Ed Bouchette said that out of the top 3 FA's for us (Ike, Woodley, Colon), the most likely to leave is actually Woodley, because he could possible get "Albert Haynesworth money" from another team. Also because we drafted Worilds, who can replace him.
I agree with all the previous posts. I'd love to have Rogers and Hampton together...would be beastly. And ive always liked Anderson as a 5-tech too, he's much better suited there than he is at his current LE/DT hybrid position.
We signed Wes Lyons to a contract. He played high school here in Pittsburgh, went to West Virginia. He plays WR/TE. He's 6'8 245 pounds and can really jump.

This Wes Lyons guy has unreal measurables, but he must be uncoachable or something, way too many people have passed him over. Undrafted, didn't stick with Jets, nobody else picked him up since.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think he'll just be another camp body. Hopefully he can prove something in the preseason and land a PS spot.
Ive heard Chilo Rachal might get dropped by the 9ers, i know the Steelers and me personally loved him coming out of college. I know he hasnt played great for their system, but he might work in ours. He is basically like Willie Colon, but bigger and more athletic. If everyone wants Colon at RG, we might aswell take a punt on a guy just like him, but actually does play RG.
9ers dumping Chilo? Bet the ranch on it.
He lacks punch, lacks quickness, has size but doesnt use it to his best advantage, gets pushed back into the QB's face on 3rd & long way too often, the guy's a walking collapsible pocket. Singletary counseled & coddled him in 09, eventually benching him, & he didnt show a whole lot of improvement last yr, having horrible games vs. KC, Seattle, Indy, & others.
I would rethink picking up Rachal just b/c he will come cheaply.

