I'd like to team to take a look at Bob Sanders and O.J. Atogwe, who were both released today.

Both guys are 29, not very old, but Sanders is very, very injury prone; Atogwe not so much.

Atogwe would undoubtedly be more expensive, but he's a good safety who causes a surprisingly high amount of turnovers. In 6 years in the league, he's caused 22 INT's and 16 forced fumbles.

I know it seems that everytime someone is released people immediately start thinking about them, but we need better safety depth, and I believe that Atogwe could immediately push Clark back to a reserve role, and be just as good (at least) right from the get-go.

not gonna happen, both are great players but we just locked up clark last season and we have many more pressing needs other than safety

If he comes back, and I'm sure he will, Flozell Adams will start at RT, which will move Colon, if they resign him and I'm sure they will, to RG. I will love it.

PPG blog. We still would need depth and I'd still take a OT in the first if a top one falls. I think Derrick Sherrod would be an excellent pick at 31. But corner will more than likely be the pick depending on who is there.

Yeah i agree man, as awesome as it would be to have twins on the o-line, i have alot of players rated above him...

Gabe Carimi
Derrick Sherrod
Jimmy Smith
Brandon Harris

specifically.

Possibly; Aaron Williams, Marcus Cannon and Phil Taylor too.

Yeah, I like Carimi and all, but I believe he is better suited at RT in the NFL. Sherrod CAN and WILL play LT in the NFL. I'd give him a year or so to watch on the bench, then in 2012 have him start at LT or RT.

QUICK MOCK 2.0:

1: Jimmy Smith - CB - Colarado
2: Marcus Cannon - OG/OT - TCU
3: Jerrell Powe - NT - Ole Miss
4: Ahmad Black - S - Florida
5: Derrick Locke - RB - Kentucky
6: Josh Bynes - ILB - Auburn
7: David Mims - OT - Virginia Union

Probably abit optimistic, but stranger things have happened!

A little mock:

1) Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi State
2) Ras-I Dowling CB Virginia
3) Jerrell Powe NT Ole Miss
4) Julius Thomas TE Portland State
5) Shareece Wright CB USC
6) David Carter DE UCLA
7) Graig Cooper RB Miami(Fla)

That would leave 2012 with needs of OG, S, MLB, DE, and depth throughout.

Willie Colon's agent stated there's little chance he returns to Pitsburgh, according to Ed Bouchette.

We don't need him. Need to upgrade the right side either way. RG and RT. I'm eying the guy from Nova for either position.

Also Colon figures he won't get his job back and would have to compete for it. I don't mind him leaving, saves us money. I can see a rookie coming in and competing just as much against Flo as Colon would.

Since Champ re-uped in Denver, my number 1 want for a free agent corner is now Richard Marshall. He'd kill it here in Pittsburgh. He fits a Pittsburgh corner to a T IMO.

As far as Colon, he can leave. Yeah he's a pretty good player, but I'd be extremely happy with Flo at RT and a FA/rookie at G.

If Chris Gamble is cut, he'd be my #1. Very likely out of our price range, but that guy is a baller.

Also, I want to see how Chris Scott plays in preseason, see if he can stick at OT or will kick in to guard.

Marshall is a tackling machine. Gamble would be nice as well, both young a great players with a ****** pass rush.

But Gamble is going to command a lot of money. Though he could be looking for a winning team that is thin at cb and that would help us out a lot. We haven't had success at drafting cb and that has put us in the whole. If we can pick up one key FA like that, it would help a shitt ton in the draft.

WalterFootball's new mock has us drafting pretty solid IMO:

1) Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi State
2) Ras-I Dowling CB Virginia
3) Sione Fua NT Stanford
4) Richard Sherman CB/FS Stanford
5) Jah Reid OT/OG UCF

I'd have no problems with that draft. Not flashy, but solid players all around.

Also, rumor going around we might use the transition tag on Ike Taylor. We'll see what happens.

I don't care what they do to make it happen, Ike and Woodley have to be on this team next year.

According to the PPG they have begun preliminary talks with Ike but have stated to this point that they will not use the transition tag on him. Still, this does leave me optimistic that they can reach an agreement with Ike given that Woodley has at least signed his Franchise tender which gives them a year to work out a deal with him so they can concentrate on Ike now.

all this mike pouncey talk about him going mid first likehis brother is interesting to me..

he played center this year.. or at least tried to, he really is only a starting NFL guard

he is a really good, smart, athletic player like his brother.. but if it wernt for his brother he would be a late first round pick AT BEST

too bad someone will reach for him in the first because of his bros and our success
