Dude, I am a journalist. Don't try and educate my on what the media is and does.
But just because you don't believe it could happen for that reason, doesn't mean it can't.
I'm aware of all the arguments against Detroit in the east, but frankly, the NHL can't make its decisions based off things like that. It has to be done on a doctrine of fairness.
You want to keep balance, you say? Well, that's nice in theory, but it's not like the conferences were originally drawn up with that in mind. Toronto shifted conferences the last time there was realignment and they were an NHL superpower at the time (Original Six team, not the cellar-dwellers they've been lately).
You said it'd ruin Detroit's rivalry with Chicago? Maybe, but it'd rekindle a rivalry with Toronto and Montreal that died when the league decided teams would only play the other conference once a year.
You're just sounding ignorant for dismissing the possibility offhand. What exactly makes you more qualified to know what'll happen than the professionals who have access to the GM and owners meetings where this is discussed?
I'd still love to see your proposal for realignment.

Anze is filthy. Maybe even as good as Luke Adam.
Kings can't do much when he's not out there, though.

Dude, shut the **** up I couldn't give two shits if you're in journalism or not. I've taken plenty of communication and public relations classes and through experience with the media with teams I have worked for have learned that most of the **** they say is taken out of context or not even true at all. A lot of the time they just have stories just to generate hits. These reporters don't have NHL GM's on speed dial ready to ask them where they think these teams are going for realignment. All they are doing is speculating just like everybody else. I guarentee you even the NHL doesn't know what they're doing yet, so why should we believe the media?
So you don't want the NHL to move Detroit to the East because of, you know, actually important factors, but just because they're located geographiclly sort of in the East? Ok, awesome. Great logic there.
Using an example from many years ago with Toronto isn't relevant to today at all. The NHL and the economy have changed so much that it's not even worth discussing. Detroit is one of the few perennial playoff contenders in the West and the NHL's top market in the Western Conference most likely. You may say balance is good in theory, but it's pretty damn important in reality as well. The NHL doesn't need to be like the NBA where one conference dominates the other. There needs to be a balance pf power, and keeping Detroit in the W.C. helps achieve that.
I'm not any more qualified than them, but I'm allowed to have my opinion and perfectly sound reasons for why Detroit should not move.
I would probably roll with this:
NY Rangers
NY Islanders
New Jersey
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Boston
Toronto
Ottawa
Montreal
Buffalo
Tampa Bay
Carolina
Florida
Washington
Nashville
Detroit
Chicago
St. Louis
Columbus
Dallas
Edmonton
Calgary
Winnipeg
Vancouver
Minnesota
Anaheim
Colorado
San Jose
Los Angeles
Phoenix

You've got a warped opinion of the media. But I won't go any further down that path, as it's futile to try and prove otherwise to you.
Just make sure you remember this is your OPINION. Because the way you come off sounds like you're stating facts. More people seem to disagree with your opinion (or at least don't stomp their foot and say it could NEVER HAPPEN! as you do). There's no way of knowing until next year.
I actually don't even want Detroit in the East. I'm not debating from the heart here. I'd rather they stay in the West and the NHL balances the schedule more so every team plays a home-and-home with all 29 teams. That is how you even the playing field and alleviate a team like Detroit's legitimate issues.

Hell of an effort by the Wild tonight. Top line looked dominant. Setoguchi scored an absolutely filthy one timer clap, check it out on NHL network. How you liking Burns so far, Jensen? I see he's got an assist. You will absolutely love that guy watching him play every game.

He's had a very good game so far. He got robbed by Smith on a cannon from the point. Solid defensively and great puck-moving. I like him a lot so far. Hope Seto keeps it up for you guys.

Who's Burns playing with? Looks like he has 6 minutes less than Boyle. Burns can log huge minutes.

He was mostly playing with Vlasic even strength. McLellan said he doesn't want to reduce Boyle's minutes too much as its still Boyle's defense.

Yes, yes we did. Ilya Kovalchuk is so stupidly underwhelming these days. Terrible showing last night.

I just don't get it. And it pisses me off that his massive contract could be what gets in the way of us not being able to keep our best player in Zach, who looked pretty damn good in his first real action back.
And Marty, while giving up 3 goals, had some pretty nice saves last night. He's still got some left in the tank

The next couple of years are going to be real tough for the Devils if they can't get Parise back.

Don't remind me. He's really the key in all of this. I'm extremely worried about our future once Marty retires.
I don't think the Devils as a franchise really recovered entirely from the lockout/rule changes. It's unfortunate, because for a while there I thought they had the makings of a mini-dynasty.

So the Avs offense sucked after the first and our D was actually what kept the game close, well our D and Varly <3, this is going to be a weird season in Avs land if the D doesn't start imploding soon cause the offense won't be that bad most nights.

I can't type out the word "need" enough to stress how badly we need to re-sign Zach. Him and travis are a nice pair, hoping travis recovers well. Plus there's sex Larsson. So those 3 give me hope and boners. And I still love Elias But Marty's age and the rest of the team is just so...blah.
At least Sykora out there gives me flashbacks to the good ol' days.

I was expecting a bigger contribution and some progression from Volchenkov as well, I was hoping he'd help solidify our defense a bit but he's been lackluster since we signed him.

This is why I don't think Parise is a lock to stay in New Jersey at all. They have issues now, what about when Marty Brodeur retires? Do they have a young successor lined up?

Well he put up good numbers today 1 goal and 2 assists, I think you guys are over reacting a bit this early in the season. I know they started off bad last year, but if I recall correctly the pens lost their first 2 games as well last year. Now if Kovalchuk doesn't get points again for a few more games, then you have a legitimate complaint/concern

I'm just really starting to get seriously into hockey, so I'm not the best to ask on the Devils prospects, but apparently they've been liking some young goalies in their system. I know they liked that kid Frazee but again, I'm not the best person to ask.
But as a fan in general and who knows sports, I do think Parise stays. We've got some solid pieces and he geniunely seems like he wants to stay here. We really aren't that different since that miraculous end of the year run we put on, so if we gel, there is some talent there to scrape our way to an 8 seed or so. I just really think he's going to sign an extension. I know i've really got nothing to back it up, but you all as sports fans know about that "gut feeling" you get about a guy, and I feel Zach's gonna sign, but who knows?
