id say woodson only because the packers will put him in at the safety spot on some plays just to give him a chance to get into the box, who else does that with their star cornerback

Woodson, but I think Champ in his prime was clearly the best.

Ha!^ For the record, currently, I said Woodson, based primarily on last season. But when healthy, which hasn't been too often of late, and likely won't be, given the way he sacrifices his body, Winfield has no peer.

I think that Delhomme clip might be more embarrassing for all the Skins players that didn't even look at Delhomme, while he was running for the first down.
As for the homer pick, I think Charles Tillman is underrated against the run, but I don't think he should be on the same list as Winfield, Brown or Flowers. If Winfield was bigger, then he would be the best, but since he's had trouble staying healthy thanks to his smaller frame, so I will have to go with Sheldon Brown.

Your skin absorbs the water, making you weigh more. Hence Ike Taylor only weighing about 190 soaking wet means he is really skinny.

Antoine Winfield is an easy pick in this.
In defense of the other corners, Winfield is basically a midget linebacker playing corner.
Honestly if we didn't have EJ Henderson at MLB, Winfield would be our biggest hitter behind outside the front 4.

pretty much ever since he came out of college, it seems like every corner who is great in run support gets compared to winfield, especially if they're small. I don't think there's a better open field tackler at cornerback and he's like 5'9"/180.

Ike Taylor is amazing in run support. Dick LeBeau has said many times that he's the best tackling corner, and I'll trust his judgment.

ok i can see how winfield can be mentioned but pp seriously it has to be woodson and its not just because im a packer fan. Woodson was being considered to be moving to safety when he left oakland because of his superb open field tackling and coverage insticts. He is what made the defense work in green bay last year. Capers would end up taking out a safety and would use woodson in his place as an extra defender in the box and lock onto the tightend. sorry but no one else is close to woodsons skills

Ike Taylor better be good at tackling, because no passing offense is afraid to throw at him. In fact, he is the most targeted DB in the NFL.

Quarterbacks have gone after the seventh-year corner a 90 times this season, more than any other defender in the NFL.

His coverage instincts and ability to lock onto a TE has no relevance to his ability in run support though. Woodson is definitely a top CB against the run but I would still put Winfield above him.

misleading...last year shouldnt be a reference point for his talent, he was getting no help on the other side and didnt get abused like william *** did. ike is no doubt on the downside of his career but at his best he was shutting down the best WRs week in and week out. hes always been a beast in run support though

srry ment to say there able to allow him to lock down the tightend and be up in the box like a safety because they trust his run tackling ability

That is the truth.
In fact you could take the words 'run support' out of the title and change 'in the league' for 'of all time'

Winfield when healthy. Guy is outstanding and I hope he stays healthy for all to enjoy.

Woodson was being considered for a switch to safety because he wasn't able to stay healthy at cornerback and because they thought he'd be less of a headache if they asked less responsibility of him.
Woodson is a good tackler, but he's not this clear cut above anybody else, and he's defintely a cut below Winfield. I voted other because I maintain that Asomugha is easily a top 5 tackler at corner. I know a lot of people rate him highly based on reputation because they don't Oakland play much, but considering Aso has only gotten 25-30 throws his way each of the past few years, he's actually been arguably a bigger playmaker in the run defense than in the passing game.

Just to be clear - You believe Aso is superior in run D than Winfield? I'm not arguing either way as you are correct i certainly haven't forced myself to watch many Raider games, but i just want to identify if you believe Aso is #1.

No, I don't. Winfield is a has better form and takes out guys' legs better and I would be inclined to entertain the argument that he's tracks the ball better in traffic.
What I'm saying is that I can't think of more than 3 or 4 cornerbacks who are clearly better tacklers than Nnamdi.
