If you had to rename "football"...
What would you call it?
As the World Cup nears its start, I'm mindful of the "football" known by the rest of the world, which makes sense because soccer really is a sport of the feet.
American "football" is a misnomer no matter how you look at it. Now, I'm not about to challenge its use, but I think it's interesting to ponder what else it should've been/could be called instead. What do you think?

Maybe "Campball" after Walter Camp. Although, that makes me hungry for soup. Wikipedia states that outside the US, many people refer to the game as "gridiron"

Good luck with that. Getting the entire world to change the name of the only sport the whole world, outside of the USA, cares about, it's a tough challenge...

Gridiron sounds stupid as hell. The National Gridiron league? That just sounds like some tools trying to make something seem all tough and rugged and going overboard with it. Seriously though that sounds like its on the same level as the XFL, WWE and TNA.

Hmm looking at the model used for baseball and basketball I guess the objective of the game has to be in there somewhere. It would probably end up being something like:
- touchdown
- touchdown ball
- yardball
- endzone
- endzone ball
ps. My iPhone attempted to correct my spelling for yardball into 'hardball' lol how does that sound.
Also, I agree gridiron sounds so stupid. (so does my aforementioned suggestions)

Im ok with calling it American Football and calling soccer, soccer. There are loads of sports with the word football in the title that isn't all about kicking the ball.
Rugby football
Gaelic football
Australian Rules football etc
As long as there is the option of kicking the ball call it football

Grid-Iron is good.
Tackle-ball and Scrimmage-ball were the best original ideas I could think of.

You'd likely want to keep it starting with an "F" to keep the NFL in tact.
I say Favreball.

Eh, just march an army into any country who refuses to call the "other" game "soccer" and tell them things are about to change....I'd like to see any of them actually stop us.
MUAHAHA!!!
