway, if a player does not fit the scheme, get anything. But this is very very little they got back for a guy who does have talent and has played well in the past.

Daniel Graham is the Broncos starting TE.
And a 7th round pick? Woah, big deal here!
I'm just upset because people are acting like the Broncos traded a Pro Bowl TE for nothing.
What they did was trade an average TE for his street value, which would be a 5th/6th round pick.
The Broncos don't necessarily lose, because they traded for what his street value is.
If Santonio Holmes only nets a 5th, how can you expect Scheffler to net more.

That really is truly epic. I knew things got bad up there, but I didn't imagine it was even possible for Millen to be that bad. You'd think throwing a dart at a draft guide could find you at least one guy who'd stick.

Especially when you consider how terrible the current Lions are. You don't have to be very good to be starting.

Millen's ineptness sometimes make me sit back and question how good the some of the current Lions players are. Like for example, is DeAndre Levy actually a very good linebacker or is he just so much better than Ernie Sims that he looks that way?

Millen, did some horendous management of this team, thru so many years. But that does not mean anyone who is bad can come in and start for the team. Millen is no longer here, and this team is getting better. There not going to pick up any bum and insert him as a starter, not any longer. Mayhew is a real GM!

Not sure how I ended up back in this thread - but this has basically turned into the Broncos trading Scheffler for Perrish Cox. Based on the preseason and needs - I would say that this is looking like a pretty damn fine trade for McD.
