Bengals lost Leon Hall and Geno Atkins. Around the same time. Middle of the season.
No one bitched and complained.

We played most of the season with a shuffled OL, back up RG, LG and LT
We played without our nickle LBs the entire season.

It isn't an excuse. If you don't have the depth to overcome injuries (QB excluded in most cases) then blame your GM/HC/Owner but don't act like it is an excuse for an under performing team. Get mad at the GM and coach for not being able to stockpile talent and build a team from the ground up. Depending on a few key players to win games is dumb and a sure fire way to have everything collapse with the loss of a few guys.

The Bengals lost a top 10 CB and the best 4-3 DT.
Still had a top defense because of coaching and depth.

Get mad at the people who build your team, not the injuries.

If it did make a difference, it was a valid reason for many struggles.
Define "excuse" and define "reason".

Teams that were healthier did better on average, as always.
Teams that were demolished with injuries did worse, as always.

I think those are legitimate, obvious reasons. Which some might call excuses.

Forget the word, they are reasons. Some injuries cannot be overcome. Obviously.

The article YOU just linked contradicts that. The 16 teams with the most injuries had more playoff teams than the 16 with the least injuries.

False. Look deeper a that within those stats.
You can't just look at missed games.
You have to look at WHO those players are.

You think missing JULIO JONES or ROBB GRONKOWSKI, AARON RODGERS, VINCE WILFORK, is the same as missing a mediocre starting DT or CB?

Come on now. You're better than that S-T.

That's all fine & dandy in theory, but you can't expect to have someone else as good as Eli behind him, or Rodgers.
Brady, Manning, etc.

That's just impossible.

When Brady went down, or Peyton, Rodgers, it's screw city.
If Brees or Eli ever get hurt for the year early or mid-season, their seasons are over.
No matter who their coach is.

Bledsoe-Brady and Simms-Hostetler are serious exceptions and those were yesterday times in the NFL where the pass wasn't as important as these days.
