VY played on great teams at Texas with many of those teammates still earning paychecks in the NFL.

Cam's Auburn team is not a NC or SEC title contender without Newton.

With Newton, Auburn has won high scoring games, but very few blowouts where their D simply stoned the opposing offense.

Given, VY was great against USC, but IMO Cam has had similar performances multiple times this season for Auburn, coming from behind to win games.

That might be true if you're drafting a 400 pound outside tackle, but we're talking quarterbacks here. The one single position that you can't apply that sort of logic to.

But there was absolutely nothing about his game that translated to being a pro QB. Absolutely nothing. His throwing motion was one of the slowest and worst I've ever seen, his arm strength wasn't anything spectacular, his accuracy was average at best, the way he runs would get him killed in the pros, almost nothing from his college system translates to the pro game......I could go on.

But those intangibles man. I truly wonder if the Broncos didn't take him, where he would have gone. I remembe reading some rumors that the Bills might have moved up for him, or at worst taken him where they were in round 2.....but they denied it after the draft iirc.

McD and the Broncos is all it took to make him a first rounder.

It's funny how we've never heard about Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, etc. making these dumb mistakes, cheating, getting arrested, etc. I guess Roethlisberger is the exception but they are few and far between. Quarterbacks need to be held to a different standard.
You would have never known about Newton cheating if someone didn't break federal law and release his academic records without his consent.

I'll bet you hundreds of do-good NFL players who never got in any trouble have cheated and even got caught cheating in college. Do you have proof that Peyton Manning did all his school work?

I highly doubt every great QB that has played in the NFL was an angel growing up and never made any mistakes or bad decisions. In fact I would be willing to bet a large sum of money on it.

EDIT: And if anything, the way he's been able to come in for 1 year and master this offense says that he IS willing to put the time and effort in.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I didn't like Tebow as a pro prospect, I thought he was overdrafted, and I still seriously question his ability to ever be a successful NFL quarterback. I was just saying its unfair to assume Newton will be drafted as high because he's surpassed Tebow, because Tebow was taken so high because of his proficiency in the one department Newton doesn't measure up to him.

Yet nothing comes out on most and we already have a ton of dirt on Newton.

If this is just the stuff we know, how much must there be under the surface?

I see a lot of talk about what Cam Newton "can be" but how many quarterbacks with his style have had success in the NFL? And Michael Vick doesn't count because he's a different type of player. Vince Young would probably be held up as the best-case scenario and while his win / loss record is respectable look at what's happened to his career in Tennessee. Perhaps Cam Newton will defy the odds and be a one-of-a-kind player, but personally I'd rather go with a style that I know is successful.
This is why extremely talented players slip in the draft. Its because they dont fit the cookie cutter. Why do you think guys like Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, and several other succesful QB slid. His off the field character may be "questionable" but I attribute it to being immature because his on field character is terrific. His teammates rally around him, Chizik swears by him you can tell by looking at his body from now to his freshman year that he has a work ethic. You can see him identify safeties and determine his read off of the that. Plus he's already had to deal with an immense amount of pressure with the allegations looming over his head and he's handled it with terrific poise. There are many ways to play the QB position and just because his style isnt protypical doesnt mean he will not succeed.

Cam Newton is a player. He has elite arm strength and good accuracy, to go with his outstanding pocket presence and escapability. With the comparison to Vince Young, I'm sorry but Vince never showed this type of throwing ability and even Gary Danielson (game commentator) agrees with that sentiment and Newton is every bit the athlete except 20lbs heavier. Just because there is nobody to compare him to from the past doesnt mean he's not going to succeed. If I'm a team in the top 15 and I have QB questions and Andrew Luck and Jake Locker are off the board. I'm definitely calling his name before Ryan Mallet. Just my 2 cents.

In todays society where nearly everyone, if not everyone, has internet access and a greater ability to distribute information than ever, we hear about that stuff and it only makes sense we heard it about Newton. This isn't a case of an innocent college kid slipping up and making a few mistakes along the way from not thinking his actions through. This has happened multiple times. If everyone else was doing it, we would be hearing about it for them too...yet we aren't.

Name me another college player that has had as big a smear campaign against him than Newton. There is stuff to find on every player; however, nobody has gone to the effort to dig **** up like they have against Newton. Thayer Evans who broke the academic cheating story is literally stalking him. He is calling Auburn professors, wives of Auburn professors. I have no idea who is paying him to smear against Auburn; but the effort he is putting is frightening (and not surprising considering his ex-wife has a restraining order against him).

I agree with that.

Newton is a much better passer, although he too will face a big transition to an NFL offense.

Tebow had impeccable intangibles while that is a major question mark with Newton.

Not gonna lie, Cam threw some pretty balls today. Deep balls were on point, now if he can start acting like a professional.. the kid could be something special.

It's not a smear campaign if it's true.

The Auburn offense isn't hard to master. All Cam Newton does is look to see if his number one receiver is open. If he is, throw it. If not, run the ball. And he doesn't have to read the defense. Just line up, look at the coach, and then call the play. Anyone QB in the nation could do that. If I'm drafting a guy, I want him to be able to read the defense, look to a second or third receiver, and make the play rather than relying on his athleticism, because that won't work in the NFL.
