According to Brad Biggs, the Saints have agreed to terms with C Olin Kreutz.

Patriots signed DE Mark Anderson. Why do I get the feeling the Pats will be giving a **** ton of 4-3 looks this year?

That's what it looks like so far in camp, and what happened last year as well. Last year they spent only about 40% of snaps in the 3-4, and 57% or so in the sub package (the rest in the goal line defense.) The sub package was a 4-2-5, so there shouldn't be too big of an adjustment to be made. Mark Anderson will probably be competing with Eric Moore for playing time at defensive end in the sub package. Last year, Tully Banta-Cain mostly saw action as the sub package's right end and on obvious passing downs, which is probably what they're looking at Anderson for.

O well absolutely Zach Miller is a much better player than Kevin Boss thats without question. I just think it is unfair that the drops were brought up because the numbers dont tell the whole story. There are always many factors to consider.

The Patriots have been using 4-2-5 for ages.

I've been saying this all offseason: Your base defense is actually a subpackage now. Your nickel defense is your base defense.

So Haynesworth will get plenty of chances to rush the passer. And they will probably mix their "base" defense in a 50/50 mix, so I'm guessing you'll see this:

4-2-5 50% of the time
4-3 25%
3-4 25%

So Haynesworth should see the field 75% of the time. BB will mix up his alignments to create confusion.

Versatility is the name of the game.

Pretty sure the eagles are going in the same direction (without the 3-4 looks), which makes a lot of sense with their current personnel.

Hmmm, I'm gonna disagree on this one. I think the Eagles are going to be exclusively a 4 man line at all times.

You'll see some over and under fronts, but you won't mix and match nearly as much as NE will.

Juan Castillo (Eagles DC) has said in interviews recently that he plans to run Cover-2 base with lots of nickel packages.

Funny that I say that now, bc when I first heard of Haynesworth to the Pats, I was against it.

Bc truth be told, for all the 4-3 talk with the Pats in the past, they used their 3-4 almost exclusively as their base in the past. They confused offensive lines by moving Wilfork around, that was their way of effecting blocking assignments.

But it sounds like now with Haynesworth they will emphasize the 4 man fronts more. And use more 4 man fronts in their nickel packages. They used the 4-2-5 in the past, but I expect that to be their exclusive nickel alignment now. In the past I'd say they used the 4-2-5 50% of the time when in nickel. Now I think they'll be in 4-2-5 all the time when in nickel.

I think a reason why Boss wasn't a go to guy is because 1 the Giants offense and 2 the Giants have always had 3 or 4 average or above WR's. Boss fits Oakland since he is a good blocker for our power running game, and has a similar game to Miller in terms of speed and size

The Giants don't use the TE. Our offense is not TE friendly.

Boss is a solid underneath guy. He's big, has sure hands, can take hits up the middle, and is a good redzone threat.

Just don't expect him to stretch the seam. The guy runs a 10 second 40 time. He's not a matchup problem, you can cover him with a LB.

We'll miss him, but he got overpaid. Thanks for the memories Bossman. We'll miss ya.

Basically, if he was going to play for cheap money, he wants a title shot with it.

Hes not that great of a blocker. Hes improved vastly since his rookie year when he was horrible at it but its not one of his strengths. There is a reason Bear Pascoe is on this team. But hes a fun player to have and is good for a few spectacular catches a year. Hell be missed

He was probably way off on estimating the type of interest he'd get from other teams, shot down the Bears' (very) generous offer, and then was forced to sign the best deal available once Chicago moved on with Chris Spencer.

Saints - Have fun with Kreutz, I like Drew Brees so I hope Kreutz doesn't get him killed.

Patriots - Have fun with Mark Anderson. His rookie year was a total fluke. He never even came close to that afterwards.

I'm not expecting a lot from Anderson, but he was worth taking a shot on if you ask me. I'd be pleasantly surprised if he could record four sacks as a member of the defensive end rotation.

Chargers have signed Malcom Floyd to a 2 year deal.

And the Kreutz deal - he can reach up to $4 mil in salary if he meets incentives.

We'll trade you Clint Sintim for a 4th round pick.

At this point, he's just rotting away on our team and he was never a fit for a 4-3 defense.

You guys will use him better than we did.
