I thought U2 going from their towering Joshua Tree & Rattle & Hum live album w/ all the great stuff that preceded it to Achtung Baby marked a noticeable decline inquality of material.
Other stuff coming out at the time by New Order & INXS was so much better, & even the declined & nearly gone Red Hot Chili Peppers marked a big return to form with Californication. And none of those allegedly had the talent of a U2.....

I'd love to be a teenager in the mid 90's. Just missed it. But the post-grunge era of music is my ****.

imo the '80s killed music. well, it was dying by the late '70s if not for punk, but it was finished off in the '80s. between 1967 and 1974 was when all the best music was made. the best beatles and stones music was made during that era coincidentally.

I disagree. Some of my favorite bands reigned during the 80's. The Pixies, The Smiths, The Cure and The Clash are all probably in my Top 10 favorite bands and all were present primarily in the 80's.

The 90's and 90's style music will be cool again this decade. It's a 20-year cycle. Last decade, 80's music made a comeback and the 70's made a comeback of sorts in the 90's.
During the 90's, I was all about Grunge, but am realizing how much I appreciate the whole alternative scene. Gin Blossoms, Live, Bush, Better Than Ezra, Spin Doctors, Marcy Playground, et al.

I agree it already has. Everyone in my class in college it seems is all about the '90s all a sudden.

yeah there were some bands like those you mentioned who were good from the '80s, but frankly that's the best they had in the 80s and it wasn't the pop music of the era for the most part. In the 60s/70s the pop music was really bangin', they had the Stones, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, the Beatles, the Who, CCR, the Allman Bros, the Dead, etc. So much legendary music then compared to every other era.

APS: All good there, especially the Clash, called by Rolling Stone (in 1980! on their cover) "the only band that matters." My heart broke when Strummer died. Could maybe throw in PSB's 101 dbl. album too, & the Smiths dissipated after Morrissey went solo, had his golden era in the early 90s when his ***, limp-wimpy stuff had some punch & mojo to it, Hairdresser On Fire is the gayest song ever but still makes me chuckle as a perfect parody Princess Diana London & the Sloan Rangers chic set. Loved the Pixies, & could throw in the underrated Toad the Wet Sprocket too.
When all the worthless Lolapaloozas & Ozfests were happening KROQ in LA sponsored a concert with the Cure at their zenith in about 1992 organized by Trent Reznor w/ 9 Inch Nails, most depressing gloomapalooza ever -- the local joke was calling Gloomstock, lol.
The Day the Music Died IMO was when Kurt Kobain did himself in & Nirvana & the grungies all kinda went away. Alice in Chains had a member die too, Soundgarden, Eddie Vedder & Smashing Pumpkins kept going but it just wasn't the same. Old classic rockers had formed & reformedagain with the Traveling Wilburys, but then the great Roy Orbison died -- arrgghh -- hard to complain when the replacement is Bob Dylan though.

never been a fan of either bands.
The Beatles are too sissy sounding and their music just annoys me.
The Rolling Stones are really good, just not my taste.
- Jimi Hendrix is where it's at fellas.
By the way, Led Zeppelin > Stones > Beatles
But Radiohead takes the cake for best band of all time. It goes like this for me.
1) Radiohead
2) Jimi Hendrix
3) Led Zeppelin
4) Pink Floyd
5) Rolling Stones

Bob Dylan wasn't a replacement for Roy Orbison. He was an original member of the Traveling Wilburys.

Man. That is about as tough of a question as there is.... Sympathy for the Devil gives the stones the edge for me. Barely.
