Default 2014 Training Camp Thread

With camps officially open, I thought this would be a more appropriate place to discuss the upcoming developments concerning every team. Also a place to post photos and maybe video segments from camp.

Andre Johnson has reported to camp.

Quote:
Andre Johnson's offseason-long standoff with the Houston Texans is over.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday, per a person who has seen Johnson, that the star wide receiver has shown up for the opening of training camp.

Johnson actually passed his physical a few days ago, a source informed of the situation tells Rapoport. He's ready to go after missing the entirety of offseason practices.

"I just love playing the game of football," Johnson told reporters Friday. "It's my job to make up for the time that I missed. I'm gonna work my butt off, like I always do."

Rapoport reported, per Texans sources, that Johnson had several conversations over the course of the summer with members of the Texans' brass, including owner Bob McNair.

Key among the issues that led Johnson to show up were the rapport he built with coach Bill O'Brien and the new staff. The organization learned Thursday that Johnson would show up, but didn't fully believe it until he arrived today.

Rapoport reported that there were no monetary promises to get Johnson to show up, which indicates he was not paid his $1 million bonus that he missed out on by not taking part in OTAs.

Johnson also received assurances about his own future in Houston relating to 2015, Rapoport reported, per a source briefed on those meetings. It was one of Johnson's desires to retire a member of the organization.

CB Ladarius Webb left Ravens practice early today with back spasms. Shouldn't be an issue going forward.

Steve Smith have looked great the last couple of days, torching everybody that has tried to cover him.

Poor Colts lose their best RB back again this year. Vick Ballard tore his Achilles today.

Kendall Hunter went down untouched today with an apparent knee injury. He walked off the field under his own power, but it is unknown how serious the injury might be.

We don't know that, yet. Plenty of players have walked off to have an MRI reveal a torn knee ligament.

Blake Bortles is already showing solid progression and had his best day of camp today. They are still saying Henne gives them the best chance to win but I'm really excited to see Blake play in the preseason.

I'm still confident in Hyde, Lattimore (if he heals mentally,) and even LaMichael James. But Kendall Hunter really is crazy underrated, in my opinion.

Frank Gore and a torn achilles really kept Hunter from getting the work, I feel he deserved. And now this.

Trent Baalke has already publicly said that he told Kendall and his agent that he wants Hunter back as a 49er next year.

Hunter is boss. I just wish Roman used him a lot better. Almost every time we ran with him it was a counter. No idea why.

The Hyde pick really is coming in handy right now. 8 was surprised at first but now I can see why they took him.

Gore is 31 and has some hard miles on him. I love him but i wouldn't be surprised to see him fall off hard in the next two years. Hunter was okay as a back up but honestly isn't special really. Lattimore isn't right physically or mentally currently and James is a lost cause.

Why would James be a lost cause? Hunter was a change of pace back. James can fill that role. Regardless of his gripes about playing time, he now has a opportunity so I expect him to make the most of it. And I think ppl are reading way too much into Lattimore not practicing. He had a lingering hamstring injury all through OTAs and mini-camp. That's why they're easing him back slowly. It has nothing to do with the knee. I think they don't want something else, like a Achilles to happen as a result of over-training in that leg, trying to strengthen the knee.

Great to hear how good Ward and the other CBs are looking....especially since everyone was sure Baalke goofed by passing on Roby.

Quote:
Cook continues to look good, especially when he gets his hands on his opponent. At 6-2, 212, he not only is bigger than all of the cornerbacks on the team, he's bigger than all of the safeties as well. Playing right cornerback, he didn't allow smaller David Reed to get up to speed on a deep sideline pass and the throw fell incomplete 15 yards ahead of the receiver.
Quote:
Tramaine Brock is the 49ers’ top cornerback and he looks very confident and smooth. Can you believe this guy was just a special teams player a year ago?
Quote:
First-round pick, defensive back Jimmie Ward, had a reputation at North Illinois as a ballhawk. I know why. He gets his hands on everything.
Quote:
3. Tramaine Brock. Nearly intercepted Blaine Gabbert during 11 on 11s. Gabbert dropped back, looked to his right and fired to Stevie Johnson. Brock broke early on the pass and jumped in front of Johnson. The ball bounced off Brock’s chest and fell to the grass.
Quote:
4. Jimmie Ward. I haven’t seen him give up a completion during team drills yet. He’s intense during practice, one of the most competitive players on the field. Today he batted away a deep pass from Josh Johnson intended for Jon Baldwin during 11 on 11s. On one play during seven on sevens, Ward covered Stevie Johnson in the slot. Johnson tried to beat Ward to the inside. Ward read the route, shadowed Johnson and broke up the pass.
Quote:
Ward was sidelined for the offseason program after he underwent foot surgery in March, so today was the first opportunity for the media to see him in action. First impression: He is fast, active and his aggression makes it easy to see how he developed a reputation as a strong hitter at Northern Illinois despite his modest size (5-10, 193).
Quote:
The best way to describe Ward: rangy. He's got long arms and is quick in and out of his breaks, which is ideal for the nickel spot.

Sounds like Ben's arm is even stronger this year. I like the weapons he has this year. Their offense should be really freaking good this year.

Heard Aaron Donald is looking unreal. Who are D's going to double on the Rams D-line? Brockers? Quinn? Long? Donald?

Langford is pretty underrated, so I'm sure Donald will see mainly passing downs, which will keep him really fresh. I pity the bigger, slower OG's who have to block him 1v1. He will be in the backfield before they get out of their stance.

The reason why inside pressure is key is, it stops QB's from stepping up in the pocket. We all know Quinn and Long can get around the edges, especially Quinn, but if the QB can't step up, there's nowhere to go.

Also, the Rams played played off the receivers by 5-10 yards last year, which allowed QB's the hot read underneath. Mainly from rookie DC Walters. New DC Greg Williams will have none of that, which will make the Rams pressure from the DL even more effective.

Press coverage + huge pass rush = success

This year sounds promising this year.

DeSean Jackson looked pretty smooth. RG3 is still Bob. Hope he has a solid year. Can't wait for that dual practice with the Patriots that I'll be attending on the 4th.

Dee Milliner is so dumb. So dumb.
