The general public is very likely against it and are interested in it. I strongly expect that is the big reason why Goodell is going for suspension, to help the NFL image.

Media companies tell their writers, talking heads to talk about it. If the general public is really for suspensions the media companies wouldn't want all their writers to be against it. I don't know if they specifically tell them, if they know or it just happens that those people are against it.

Yeah, I saw that segment with Bruschi on sportscenter.
He was demonstrating a tackle on Mort, showing him completely twist his body and head, so he's not even looking at Mort, and hitting him with his shoulder/back area. When in the world are you supposed to tackle like that?

Also, the NFL has to be careful in the number of suspensions they hand out. If they dish them out too frequently, more and more people will look at the NFL as a joke, and see it as two-hand touch.

If Harrison draws a suspension he should raise hell with his NFLPA Steelers team rep & file a grievance with the NFL -- in both his knockout hits Sunday no flag was thrown.

He may be guilty of headhunting but the NFL is guilty of arbitrary officiating & that has a much more damaging effect in teams' W-L rcds.

They threw a flag, but also heap came back in, while all the other clean hits had players leave the game unable to play. This is why I think theres an overreaction to this whole thing.

Yeah I really dont think the Welker his was as big as people thought. However the Boldin hit a few years ago was most certainly deserving of a fine, no one cried about changing the rules then.

**** all these ****** players saying there needs to be suspensions. Ok rodney harrison im sure if you were still playing you would be all for giving out suspensions. This is such a joke that after 4 plays they are throwing a fit about this. Never did think that out of all the commentators that i would end up agreeing with matt millen and tim hasslebeck. Just heard that robinson was fined 50 grand? what a ******* joke.

Not only that, if you try to tackle like that YOU"LL be the one who gets seriously hurt or just gets run over. You wont even need to juke, I would of loved for people to try and tackle me in high school like that.

Just heard on NFLN that Harrison got $75K for the Massoquai hit and Robinson got $50K. Should be interesting to see how this goes in the future, whether these are reduced penalties, because they were before the warning.

75k is a joke...Harrison was commited to the tackle, its not like you can pull up when youre traveling at 15mph, half a second away from impact. Massaqoi should have known better, hit the ******* deck.

I think the Merriweather hit would warrant a suspension in the future, it was blatant and obvious. Those are the two things that the refs will be told to look at.

The world is filled with choices. The NFL has every right to try and make the jobs of their employees safer. If James Harrison doesn't like the new rules, no one is going to force him to stay in the NFL. At the same time, no one is forcing you as a fan to watch the NFL if you don't like their rules.

I see no problem with the NFL trying to make the game safer and eliminate serious injuries. I imagine that the NFL is going to review all helmet-to-helmet hits before just handing out suspensions. I have a hard time believing that minor or accidental helmet-to-helmet contact is really going to warrant a suspension. A fine really isn't much money compared to what these players make. It's not enough of a punishment or deterrent. Sure, accidents do happen but there are still players who are intentionally leading with their heads and right now there is no reason for them to stop.

Some of these future suspensions wouldn't matter. In this case a guy like Dunta Robinson (defender) suffered a concussion so he would likely miss the next game anyways.

Again the players are the one suffering yet are we hearing any of the current players ***** and ask for this rule change? No were not, not a single one. I watch the NFL because of my love of football, and I am going to ***** about this because it's a football forum and I dont want to see something I love get dumbed down because of over reaction.

How do we know if a guy is leading with their helmet/head? Sometimes it's hard to tell if their shoulder is forward or if it's their head.
If their eyes are facing down, that's a rock solid clue that the head will be leading. Although some are stumps (Urlacher), everyone has a neck.. the head always leads the shoulders if their eyes are facing downward.

Does it matter what his intentions are?
Nope. It's not intent that makes a difference to the guy getting his head smashed. Hpw often does a guy say yes he was trying to injure the guy? Never. But they're well aware the damage that can result and they still do it.

What's the big deal anyway?
Players get injured enough the way it is from regular action in this physical game (ask Packers, Eagles fans right now).
The NFL owes it to it's players, their health, the league, and the fans to do the feasible things they can to cut down any injuries when possible, just like the horse collar, chop blocks, low hits at QBs knees, etc. That's also why they went from rock hard artificial turf to the new field turfs.

What should the penalties be for the guys who keep using their rocks as weapons on defenseless receivers and runners?
2 game suspension for first offense going forward
4 game suspension for 2nd offense
8 game suspension for 3rd offense
16 game suspension for 4th offense
Lifetime ban for 5th offense
