Jeremiah Masoli possibly transferring to Ole Miss
I know this belongs in the Transfers thread but I thought he was a high enough profile name to get his own thread.
Quote:
the former Oregon quarterback has sent his scholarship release papers to the University of Mississippi.
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt confirmed to the Memphis newspaper that he has received Masoli's paperwork. Nutt said a week ago that he had no interest in bringing Masoli into his program.
Because Masoli has completed his undergraduate degree at Oregon, he is eligible to transfer and play this season.

Fast-forward to a few days ago: Ole Miss quarterback Raymond Cotton leaves the team to go to South Alabama's startup football program. This leaves Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt in a bind, as he only has two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster—sophomore Nathan Stanley and JUCO transfer Randall Mackey.
The announcement of Cotton's departure came with the news that Masoli sent Ole Miss his scholarship release papers, meaning if Coach Nutt will allow it, Masoli will be eligible to transfer to Ole Miss, provided he enrolls in a graduate program Oregon does not offer.

Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone said there’s “no timetable for a (Masoli) decision” as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
“there’s not one thing we’re worried about or that’s holding this up. We’re discussing several different issues.”
“In athletics, we always want to get things done quickly. But we have to do our research.”

I know NUtt said he had no interest in Masoli, but you better believe he's going to have increased pressure to accpet him especially from the Boosters, the AD and the fans because let's face it, he's pretty good and College Football is a religion in the South.

I was unaware of the transfer loophole that Masoli falls into.
He is allowed to transfer (because he has completed his undergraduate studies) without sitting out a season to any school as long as the degree program he selects isn't offered at Oregon.

Yeah we've been talking about this a little in the SEC thread, this changes everything for Ole Miss next year. From a pure football standpoint this is amazing but we've been adding some bad character guys lately and in turn have been getting some bad press.
**** it, zone read all day!
Two pre-season SI covers from 2009:
Just ignore that whole preseason rankings bit, when we win the NC this year with a rent a thug QB college football will never be the same. In all seriousness if we end up being better this year than we were last year, that would be so ridiculously surprising but awesome

didn't they have a dual threat (running qb) before sneed?
EDIT: looked it up. Brent Schaeffer. That's who it was.
but then again it was when ogeron was still head coach.

You should be proud of your school for embodying everything that the SEC stands for.
Kidding aside, Masoli would be in for a major culture shock in Mississippi vs the west coast.

And so it begins!

Former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli is expected to be admitted to one of three graduate programs at the University of Mississippi, which should make him eligible to play as early as this season, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Masoli would have to walk on at Ole Miss as he would not be granted a scholarship, the source said. But Masoli, a good student, would be eligible to possibly receive a reduced tuition cost.
Masoli is expected to make a formal visit to Ole Miss as soon as this weekend, the source said.

Since UGA doesnt play Ole Miss this year I like the move. Everyone as Ole Miss picked at the bottom of the west anyway with this I think they get atleast 1 more SEC win they would have got without him. At the worst he should be a good wildcat QB and provide depth with just 2 scholorship QB's
