Third, teams can spend money now that is spread over future salary caps. For example, the $30 million signing bonus paid to Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson on a six-year deal results in $5 million being allocated to each of the next six seasons.

does this explain any of the reasoning behind carolina's moves? i honestly don't know

D hasn't played a full season since 2008. While I admit that's tough to do as a RB, once that first injury pops in place, especially a foot injury at the age of 28, you can call him injury prone.
Prone = liable to suffer from something.
He's certainly more liable than the average back.

No, they were ridiculously far below the salary floor that they needed to spend to get up to it. So, they overpaid their own free agents to get there. They'll stop once they hit it.

Extremely disappointed to see Sidney Rice go. I have no idea what the Vikings plan on doing at wide receiver. Percy Harvin is talented, but by no means #1 material. And after him it just gets flat-out disgusting.

Your best shots to turn it around are Malcolm Floyd / Braylon Edwards.

No, that's nothing new, it's called bonus amortization, it's been around forever, and it's the reason why the concept of dead money exists.

yea, rice is a great talent, but i think he needs a good qb for the talent to come to fruition. this signing could be a bust with seattle's murky qb situation

Rice was a dumbass to go to Seattle. He would have been soooo much better off here with McNabb at QB. Chasing the Benjamins

It's been completely unbearable the last few days, and really makes no sense that this is the best they can do. I usually overlook bad analyst but it's enough to make you sick.

I refuse to call someone who just locked up 18,500,000 dollars in his bank account a dumbass. Will his stats and legacy suffer? Probably. Should he have been more loyal to the team who drafted him? Possibly.
Dumbass? No.
Also, he knows he can win the division going 6-10.

I don't know why we should look at his total years in the league. He came in at 20 years old, there was expected to be a learning curve, as well as 1 season he was primarily hurt. It is Free Agency after all. The Cap floor, as well as supply and demand, means these guys are going to get paid more then their worth majority of the time. Never going to change.
That said, I don't think the contract is bad at all, he's really young with a bunch of potential. He also looked pretty solid with T-Jack at QB. He didn't go nuts but he was still getting into the end zone. Jackson is only going to be the QB for a season anyway.

All great points. Plus, it's not like the Vikes are a SB team, so why wouldn't he take the money? I would love to know what Minnesota offered, but it wasn't like he left the Saints or a trip to the SB on the table.

I thought Sidney would leave but the way it happened is just confusing. I honestly thought he would get a little more, and he went to a team with a disaster of a QB situation. Honestly a pretty bad move for the Seahawks to be honest until they find themselves a quarterback. Kind of a waste.
I'm curious as to what we offered him. I would have thought it would have taken a big difference in the offers for him to leave to Seattle but I really don't think we offered something WAY below that.

LMAO!! Breaking that down, this is his average season: 12 games, 36 rec, 532 yards, 4.5 TDs
And the 1 great year he had, his QB was some dude named Brett Favre