I've heard its injuries, but who knows, allot of players just get passed over, ala James Harrison.
In my upmost opinion, I would look at the offensive side of the ball in free agency, and then go for the defense in the draft. If an offensive player that we are high on and one with great value drops to us, we have to take him. Here is my opinion on what I would do this offseason:
RESIGN:
OLB LaMarr Woodley
- One of the best young OLBs in the game. No brainer.
CB Ike Taylor
- Our best cover guy. We NEED to resign him. Number 1 on the list.
OT Willie Colon
- Gets a lot of flack, but one of our better offensive linemans and one of the better ones in the league.
S Ryan Mundy
- Played well when his number got called. I think he has a future here.
NT Chris Hoke
- One more year.
QB Dennis Dixon
- Could get a look at as a potential starter, but I think we keep him for another year due to his raw tools.
C/G Doug Legursky
- Personally, I’m not a fan of Legs, but he showed more than enough in the Super Bowl to have back.
TE Matt Spaeth
- Solid blocker and solid receiver. Should be back on a small contract.
I left off Mewelde Moore, Daniel Sepulveda, William ***, Anthony Madison, Keyaron Fox, and Nick Eason.
Moore- Although he is very consistent and a very good receiver out of the backfield, he lacks the explosiveness running the ball. I do not have the confidence in him if Mendenhall were to go down with a long term injury.
Sepulveda- One of the better punters in the league, but is always hurt. We can find consistency at the punter position that isn’t always hurt.
***- Now he isn’t a bad corner, he just cannot be put on the outside. If he comes back at a small rate, I will love to have him back. That said, I’ll move on and have a free agent or rookie take the job.
Madison- Great special teamer and improving at the cornerback position, but I believe Crezon Butler can have more potential on the cornerback position and play above average in the special teams department.
Fox- I love Keyaron. He is a very good special teams player and could start whenever we need him to. That said, I don’t think we need him to and he would want to start. If he can accept that role of being a back up and special teamer, then I’d welcome him back. If not, let Stevenson Sylvester work his way up the depth chart.
Nick Eason- Has improved over the years to a very solid backup. That said, we need more talent and younger bodies on the line.
CUT:
WR Antwaan Randle El
- Like the guy, but I’m not paying him solid money to be the number 5 or 6 WR.
WR Arnez Battle
- Special teams guy only.
LB Larry Foote
- I love Foote, but we need more talent on the middle linebacking core and he’s not getting any younger. Plus, we could use his 3 million elsewhere that improves our ballclub.
K Shaun Suisham
- Didn’t play TOO bad when we signed him, but he looked real shaky in the Super Bowl in a dome. He’s too hot and cold for my liking.
RETIRE:
OT Flozell Adams
- Played very well his only season in Pittsburgh. I wanted him to go out on top and win it for him. With his 4 or 5 million left on the books, I could see him retiring or we end up cutting him. Would love to have him back.
QB Charlie Batch
- Will be a QB coach in the NFL. Great for our team and great for our city. Class guy. He will be missed.
Sign Via Free Agency:
CB Champ Bailey
- Although he’s going to be 33 this season, Champ still has the lockdown ability. If he will take a little less money to play for a potential champion, I believe we may be able to land him. Champ and Ike will give the Steelers a great duo for next season.
RB Cadillac Williams
- Has injury concerns and might not have the explosiveness he had earlier in his career, but is a very solid pass catcher and still has some of that speed and power. Could be a really good third down back for the Steelers and could spell Mendenhall quite a bit.
G Harvey Dahl
- He’s 30, but he’s still a pretty good OLman. He is such a nasty run blocker and a pretty solid pass- blocker. He may command a big contract, but he’s worth it on the right side. He’d be our last piece of a very, very nasty run blocking crew for Mendenhall and company.
DE Marcus Spears
- Hasn’t had the career he would like, but a very solid backup. He plays the run extremely well and can even collapse the pocket at times.
OLB Antwan Barnes
- I’ve always have been a fan of Antwan Barnes. I think he could be a good situational pass rusher and special teams demon. He’s only 26, so his upside can still be had.
DRAFT:
1) Jimmy Smith CB Colorado
- He just might not be available with this pick, but in my opinion, he’s the best option for what we plan on doing on defense. He can learn behind two great vets in Bailey and Ike and take over for Bailey when he leaves.
2) Jerrell Powe NT Ole Miss
- We need a successor for Hampton badly. Powe doesn’t offer much as a pass rusher, but he can hold the point well and will let our LBs get to the football.
3) Nate Irving LB NC State
- One of my personal favorites in this draft. He plays the run extremely physically and can drop into coverage real well. Will start out at special teams, but can eventually take over for James Farrior.
4) Julius Thomas TE Portland State
- Very athletic. Played basketball most of his college career, so he’s raw when it comes to football. Could be the next Antonio Gates. Gives Ben another solid weapon.
5) Greg Romeus DE Pittsburgh
- Back problems and potential lazy card may push Romeus down to this spot. That’s no biggie to me IMO. All I know is that he has a great frame to add more weight and can get after the quarterback. He could be Brett Keisel volume 2.
6) Joseph Barksdale OT LSU
- Seems like every year there is a LSU OT that gets high praise beginning of the year, to only slip on draft day. I see Barksdale as that player. While he has everything you want in a tackle, but is kind of soft and might not be able to stay at tackle. I believe he has a lot of potential, though.
7) DeAndre Brown WR Southern Mississippi
- Honestly one of the most talented WRs in this draft. What makes him drop this far is his injury concerns, attitude concerns, and his character concerns. Why do I have him in this draft then? Because he’s talented and worth the risk of a 7th rounder IMO. He is so big and so fast that if he gets his head on straight, he could be a steal for the Steelers down the road. Will compete with Limas Sweed and Tyler Grisham for the final WR spot in the active roster.

Just been looking up the forgotten man in last years draft...Chris Scott.
Anyone think he could have an impact on the team next year?
6'5" 340lbs, monster run blocker and has a nasty punch. Played LT at Tenn so he is obviously agile. Could he be in the plans at RG? Pretty much the same player as Marcus Cannon, but we got him in the 5th.
