You know, I was just thinking the Browns could use another nose tackle.

he's not a nose tackle, he's a 3 technique who doesn't get sacks/pressures.

He's a pass rushing DT to put next to a NT, i.e. Phil Taylor.

Letting go of Bunk was a mistake. I understand he doesn't fit Washburn's 1 gap attacking style, but every team needs a run stuffer.
And Bunkley was one hell of a run stuffer. A very underrated 4-3 NT. As a pass rusher he isn't worth a ****, but as a run stuffer, the dude is a beast.
Good pick up by the Browns. They now have 2 big run stuffers inside. Now next year they can go after pass rushers on the edges.
Not every system asks for pass rush out of the DTs. With 2 big hulking run stuffers inside, the Browns are shoring up their run defense.

Dick Jauron got it done with Keith Traylor and Ted Washington, and Alfonso Boone Behind them. that's 1000+ pounds in 3 big DTs. Cleveland doesn't have much else in their front 7 right now, but they're set on tackles.

Besides, the contract is very obviously built so that it can be restructured several times if it's that frontloaded.

yeah, the Browns are going for stuffing the run with their beefy DTs and getting their DEs on single blocks to use their speed rush and create pressure. While some people might complain that, "well, who's gonna get QB pressure up front with all those nose tackles?" but in reality, we've been awful against the run every year since we came back in 1999 statistically, so this will be a refreshing change hopefully even if we can't get after the QB quite yet (need more DEs).
They have 3 intriguing young pass rushing DEs in Jabaal Sheard, Marcus Benard (8 sacks last season) and Jayme Mitchell (who management swears is a great pass rusher waiting to happen). I still think they need one more veteran DE, but who knows what they'll do.
apparently rumors that Donte Whitner is being pursued by the Browns. IDK to what extent or if they're true or not, but that would be an extremely popular signing with Browns fans.
