I just want someone who's not a running back or quarterback to win it. Since 1950 only three people who didn't play those positions won the Heisman (Brown, Howard, Woodson). As long as the award is "the most outstanding QB or RB in college football" the award is a joke.

Luck is the frontrunner, but race is wide open IMO. Three RBs from the SEC could easily win it, (Trent Richardson -just read he has a 475-500# BP!!, Marcus Lattimore, Knile Davis). Three RBs from the ACC, (Montell Harris, David Wilson, Lamar Miller). Pac 12's LaMichael James and Chris Polk are dark horse candidates.
I still think it's Luck's to lose, but whichever teams show up in the NC will likely produce the Heisman winner, and my early bet for that matchup is Alabama and FSU/Oklahoma, (Richardson/Landry Jones/EJ Manuel).
BTW the RB position is DEEP for the 2012 NFL draft.

Im gonna go with Landry Jones. OU should have a very good year and could compete for the NC. He is surrounded by offensive firepower and should put up huge numbers in that system. So,
Big QB prospect+big time school+lots of talent around him+lots of stats+possible NC title=great Heisman chance

How is LaMichael James a darkhorse???????? He was the 3rd place finisher last year. Hes got a much better chance, now that there will be in the spotlight. It's still Luck's spot to lose. The Darkhorse for me is Darron Thomas. If he can master the spread option and be a bit better throwing the ball, and making the decisions (big problem with him in the spread, needs to reed the DE a bit better) then he could end up being really good. Potentially Heisman good.

I said LaMichael James is a Heisman darkhorse because I think he would have to be more statistically dominant than any of the RBs in the ACC and SEC, outperform Luck and Stanford, and Oregon would have to nearly duplicate their season from last year.
It's a huge uphill climb for him IMO.

I think it will be Andrew Luck. A Dark Horse could be Trent Richardson, if Alabama goes Undefeated and he has a Big year he could win it because the Heisman voters like to give it to the best player on the National Championship Team.

im not sure andrew luck will be in the conversation...much like heading into 2010 locker wasnt. Both are/were great pro prospects but not really heisman guys, luck is better and has a better chance than locker being hes on a better team but i think it will be richardson

Luck came in second in the heisman voting last year though. He is in the top 2-3 guys mentioned when people talk preseason heisman candidates this year.

UCF has some semi-tough matchups early in the season (Boston College and at BYU). If they win those, they have an excellent shot at an undefeated season. Southern Miss and Tulsa provide a bit of a challenge, by the Knights are a better team.
Add in solid numbers like 2800 passing yards, 700 rushing yards, and around 30 total touchdowns, jeff Godfrey has a shot. I am in no way predicting he'll win. But he's no darkhorse to at least steal some votes.
