He'd be some solid insurance, with Newman on the shelf. Jenkins/Scandrick on the outside with Hanson inside. This could be disastrous or really awesome, depending upon how Jenkins/Scandrick respond this year.
I'd be perfectly fine with it being..."good enough".

He actually was very solid in preseason and I thought he might make the team as a returner, I could see him being a decent player with another team.
|
He is always good in the preseason. So that is not anything new really. However he was god awful as a returner for the Giants.

Bears cut TE Desmond Clark. Got beat out by undrafted Kyle Adams from Purdue.

Lito Sheppard and Walter McFadden are cut. McFadden had a horrible preseason

Cliff Matthews should have never been a 7th rounder. He had a great camp, nice to see him make it.
It will be interesting to see if Gurley gets claimed or not.

Does that mean Joe Porter makes the team? I was a big fan of him when he was at Rutgers.

Everything about Matthews has been postive and with Davis and Jamal Anderson gone from last year he has a chance to see some playing time.

As of right now I'd say yea, depending on if we go after a CB in F/A or not. If we do either him or Jeremy Ware will be on the chopping block

For anyone who desperately needs a center, Mike McGlynn played all last year there for us and played pretty well. Didn't really fit Howard Mudd's scheme but I hope he gets a shot somewhere else.

Because Merriweather's "I'll do what I want" style of play doesn't match well with Belichick's "Do your job" mantra

According to Greg Bedard, Brandon Tate and Brandon Meriweather haven't been cut yet, and the team is shopping them. They will reportedly be released if no deal can be reached. Darius Butler is also on the block.

He was actually a solid citizen. The shooting thing was pure bull by the sounds of things and wreaked of lawyers looking to find a way to get money. He's stupid. Like...flat out dumb even....but he's not a bad guy.
He's just not a very good safety. Easily the worst Pro Bowl season I've ever seen last year.

Not a good safety for the Pats. Put him somewhere like Dallas and he could become a stud again. If some team gives him the flexibility to freelance in the back end and get a good rush going up front he could actually...ya know...justify a pro bowl nod

I'd love him in Dallas...but we seem set with Elam/Sensabaugh. He's welcome to come if he wants to take a redshirt year. :)

Eh. I'm not sold on that idea completely. Don't get me wrong; he helped us win games. But he also lost us some games. It depends on how you value that sort of guy. Personally, I'll take the guy who is less of an impact player and consistently does what he should over a guy who is a coin flip.
He can still be a good player for someone in the right situation, but he's always going to be a bit of a very large liability on any given play as well.

Elam is a serviceable starter with system experience, but you'd have to be crazy if you think he could hold off Meriweather there. Brandon didn't fit in new England, but he's still supremely talented.

Yeah me too for sure that's why I'm a little surprised they cut Sanders, but ovbiously his contract was too hard to swallow for a guy who's not a guaranteed starter

He's a very weird player. The thing I liked the best about him during his tenure here is the sheer number of things he could do. He could intercept passes, deliver a big hit to put the fear of god into a guy and dislodge the ball, he was very good in run support....but he just couldn't wrap his head around the fact that he can't give up on his assignment no matter how many times he was told. Worse yet; when he was doing the right thing he wasn't as good. Let up a lot of completions when he played zone.
