It is good to see Beatty on the field and looking decent early. That is a positive sign. Hopefully he can regain his 2012 form.

I actually think the zone blocking scheme will help him and that bringing in Schwartz at LG was to help Beatty.

In many ways I see it being similar to David Wilson when he was drafted, he needs to learn and earn his opportunities.

I fully expect to see Randle and Cruz as the starting outside guys with Jernigan in the slot. Beckham will be rotating in with these guys along with Manningham and Holliday (slot).
1) Hamstring injuries do linger in many cases.

2) That's not good...

3) If Trindon Holiday gets more than 10 snaps in the slot, I'd be shocked.

That's actually a concern of mine.
I think we plan to use Cruz in a similar manner to how the Packers use Randall Cobb.

Here is a little info

Quote:
What separates tiers of receivers are their ability and opportunity to score touchdowns. When it comes to touchdowns, bigger is usually better. Those 6'2''+, 210 pound receivers are able to use their frames to do something Cobb can't: outmuscle defensive backs for jump balls, slants and curls in the red zone. In his three years, Cobb has proven to be able to do something very few receivers his size haven't been able to do: score in or very near the red zone. Eight of his 13 career touchdowns receptions have come from 22 yards or less. This is a better rate than similarly-sized Victor Cruz and very close to that of mighty mite Wes Welker, whose last 14 touchdowns were from inside the red zone. Play calling, ability and an elite quarterback mean that Cobb should be able to record double-digit touchdowns, and that combined with catch totals that should be in excess of 80. Cobb is someone you can draft as a WR2 but who could end up out-producing your WR1.

http://www.fftoday.com/stats/players/11918/Randall_Cobb
I wouldn't be surprised to see Rueben Randle used in a similar way to Jordy Nelson and we have Jennings, Williams and Gaskins for that bruising Eddie Lacy style of role.

I am curious to see in camp of that is how things start shaping up.

I know the offense is moving to a west coast style of offense. I would still like to keep some of the deep passing game which worked under Gilbride (although perhaps with less reads). That was the strength of this offense under Gilbride.

With a strong ground game and good short to intermediate passing attack I think it would work well to stretch the field.

With better play calling and more legitimate options, it could work well.

Damn, we really didn't need ODB to go down. Hopefully its a few weeks and not months. I do have faith in our training staff though, they'll take proper precautions.

You are right in that we should not get too ahead of ourselves.
I think we are a better team than last year but I am waiting to see it on the field.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this team. We could be really good, really bad, or somewhere in btw. I really have no idea where we fall but there's potential to be very good and I'm hoping we reach it. I really think this scheme change is going to dramatically change the offense in a good way.

And after this report, fair or not, I can't get the rumors that he didn't like to practice out of my head.
I think we reached a little for ODB. I like him as a player, but we took him high. I hope it doesn't bite us in the butt.

That's what I'm expecting as well. That's how we should use him within this offense, but now they're saying he's gonna play the Z, which doesn't make sense to me. I want him in the slot and in the backfield.

I'm still annoyed by the ODB pick, and the injury is definitely not helping.

Martin just made so much more sense. Knowing what I knew then, I'd take Aaron Donald (Martin was my 2nd choice), but they knew how bad Snee's condition was and still passed on Martin, and that's a head scratcher to me.

If we took Martin, and Beatty bounces back (lawl), our young OL could've developed into one of the top units in the league over the course of the next 3-4 years.

Yeah I just don't know how we passed on OL fully knowing Snee was an injury ticking time bomb. I do think ODB will be a good player for us though.

You guys are all going be in love with ODB by about week 4. You might not know it yet, but you'll be very happy that you picked him.

Maybe we're all just overly optimistic that the scheme change is going to make skill players already on our roster look better than they have in the past (Randle, Jernigan, Robinson and Donnel) so ODB could potentially be a luxury pick. But that could be homeristic optimism on my part though.

As long as he can stay healthy, I expect ODB to be a good player, but the thing is, I also expect Martin to be a very good player as well. Martin could be a PB caliber G. We could use that just as much as a WR. If not more.

If Schwartz is naturally a better RG then LG, I'd rather him play at his dominant position and the other fight for time at the other.

I don't think Schwartz is really a "natural" anything since he can play all over. I like him at LG better next to Beatty.

Larry Donnell
Daniel Fells
Xavier Grimble
Kellen Davis
Adrien Robinson

First TE depth chart, not a good look for Adrien.

Could be a motivational tactic. I also like Donnell quite a bit, so it wouldn't shock me if he took the starting job this year.

I am quite ok with the OBD pick, he has the speed and experience and is a polished route runner.

I think we just need to slow down on our expectations. I think some are expecting him to be a superstar right of the bat.

He needs to adjust to the NFL and the system, there still a substantial learning curve. Bill Polian had it as one of the harder positions to transition from college to the NFL (along with QB, RB, DL and OL).

Nothing is going to be given to him and he has to earn whatever playing time he gets, which I don't think is a bad thing. The guy has talent and ability, give him time and lets see what he can do.
